PVE Events in GW2

Hi All

For those of you planning to take part in PVE in Guild Wars 2, I would like to explain the events we will be running once the game goes live.

Each week, there will be a public pve event zone clear which Fog and I will be running alternately. He will announce the details closer to the time, but I can assure you it will be on a grand scale.  This event will allow zone completion and aim at triggering as many events as possible along the way.  This will benefit pve-ers, achievement hunters, explorers and crafters and anyone else keen to get involved in an organised activity with Gaiscioch.  Watch this space for further details!

Dungeons are a big part of the game for PVE-ers, and Guild Wars 2 has 8 dungeons playable on story mode, with 3 extra explorable modes that are much much harder, and have extra content in the form of different bosses and a separate story quest for each. I will be publishing the first guide to Ascalonian Catacombs during week one of release.  This is a level 30 instance and is a lot of fun.

Meta Events are an exciting part of GW2 because the truly dynamic nature of the questing system morphs depending on how many people are in a zone.  With enough players completing events, we are able to trigger new events, and in the higher zones these lead to meta events.  A meta event will require a raid sized team to accomplish, and we will be focusing on these as we progress.

The most prudent advice I can give you to ensure fun adventures in Guild Wars 2, is to group up whenever and wherever you can. This will allow you to enjoy the game, build friendships and take on the harder zone and instance events.  No more worrying about whether the tank is on, or who is going to heal tonight....in this game there is no trinity, and no need to worry about class composition.  Fill your group of 5 as often as you can for maximum enjoyment and benefit to those participating.  Often, zone events triggering can make a sunny stroll through lowbie-ville turn into a life or death battle against mobs suddenly super powered by an influx of players.  Being in a group will help mitigate the carnage and ehance survivability.

Guild Wars 2 lifts many of the restrictions imposed on PVE by other MMOs, the most important being the absence of instanced raids.  No more worrying about the fact that you cannot make the raid that night, or you may be left out by the raid leader because your goldfish was on fire the week before and you had to leave early! The game introduces many ways in which to attain end game gear, whether it be from WvW, PVP, Crafting or Dungeons.  People who were perhaps constrained in the past by not raiding, now have the an open door to kick ass gear acquisition.

I look forward to Guild Wars 2 PVE with you all.  Further announcements as to dates and times will be made closer to release......are we there yet????

Hexxy

The dynamic events alone are awesome. My main thing for groups and people out doing them is to wait and see what happens when one is done. If you run off your bound to miss some great moments and possible continuation you didn't see coming. Really can't wait to be out playing with you all.

Quick question: WvW events benefit the PVE community with buffs and extra boosts, I wonder how many of us will participate in WvW so that we may help out our PVE world. WvW is also very interesting :D Jepps

The interconnected nature of the game is what appeals to many of us, so WvW will certainly enhance your pve experience, and vice versa.

I'm sure many of us, especially those who joined Gaiscioch as far back as DAoC or (like me) WAR, will largely focus on WvW... with PvE being something we do to fill gaps, if at all. I expect we'll have plenty of people whose primary focus is one or the other of sPvP, PvE or WvW--and plenty more who like to mix and match to varying degrees. In a guild this large, it's generally not hard to find a group of guild mates who are interested in doing whatever it is you feel like doing, if you just ask. And I imagine we'll have more or less constant WvW buffs in PvE. ;-)

In beta, following a meta-event thru to a big boss fight (and getting a treasure chest) was a lot of fun. I watched a video of an underwater dungeon run with a lot of puzzles in it that looked like a great challenge. I found I got levels faster in WvW, but more consistently in PvE, and PvE worked out better for crafting. Looking forward to it (understatement)

Rather than approach this by making blanket statements about who will do what, or whether wvw will attract more people, we are approaching this in terms of the positive, that being whether guildies wish to join in for pve events :) The houses of WvW, Crafting, PVE, and Role Playing compliment rather than exclude each other. To allow people to play how they want, we cater to all play styles when we run events. For example, in PVE-centric Rift we ran WvW events even though the game was not centred around that style of play. Although PVE is not the primary driver behind GW2, it is a huge part of the game, especially as end game legendaries can be acquired in many different ways. Therefore we are giving 'options' to all our player base. I am loving the fact that endgame gear can be acquired in several different ways, it makes it more exciting! If we have interest, events will run based on the level of that interest. For now, I would like to aim for 2 PVE per week. When you add that to 4 WvW, 1 Oceanic WvW, 2 Crafting and an RP event, that makes for a packed guild calendar! Remember, these are only the official events, let alone all the ad hoc WvW and dungeon groups.... We are spoilt for choice! .....are we there yet???

I am SO there, Hexx! That's my problem this go around... I wanna do it all. Stomp along the borderlands or stomp bad guys back on the home server in these sorts of events.. I am so glad the aim is to complement various playstyles. My aim is to get as many of you sick of seeing my bobbleheaded toon chasing behind you as I can! ;-P Sounds like fun, can't wait!

To craft legendaries at endgame, you will need 200 skill points (the chevron symbols found in each zone), as well as two crafts at 400. This is of course not the only way to get them, but will make zone exploration and clears really handy even when you have maxed out the normal/elite skills you wish to make use of as abilities on your toon. The pve clears will allow you to acquire crafting mats, skill points, xp and achievements all in one go. You can also get weapon and armour skins by collecting dungeon tokens at levels 30,40,50,60,70, and 80. The sets are different, so it gives you a range of options, and that is without even looking at the racial pvp sets! Yay for a wide choice and everyone not looking the same in their *insert wow tier set number* gear :P (I am seriously waiting for the Gucci set at this rate, "Sylvari" by Prada, sweetie!)

Heehee Freddie, welcome! Yes, it is exciting partly because it is a chance to be in on something from day 1, or very close to day 1. I have always tended to be the one that came in a year into a game, where everyone in running about maxed leveled and sort of bored about things. It has been fun just listening in on vent during the beta's and stress tests to all the "Ooooos" and "Ahhhhs" and "Gosh, this is neat" as we see something new. To be able to discover cool things for ourselves. I am trying to be careful what I read/watch about GW2 even. I don't want to spoil too much of the Wow-factor (Wow as in "Ohmigosh" not Wow, the game =) I love exploring every nook and cranny of a zone and that is what I plan to do in PvE. I don't want to rush through then come back levels later to look around. I am going to take my time and enjoy this right (for me) the first time. =) I also plan on doing some of it all since I am interested in all of the aspects of GW2 so far. Is it Friday yet?

Don;t worry about speed of levelling at all. We do not plan to start the pve events until the second week of the game anyway, to give people a chance to get a feel for the game. This is our home for a while, so there is no need to rush anything!

I really don't think I am one of the "unusual" ones - I greatly enjoy both PvE and PvP and GW2 has just increased the enjoyment - as well as running with the family in WvWvW. It is actually the family that makes PvP so enjoyable for me and it is the dynamic events in GW2 that makes PvE such a great time. There are a few events that after I do them a few times are - hohum, but there are so many others that I have never tired of during all the beta events and the stress tests. I find myself hanging around waiting for them to occur. My question, which arose from the survey - "How did the event change the world?", was also answered a while back when I discovered a fort taken over by the centaurs since there was no one around to defend it and a group of us actually had to take it back to progress. A-net did a great job on the PvE aspect of this game and I look forward to exploring all parts of the world. And... now that Hex mentions crafting Legendary items and the need for certain skill levels to accomplish this... I have to say, for the first time since EQ I might actually be interested in crafting. I need challenges - no challenge = no fun. It seems that GW2 just might challenge me on all aspects of the game: PvP, PvE, and crafting which is very unusual. I am terribly excited about tonight and all that it might lead to.... Safe journ all.

Sounds pretty fun! I have run this type events with the guild in RIFT, GW2 have one up RIFT in that you scale to the level of the zone. So in RIFT low level zones its a bit boring for the higher levels, that won't be a problem with GW2 I guess.
