Tonights Borderland

I thought I had read tonight's event and it listed our borderland. Now it reads a different borderland. Am I insane or possibly illiterate? Or did it change?

i don't know for sure but it may have changed. At 3pm server time Rall Borederlands were controlled entirely by our server except one tiny tower :)).

Fog changed it a bit before the event. A few were confused but got it sorted when they came on Raid Call :)

Bummer. Unfortunately for me I've experienced long queues trying to get into WvW and by the time I get into the borderlands for a scheduled event everyone is done for the night. So tonight I came on 1 1/2 hours early. I didn't see an event channel in Raidcall so I went into the Blue borderlands channel while I waited. I was thrilled when about 10 till 6 p.m. pst I got into SoR borderlands. This was it! I was finally going to get to WvW with the guild. Found a person that sells plans for seige equipment I've never seen but heard people talk about in Raidcall while I waited during previous attempts. Bought a few. Can't express how excited I was. Now the Raidcall channel I was in had gone quiet since the few people chatting earlier had switched to a different borderlands to do an event. So I figured that maybe I was in the wrong channel. I look and see the event channel but it says SF on it and is just full of people. Oh so many people. I join and clearly I'm in the wrong borderlands. And I know that there is not enough time for me to wait in the queue again and join the event. Not a great evening for me.

I am sorry this happened to you. Fog was saying in guild chat that we where going to be in SF and what RB channel to join. This kind of thing does not happen often but you always want to be watching guild chat and see what people are up too. You did good by getting on that early and it would have been a good idea to play in SoR just to get a feel of what WvW is all about.

I can understand how frustrating it can be, but just a quick tip, for future reference go to the Community Events channel in RaidCall (the name of the channel usually indicates the location of the event, like tonight's was SF *Sorrow's Furnace*) since WvW and Conquest are usually Community events where Fog, Spartan and other leaders invite folks on the map to join us. I hope to see you at a future event.

Sorry Suryl - You did the right thing in logging in early - it just didn't work this time. Hang in there. I was in the chaos of "putting kids to bed" etc, so I wasn't able to log in until after the event started. I queue'd up, and waited in line for about an hour before I was able to join everyone... Hopefully you will slip right on into the next event.

The original plan was to go to Sanctum of Rall however that map was almost entirely ours at the time of our event. Sorrows Furnace however was almost all red. We decided to attack Sorrows Furnace instead as it provided us the most kill for the buck. WvW is not PvE. When you step on the battle field it changes every time. There is no way I can predict what SOR Borderlands will look like a week in advance. SF had NO QUEUE at all for most of us when we entered 30 minutes early. I suspect our family is what caused the queue to appear there. For our WvW Events show up early and be ready to go when I say go. Join the Community Events channel as I will let everyone know where to go there.

When I logged in the queue times were already impossible, so I've lead a small parallel WvWvW event at SoR Borderlands with some members that were unable to join SF Borderlands. We had fun defending the Garrison against great odds. I guess I might have announced it some more times at the Guild channel. Leading and learning...

Yes can be very frustrating, however, I was there right at the start and crashed almost immediately, then had to join the Q again. However, the event is long and it is worth staying in the Q, I got to attend most of the event.

Morsfio, yep should have looked at Guild chat. I usually don't read the chat messages as it just never occurs to me. I've tried playing previously when I got into WvW after the event ended and didn't enjoy it. I'm the type of directionally challenged person who when told to go east is then told "other east." So playing with a group while I learn the maps is important to me. Some might say necessary. Bishok, I didn't see a channel listing SF as the location when I first logged onto Raidcall. There may have been a community event channel. I first went into a different channel than the Blue Borderlands (don't remember channel name) but the people were doing a dungeon so I switched to BB. I honestly wasn't concerned I was in the wrong Raidcall channel knowing I could switch that once through the queue. But while waiting in the queue I wasn't about to minimize the game to check Raidcall channels and possibly miss my chance. Stoat, thanks. And I'll cross my fingers on it. Maybe toes and eyes as well. Foghladha, since the location isn't set is it possible to not list a location? Had there been none listed I would have been more aggressive in asking for a location. For someone like me who is new there is no way to intuitively know that the location is subject to change. Of course I know now, but I'm trying to think of the next new person. Lothien, good job! Raighan, I haven't had a time when my queue wasn't longer than or about as long as the event. Tried Spartan's event earlier this week, got in and found way out of starting spot (followed someone didn't actually figure out way as I am world's worst map reader) just to hear people saying goodnight as event ended. Then silence. Since there is no way to know the length of queue and I'd already waited an hour and half in the wrong queue didn't feel like another hour and a half to two hours just to not get to play. Again.

From. 5:30 - 6:00 I continuously spammed my macro in all 3 guild chats to the extent the game started blocking them. I updated the website as soon as it was brought to my attention, and I set the RaidCall community events channel to sr borderlands. This is the channel ALL community events are run in. Aside from sending everyone in the guild an email or calling you all on the phone there's not much more I could have done. You need to be proactive and meet me half way. I can't predict the weather, bring a rain coat just in case and check the weather before ya step out the door.

I have to disagree. Obviously not with the fact that you did a lot to get people to the right place. Clearly you did. I never thought you didn't. Nor did I post anything like that. But I strongly disagree that I wasn't being proactive. Sure, I wasn't successfully proactive and maybe that is an essential part. But I was clearly working on dealing with what had previously been my problem in getting into guild WvW events - a long queue. The only blame I mentioned was in my previous reply when I said I should have read Guild chat. You have no idea how much I wish I had read Guild chat. Oh so very much. While I was in the wrong Raidcall chat it wasn't completely unreasonable decision I made. And I actually suspected it was the wrong channel as event time got closer and channel didn't fill up. Problem was I couldn't minimize my game to switch channels as I didn't want to risk missing the Travel button. I have previously done that and am really trying to only make new mistakes instead of repeating old ones. Oddly enough it was after I was in SoR borderlands and I went to switch to the proper Raidcall channel that I saw the "SF" in the title. Went to website and saw "SF" in event. Went into Raidcall channel and heard people asking which borderlands and being told Sorrow's Furnace. Banged head on desk. So what I think is that someone can make a bunch of decisions to the best of their ability based on the information they have and still get a craptastic result.

@ Lothien Thanks for the parallel event. I think it would be awesome if we could get some big groups in each of the borderlands at the same time and just leave the other servers trying to figure out what to do. =D

Ok First off everyone get off Fogs back about the change of zones last night. It was my suggestions to post what zone we were going to be in advance so that everyone would know what zone to que for. There was no way I could know that the zone would be ours. Second I stop in the community channel to make sure we were still going to the same place and it had changed. So I qued for the other zone. I have asked fog not to post the zone again since people get upset if the zone is changed. Now it is your responsibity to find out where we are going. It was an idea and did not work. So be mad at me not Fog. Prissy - Lisa

I think the change of zones was understandable and reasonable. Stuff sometimes happens that is unforeseen (like owning 95% of Rall Borderlands). Maybe the Thursday event should be like Monday's event where no location is listed in the description and it moves around all the time depending on where we are needed. That works better I think. The queue times seem better too since every PUG on the server doesn't know where we are gonna be in advance.

Considering the queue times that are aggravated by the PUGs knowing in advance where our zerg will be, I think it is good to vary this. Also a target rich BG is much more fun than a map that we already control.

Ok, Easy solution for everyone. ON COMMUNITY EVENT NIGHTS. BE IN THE COMMUNITY EVENTS CHANNEL. Problem solved. This channel will ALWAYS be used during our community events. We will do our best to change the name to reflect what zone/event is taking place but characters are limited so we can't spell it out sometimes. Just be proactive and join the right channel. You don't need to ask what channel we're in. We are in the Community Events channel. Period. That is the Default answer and will always be the answer. If you were in the Community Events channel what zone we are in would not be in question at all. we stated it a bazillion times and are always willing to say state it again. Don't hesitate to ask we're happy to help you out. Sun GW2: Offpeak WvW | Monday GW2: WvW | Tues RIFT: Conquest | Wed GW2: PvE | Thu GW2: WvW | Fri: GW2: 101 | Sat: GW2: Crafting Faire/Zerg ALL will be in the Community Events Channel.
