Guild Wars 2: Squad Ability Fundraiser - The Gaiscioch Commanders

Greetings Everyone,

As you know we've been frantically trying to accumulate enough gold to purchase our first few squad commander books for our family event leaders.  For us to run REALLY fun events where people aren't feeling lost and disconnected we need the squad ability for our event leaders. We have Spartan, and Elth heading up day to day WvW activities and Foghladha, Prissy and Lakshmi heading up both PvE and PvP activities. And Bes will be leading GW2 101 PvE activities. These activity leads will be leading activities for the entire server not just our family and these books allow them to create limitless squads, mark maps, set waypoints for hundreds at a time, and use squad chat to communicate with their followers. They are essential to having a smooth event. What this means however is that we as a family need to raise 600 Gold to get our first 6 community event leaders books in their hands and the squad ability into our server's warzones. Bellow you will find the progress towards our book completion.

Up Next:

Now that our major communty event leaders have been commandered we will be rewarding veteran members who have taken the time to lead weekly events for the family in open areas their commander tome. It's our hopes that we can get the people who are actively leading successful events for the family in an open to the community format their commander icons. Closed guild only events aren't what we're using these for. These will be open to the public event leaders only. Last thing we want is people running around being exclusive with a commander icon.  Thats NOT who Gaisicoch is and NOT what we want representing us. In addition we will not award books to those who the elders feel do not properly represent the Gaiscioch way.

At each months Gaiscioch Family Summit we will announce our newest commanders and award them their commanders tome. I would like to use this coming of age as an opportunity to highlight member accomplishments and commitment to the community. These will not be limited to WvW event leaders but will be restricted to members who have been with the family for at least 3 months to ensure their longevity and commitment to the family.  Those that are awarded this book will have been leading public community events for the entire server and have acted as a Gaiscioch should in front of the public eye.

I would like to volunteer for Lakshmi to have the book before me, and I will grab mine last :) The pve events don't start for a week or two, and Shmi already has crafting zergs underway.

I'm happy for Lakshmi and Hex to get their books prior to mine Fog. I'm still learning to herd rabid cats and not having the book is like being thrown into the deep end, I feel it will help me lead if I have a few weeks without the book.

It was a great sense of pride for me that our family had a squad leeader last night and peeps kept wondering how we did it. It sure showed by our awesomeness on the battlefield how well the squad book worked out. Most fun I've had in a long time! Donate! We need that little squad symbol over all of our leaders heads. When I was getting lost, which is a common occurrence - the don't call me "Wrong Way Morigana" for nothing ;) , It was an absolute wonderful rally point!

I think everyone donating 1 gold is a fair and realistic goal. You don't have to send it all at once either.

Just going to keep giving until they all have books. I'm a woman of simple means when it comes to spending in-game - and as long as I have enough for new gear every 5 levels then I am happy and right now, I'm happy.

I am glad I am not the only one trickling it in. I figured a few silver here and there helps somewhat. I do wish I could send in more though.

Yes, Rayco, and I agree with you. ... and I'm glad to see we're progressing. The great thing is with our family's Market Place I don't need to spend a lot of coin in the game - I just order weapons and clothes from the crafters and donote all the materials I harvest. It's one of the best systems I've seen for a guild.

I am sorry to say that I haven't been able to attend any events other than the memorial for Roger. However, I did donate 1G previously and have just accumulated another G and will send that in to you today Fog. I know the family encourages participation in events, and believe me I want to join in, and hope to at some point. Currently, my hubby and I play together and I find it hard to slap on a pair of headphones, turn on RaidCall and basically ignore him while I go off to do things without him. Especially where he had never heard of Guild Wars 2 and I practically badgered him into playing, lol. Yes, I've encouraged him to join the guild and/or events but so far he's just sort of running around doing his thing and I tend to follow. The other thing for ME/US is that bedtime is at 8 p.m. EST and many events begin around that time or later. I am in no way complaining! I am only trying to explain why no one sees me at any events as I have heard on RaidCall that some members join the guild only to sport the GSCH tag and then do not bother with the guild itself and I am NOT one of those types of people. A few times I've thought to leave so as not to hold a spot in the guild that may be better suited to another, more active, player but I really don't want to go!! So, I hope you all can understand my situation and see that although I have yet to attend many events I am trying to participate in other ways. I will hopefully be able to start attending the Saturday morning craft fair as that happens during a time I should be available and it sounds like a blast! Anyhow, sorry, I didn't mean to turn this thread into my issues, just want all to know that I am here, I lurk the boards, I wear our tag and I contribute in other ways. Myk

Myk.... STAY WITH US!!!! Just by your tone, I can tell you care and we need all the caring people possible in the family. It is because we care so much that makes us so strong! Participate whenever you can, however you can.

Don't worry Myk. The family is about playing how you want, when you want for as long as you want. If you choose to join your family on the WvW then that is your decision. If you choose to join the family in other endeavors then it is also your choice. But the when and the style in which you choose to play in no way makes you less of a member of Gaiscioch then anyone else. You are a member of this family and should not feel guilty for the style in which you play the game, and if and when you choose to join in WvW or any other event your family will welcome you with open arms to the field of battle.

Keep in mind these books are NOT WvW Exclusive. I use them in our PvE Events all the time. These are ways for us to group a much larger force. We will need these for the High Level raid zones as well. This doesn't just benefit WvW. This benifits all of our public community events from crafting zerg, to PvE completion run's, to end game pve raids, to conquering the WvW Battlefield. This is an All Inclusive item and absolutely critical to our large scale events success.

I'm wondering if gem purchases would accelerate the process? Meaning if we had a rl donation point... allowing said leader to purchase gems then gold, would that help?

No, don't wast real life money on this. The gem conversion rate atm is about 20$ for 5g. Not worth it.

As the week gets closer will finally be able to run random runs to assist with our goals. I will look forward to running you all.

I have donated what I could and have attended some events. What I wanted to say was that book created a symbol on the leader that I could follow and always see. One event had 132 peeps in raidcall, my graphics were terrible and my screen was constantly rendering, but I always knew where my leader was and could follow along. I know there are other reason for the book, but that one symbol shines thru the haze and leads the lost to fun and exciting adventures. My donations will continue.

One question on the donations: are we supposed to claim anything on the website like participation points? I don't mind either way as I want to get commanders their books for WvW, but I wanted to make sure I didn't miss out if there was an area to claim gold donations.

At this time we have not allowed financial donations to grant contribution. The battle to keep the possibility to "buy a rank" from being a reality is the leading reason why we do not. These books do not benifit 1 they benifiy all which is the second reason we do not. This is like earning influence. We need it as a family and we all benifit from its existance.

I will be sending 50s when next I log on. Question, I am really interested in trying my hand at some leadership and have been reading up and preparing. Would it be appropriate to schedule a PvE event where the goal is farming cash to donate to this cause? Like perhaps all profit from the event or 50/50. This might be a good way to fund this?

wow good progress on the books! i didnt think we would have so many already.

We're making pretty good headway. I'm swapping Prissy and Bes as Prissy has offered to take over my events while I'm in Maryland.

I will be giving all what I can farm since I now have my exotic gears, I think we have good potential regarding WvW leaders and that's why my earnings will go to the guild commanders book. I also am thinking that we should start to save money for upgrades for WvW, it can really make a huge difference.

Were monitoring several factors and basing our decisions on people we feel will carry our name to the sanctum of rall community and embody the Gaiscioch Way. I'm not going to go into specifics and so help me if I get a person complaining they should get a book first ill see to it they never get a book. See the Gaiscioch Way page in the about section if your wondering why. Those that show commitment, selflessness, patience, kindness, and help all even when it doesn't benifit themselves will be the ones getting books. I am working on a wee bit of a in game award ceremony just to have fun with it.

Could we organize a few runs and donate all proceeds? Black Friday marathon? I am not touching the stores except for Amazon. I am game for a few hours of fun and fellowship for a very worthy cause.
