Greetings Everyone,

This post is the foundation of the first fall livestream i'll be hosting this fall on September 6th for people who would like to lead as representatives for the family. If you've been in other guilds your likely under the impression that only "Certain" people can lead activities using the family name. Perhaps in your past guild only the leaders lead events. In our family this is vastly different.

Anyone with the Lorgair rank can lead activities.

That's right, after just 7 days active in the family and 1,000 family honor points earned you can begin scheduling and leading events within the family. You can watch the tutorial about Leading in the Gaiscioch Family which was recorded last fall. It gives you an overview of how to list an event, how to claim leadership on an event and the basics around leading in the family.

Key Points to Remember:

  • Gaiscioch Grows By Action, Not Words. Be Inclusive not Exclusive
Be sure to make your events inclusive to the community and invite random strangers to join your team. We do not recruit with words, we recruit with actions. We show them what we're capable of, invite them to have a taste of life within the family and if they decide we're the right place for them they will approach us and ask to join. This is how we grow. Closing off your events to guild only prevents us from growing and hinders our success in a game.

  • When you lead, you are the face and voice of Gaiscioch
Every action you take is a direct reflection of our family. Be sure to never act out of frustration or anger. You need to be the constant light in the room. Blame should never be placed on anyone but yourself publicly. Sure we know that it wasn't your fault, but pointing fingers only divides people.  It does not unite them. If you blame yourself and say "My Bad" a lot of times the team will back you up and say it couldn't be helped. This negates the negativity and keeps people following your leadership. Good leaders admit their failures and learn from them. Remember. Perception is everything. You actions will shape people's perception of us. Make sure they are kind, welcoming, and respectful.

Leading on a grand scale, the Community Event

Community event's are our lifeblood. They are how we grow our numbers and introduce ourselves to the community. It is important that before members take on a massive public community event that they touch base with me (Foghladha) and also build a support team who will help them keep the group organized and moving forward. Additionally I ask that you at least earn the "na Cu" suffix (Warlord Rank 3) showing that you've lead small groups before trying to tackle larger ones. In the near future there will also be a Gaiscioch Family Commander tag for all games including ESO that can be earned by achieving warlord rank 3, and family commander training which will likely be part video and part quiz.  It is essential that we protect our reputation and ensure that every family commander holds our name in the proper light.

That said, I encourage anyone that wants to lead public community events to please do so. Come talk to me and we will get you setup. Again the key is your support team. Don't try to run a public community event alone. Bring friends. It will make them run a lot smoother and they can help you keep calm in stressful situations.

Key Points for Community Events:

  • Must have structure
These are not quick thrown together events with no forethought. These are planned surgical events with a calendar, a set goal, and a game plan. The more organized and routine they are the better.

  • Build with Numbers in Mind
During these events don't target low end boss kills, or solo objectives. Plan out your events as if 100 people will show up. You don't want to spend all day standing around waiting for a mob to spawn so everyone can get credit. Go after things that are there for everyone and major boss events. Try to do the things they can't do solo. What area's gave you the most trouble as you were leveling up?

  • Be Consistent and On Time. Have a Schedule.
Gaiscioch Community Events need to happen like clockwork on predefined schedules. Consistency builds success. At the end of each of your events you should thank them for coming and promote your next event so that people can plan to be there. This shows them our commitment to community.

For those that choose to lead events I have made some preset macro templates for you for recruiting participants in zone chat.

Please Remember

  • Gaiscioch is an Inclusive Community
The only way we grow is by including people in what we do.

  • Please stick to our credos and guidelines to ensure player satisfaction and consistency.
We want people to know what to expect when they come to a Gaiscioch event.

  • NEVER talk bad about "PuGs"
If you lead in this family you must realize that Gaiscioch is built from the ground up on public groups. We are the worlds largest pug. Insulting pubic groups is insulting our lifeblood. It should never be done by anyone who leads for our family.

  • NEVER pass blame.
Even if you did nothing wrong keep the blame on you. It will save us all heartache and prevent implosion and hurt feelings.

  • DON'T Feed the Trolls.
Please know, if you run inclusive events, there will be trolls. It's inevitable. Just ignore them and go on about your business. They will get bored and leave as long as you don't engage them. They will do everything in their power to make you seem out of control, irresponsible, and worst of all question your leadership. Let your actions speak for you.

  • Most Importantly: You Are The Voice and Face of Gaiscioch.
You actions will directly impact our families success and reputation. Make sure that your actions are becoming of a Gaiscioch and place us in the correct light. Protect our reputation at all costs.

If you have questions feel free to post them. I will embed the Leading Community Events tutorial in this post once it has been recorded.

hah I didn't realize you'd posted this, when I was talking about this earlier during WvW last night.

This is ...yea, exactly what I was talking about "When you lead, you are the face and voice of Gaiscioch" when some folks were wondering why Fog always attracts a large crowd, while they struggle to get anyone to come to their events.

Ben knows how to sell his brand and he is experienced at it.  If you notice, when he goes out, he's not just recognized as a player, but as the face of Gaiscioch.  When other players see the Foghladha name on the commander icon, they instantly recognize that Foghladha = Gaiscioch and that there's a guild group + friends with him, that will be getting the job done.  He'll also make GSCH's presence known in text chat, on Teamspeak and word spreads across the maps to the other commanders that GSCH is out on the field.

Text chat... don't restrict yourselves to voice chat, you must make yourself known via text chat.  Text chat is the best tool we have, never ever ignore it or undervalue it, too many commanders make the mistake of relying on voice chat only and ignore text chat (or refuse to use it).  Its the best way to make your GSCH affiliation known, especially that you're leading a GSCH event.

I hope this helps some commanders, there's more, but I'm tired and drawing a blank at the moment on any other advice, but in a nutshell, you need to embrace the Gaiscioch branding and sell yourself as a GSCH commander.  That's what you are, so own it.  :)

Does this mean events can now be claimed with fewer than 4 members? Say with a minimum of 3 for 4-man content or 9 for 12 man content?

now I've been sending shout out when I lead my ava event, haven't directed them to RC yet, haven't had the need really, very few usually join....

this is what I put in normally " GSCH is running a squad out tonight, currently attacking/defending ......... type GSCH in zone if you are looking for a group and have some fun

does this work.... there are always few variants of this simply because I always wrote them in every week.  but its pretty much how it goes

Commander tag for eso, are they adding that to the game or will that only be for our purposes ?

For ESO, the crown symbol for "squad leader" is the best that we're going to get.  IIRC, Zenimax is dead set against giving us a GW2 style commander tag, the crown symbol was the compromise with the players.
