Changing how we keep in touch

Many of you have received a note from me in the past asking you to check in to keep your spot in the guild roster. Since its creation it has helped keep people checking in, but it also has created some unexpected reactions. Some people were taking it as a if you don't do this we're kicking you out. That simply isn't the case. They aren't in trouble of being removed from Gaiscioch just that they might get rotated out if they remained afk too long. They could easily get invited again at any time. This led to many members "Re-Applying" to join the community which they didn't need to do. Once a Gaiscioch always a Gaiscioch.

So I threw the old system away, tossed it in the trash. This isn't the message I wanted to come across and isn't the reaction I wanted it to cause. I took to the drawing board and came up with a new afk notice that is more personal and shapes around each individual person. It asks important questions like "How are you doing?" and "What can I help you with?" For those that don't know, I am a very compassionate and caring person. Gaiscioch began as a way I could help people. I want to help people. That's my end game. If there are challenges in life you need help with, come to me and i'll use my brain to try to help. I don't care if we've never spoken before, if you walk through our door and choose to be here you're family to me.

The new letter additionally will go out after 60 days of being away from the website and provide you 1 click options to join chapters, social adventures, and mark that you are interested in upcoming games. For users who are not playing any chapter with us it will provide them a quick look at our chapters including how many events have been run this past month and how many scheduled events we have each week. For users that are in a chapter, it provides them with an overview of their progress and what they need to do to get to their next level, as well as, giving them an idea how to earn each type of points.

Additionally, I have created a second letter than goes out 1 year after a member stopped logging in to try to reconnect with them and encourage them to let us know how they’re doing. Over the years it's made me realize how fragile life is and I really want to be a part of all of your lives. I don't want to just be some guild leader who keeps to himself and leaves the community stuff to their underlings. I want to be that person you know you can count on if you need a friend.

The bottom line is that I want to make the notice more about checking in with someone to see how their doing. More about them, less about us. An invitation not a demand. I feel the new letter gets this point across and so far based on the replies to it, it's being accepted well.

The next step is to build one for people who have been away more than a year to keep in touch and learn what they've been up to. We never know what we might discover by sharing stories with each other.
