Next issue we move to our new Web Only view and will likely have a new web based layout for the magazine that will automatically generate based on the articles available. I have been prototyping some concepts using CSS Regions, Multi-Column Layouts and Flexbox. These are all very new tech and some browsers don't support them all yet. But I've always liked the cutting edge and have looked for a reason to create the next gen magazine experience so for the next few months I plan to reinvent Gaiscioch Magazine and how it works. Our next issue will be entirely distributed over time as the articles become available and automatically become part of the digital magazine that will be found on our site. We are targeting 1 Cover Story, 2 Feature Stories, Several Chapter Stories (Guides, Fiction, Interviews, Etc), 2-4 Previews, 2-4 Reviews, and 2-5 Life/Inspiration articles for each issue.
Each issue will launch with it's cover story and then release new content each week for 3 months before the next issue is released. When it's done it should be pretty sweet. The downside is that it won't be printable like our first 15 magazines. At least not until I find an InDesign wizard who wants to helm the project of taking the articles after each issue is wrapped and format them into a printable magazine. I simply don't have the time or desire to spend 40+ hours each issue creating the magazine for a handful of people to view/print. Our Articles get read MUCH more than the magazine itself. Each article on the site gets read more times than the entire magazine in it's "Issuu" form. This is the primary reason we decided to go this new direction.
Ads on Gaiscioch Magazine
So in the new design we will begin offering ad space to various Game Developers and Partners complimentary for their support of our magazine. These ads will only show on the articles for their game and allow us to give thanks for their support. These are not Paid ads and we still seek no revenue from our magazine. These are simply ways of saying thanks to the developers who give a small time publication like us time out of their day. I will make sure that they are labeled as Ads so that your ad blockers can block them if you so choose.
