Hello All-

I am a fairly new family member (Gaiscioch) and really appreciating the community/family. Most of my interactions with family members have been a delight, helpful, 'adult', with a great sense of camaraderie and family.

I purchased GW2 after playing GW1. My credo has been 'don't pay monthly fees'. I am a long, long time gamer with comparatively little experience with MMO's (save GW1, Forsaken World, and a couple of brief affairs with Korean MMO's, and the standard issue WoW trials).

But my experience with the family in GW2 has me rethinking Rift. Of course, I intend on playing GW2 for a long time. But I know there are many of you 'double dippers' who play on getting back to Rift.

I asked in Raidcall about Rift tonight - a few long time family members said the game still had legs, new expansion coming out, and was well worth getting.

So, I turn to the Rift faithful - I am appreciating GW2 a great deal and Gaiscioch - should I buy Rift? I see it is only $10 on Steam at present - and I guess I can take a flyer for a month - but appreciate comments from the vets.

Thank you.

I played Gw1 extensively until I joined the family in Rift. Rift is an amazing game. I just have devoted myself to GW2. If you are thinking about giving it a try I would say definitely go for it. In some aspects I believe Rift is much better than GW2. So in the advice of someone who no longer even has a Rift subscription (sadly i might add) go for it. You won't be disappointed

Rift is certainly worth a look if your finances support it. Even with the game coming up on its 2nd anniversary, we have new people joining the Family all the time. Many are coming over from other titles and and are entirely new to Rift. If you decide to make the plunge, make sure to tell us you are brand new to the game. We will be able to get you settled with bags, a mount if you need one, and some basic gear. Don't worry, to an established player these are trivial costs and they will make your first few levels much more enjoyable. See you in /tuatha.

Thanks for the info. I was unable to join Tuatha (said cannot join). I sent an email to Gaiscioch to join the Guild. I now have mail but can't access it. I am level 2. Can I join the event tonight or do I need to be out of the starter area?

Even if you get Rift Lite the trial version, you can level to 20. Check it out. It'll will help you with your decision.

Rift is an OK game (I still prefer GW2 hands down) I have gotten burned out on Rift gameplay several times now but I still pop in once in a blue moon on my chars that are lower than level 20. Rift has its good and bad like every other MMO, it just depends on your tastes :) My 2 biggest turnoffs about Rift is that 1-49 gameplay is pretty much... meh... (Everything is geared for level 50 gameplay) and its PvP is less than stellar. The majority of the population has at least 1..2 if not 6 level 50's already since it really can take just days to get there. (there were level 50's in the early release before the game even launched and its only easier now to level) To its benefit,I had a lot of fun playing with the family there in Rift :) If you give it a try, I'm sure that you can have fun with the family there as well heheh

Did you get your invite? You needed to be out of the starter zone to be in the event and to get mail. Sorry I didn't see this until now.

Thanks Bes. I did make it out of the starter zone and got the Guild invite, much appreciated. Trying to make it to level 10 for the 'Adventure' run. Starting to get a feel for the game.

I'm enjoying GW2 but still strongly prefer Rift. Trion has a pretty good discount on the subscription rate for multi-month and have run several promotions at an even lower rate. I got in on the $99/year ($8.25/month) one they ran at their Anniversary. If you find you really like it you may want to look at the Stormchaser promotion they are running now. $119 for a year of Rift with the Expansion included. Works out to $80/year ($6.67/month) with the $40 for the Expansion. http://stormlegion.riftgame.com/en/ Welcome!

I don't know if I'll reactivate Rift ever. But it remains the most functional best-playing game I've ever played, and Trion is uniquely responsive and responsible. I never felt attached to Telara or my characters, and the gear-gating system left me feeling like there was little to do (as soon as I joined GSCH my gear-improvements stopped dead, but I didn't want to go to a raiding guild). But mostly it was never feeling in-love with the world/game/characters. It's a great game and a company I'd really like to play more of.

I'm coming back to Rift myself also. GW2 is fun and all, but I feel like a stranger in a strange guild there. The family in Rift is much more desirable than the family in GW2, at least to me. Hard to describe really, but I feel like a person who belongs when I play Rift with my family here, and I feel like a nobody, less than human playing with the family in GW2.

Hi.. Just popped in to read the forums. Im back to playing Everquest myself but Rift and Gaiscioch are always on my mind. I'm not the type of player that can go between two games because I don't have a lot of spare time. I love Rift and will go back to it sometime. EQ just announced their next expansion Rain of Fear and there is so much to do in that game and it all suits my playing style perfectly. Like all things.. you get burned out and Rift is the next best thing as far as content imo. So yes I would definitely say try it if you have the means. I have to add though, Gaiscioch really made the game for me. Im not sure how long I would have played without them.

I resubbed my Rift account after joining this amazing family in GW2. Everyone is so welcoming and helpful and now with the new expansion coming (which I delightfully preordered), I actually feel at home and ready to play with awesome people. I would recommed Rift highly to you. It's a great game in and of itself, but Gaiscioch just seems to make it better. =) Hope to see you in game!
