I guess I just need some clarification on this. On sunday I got in to raid call a little late due to being on the phone at the start of the event. Once I got in and got oriented while we were running supply and whatnot, I asked what our plan of action was. I think my wording was along the lines of 'Do we plan on hitting (west keep, forgot the name) when  we have enough supply/siege?'

Something in that general gist. The raid leader jumped down my throat for asking which really caught me off guard. (She later apologised on raidcall which was appreciated) This kind of soured the event for me, because that and the follow-up quips from other folks were just embarassing. I normally try to be fairly vocal with enemy movement that I spot that may pertain to whatever our current plan may be. However, I felt like if I did anything but just follow direction given that I would land myself in hot water again.

I guess I just need to know how much I am supposed to participate in these kinds of things. Do I just listen and follow direction and keep any input/questions to myself for after the raid? I am still very new here so I am still learning how things are done, and I guess this sunday just threw me off. I do not have any problem with the raid leader or anyone else, I really hope this is not taken as an attack on anyone, I guess I am just trying to figure out how I am supposed to conduct myself at these things.

I believe what happened here is there is a general lack of patience for arguing with the commander. While this may not have been your intent, it was probably taken as such. Input such as troop movements etc. are useful, but planning *during* an event is not as useful because it causes confusion and division. A commander of an event is just that; they are leading us with one voice so we can act effectively and decisively. With the battlefield conditions changing so dynamically, a set-in-stone plan is not always the best option. Commanders generally have a plan of action that they adjust as battlefield conditions demand it. I am sorry you had a bad experience, but it sounds like a misunderstanding.

I think it was just a bit of bad timing. I know this was Prissy's first scheduled run, she doesn't have a commander book, and was dealing with quite a few people constantly telling her to do something or questioning her authority. She most likely got fed up with it and you got the brunt of the blow. I really want people to understand. If there is a family event posted on the calendar and you decide to join, you are not signing up to boss people around or second guess the leader. Your signing up to follow. If you are not content doing what they ask of you join a different raidcall channel and form up your own group. Don't try to hijack someone elses event. It's poor taste and doesn't give our newer leaders a chance to learn and grow into the leading role. Be thankful they are trying to stand up and lead. It's only by supporting them that they can grow into the role and we can all rejoice in some fun times on the battlefield. Monday morning quarterbacks are a dime a dozen and they don't help unify a force. They drive a wedge and undermine the leaders ability to lead. It's highly insulting at times. So please let the leaders lead, and if you don't like how their leading then form up a group of your own. Don't try to undermine them and make them feel as if their not doing a good job. We need to encourage people who want to lead. Not discourage them.

Hey Prissy - thanks for leading last night, was a good time (and I got almost enough Karma from it to finish the last piece of armor I need) ! One of the things that is really tough is that not everyone (not related to this poster, just in general) "gets" the whole Raidcall voice comm thing. A lot of times when an event leader is running things, there might be another 2 to 4 people feeding up information in voice (often without being as precise at they need to be "OMG invaders here" is not the same as "5 to 10 hitting Redvale"), and then several other folks who are just kinda... chatty. I'm sure to them it feels like they are just part of small chat channel with plently of bandwidth for comments - but in reality (like last night) there are 50+ people in that channel listening. Sometimes they are new and it is great they are getting walked through - but other times, they are just folks that either aren't "getting" it - or just like being chatty. :) TLDR: Appreciate your time - keep it up. :)

I think Prissy did a great job last night for her first WvW command. I do think there was far to much chatter in raidcall though which isn't anyone in particular but it can add to the strain of leading. What many people don't understand is that the people in these events are not all elite WvW players, we do have a small core of very active WvWers but the majority of us are casual fun loving players that just want to WvW together for the sake of doing things together. That being said, if you have questions during an event it I would suggest asking in the squad chat and one of our officers that aren't leading the event can address the question. What I would love to see, is for players attending these events to prepare ahead of time so as not to put additional strain on the event leaders. How to help your event leader: - Start your own groups before the event begins, don't show up late asking for invites when we are already underway. - Use guild chat or squad chat (if you are in a squad) to ask questions, keep questions and requests out of raid-call. - Follow the leaders direction without question, we are human and do make mistakes but we must remain united in defeat as well as victory. - If you don't wish to follow the leader, take the initiative and schedule your own event. I would like to encourage more people to do this to take some of the strain off of the elders. We need to encourage event etiquette while still maintaining a fun environment. Leading these events is not an easy task and can be quite stressful when each harmless question is compounded by twenty more.
