How do we feel about having multiple WvW events at the same time?

Hey all, I'm just trying to get a feel for what people think about having more than one WvW event happening at the same time?

Let me preface this by saying that I don't think WvW events should become a popularity contest, or that commanders should be "fighting" over potential attendes, but I have heard on multiple occasions that some things (queues in particular) prevent people from getting into the WvW zone that an event is being run on, and that people might like to have a second option. This could potentially happen on any night, but my feeling is that Friday night would be the most likely occasion for something like this to be worthwhile.

What do you all think?

The bigger issue is how are we pervcieved when we do multiple zones. When we first started here we lead on all three borderlands at the same time. People started saying we were hogging the battlefield so we put our best foot forward and stuck to one zone. I don't want us to take the limelight away from other commanders. If at all possible I would like us to stick together and become united in cause. If queues are an issue queue for every map. Then once your in a map join one of the commanders there while you wait for the pop to get into our map. Remember that Gaiscioch is not made of the best players in the world. We are a casual gaming community that likes to wvw. This means that our strength is no in one individual but in all of us. The more were together the stronger we will be and the more fun everyone will have. Definately play by the calendar. If a leader has an event on the calendar do not try to spawn a pickup event just before their event. There's been a bit of this happening and its quite disheartening when someone drops into your event channel and trys to steal your raid from you. This should not be done.

If I am incorrect fog/elders please correct me, but i remember reading that you still get fellowship points for the event even while in queue. So doing what Fog suggested and joining another bl and getting to play while waiting for the queue does not take away from earning participation in the actual event. The only problem with this that i see is that people love playing with gsch family and don't feel comfortable playing with other commanders. In that sense they may get burnt out of just sitting and waiting for a spot on the actual gsch event. If we have a back up readily available like kraas said then they could join in on that and not feel left out and get to play with other gsch. The other event doesn't even have to be posted because everybody is in the queue for the other event and will check that event in the participation page. I would just consider having a person who is willing to lead on another bl on standby for this situation. The leader does not even have to have a commander icon. They would attach themselves to the existing commander on the field and follow the zerg while helping out fellow guildie's learn while actually playing. This will put a lot of new people at ease since they can ask questions in raidcall and the leader can help direct them. when their queue pops they move over and move into the other raidcall channel. Anyway...i do think the queues are an obstacle for newer players, most of which only give wvw a shot during our events. also note that this is only and issue during really long queues. Okay lost my train of thought now...lol...back and forth writing this while helping my youngest daughter potty train :)). basically...thoughts on making it more friendly and easy for new players to get into wvw during events are always welcome :).

The big issue here Ruwund, is that we don't want to trample on other leaders show. We want to condense our leadership onto one map at a time letting the rest take the other 3 maps. If we start spreading across all maps it will appear to the community that we are hogging the map and this looks bad on us.

I see. Kraas is suggesting an overflow event with a standby leader. But Fog is saying on Friday there are supposed to be set commanders for the different BL's. I think what's trying to be said is if we can't get into the green borderland on Friday, lets have a designated 2nd choice with a commander either willing to lead or follow existing commanders, and we can still claim participation. Right?

Join other commanders on their map while you wait for the queue pop on ours. If your actively trying to get on the map (Be honest and honorable or you'll meet Conchobhair the evil twin of Foghladha) you can claim participation for the event you pvqing for. I do not want to see Gaiscioch spreading out across multiple maps trying to lead separate events. It's not good in the eyes of the community and will end me me getting flamed more on forums and having to clean up messes explaining on why we are not the tyrannical overlord elitist warmongers they perceive us to be.

Its all good. we are just trying to find ways for the newer members to feel comfortable in wvw. Sitting in a queue for wvw will turn a lot of people off to it. Instead of joining other bl's maybe have the standby event be something in the pve realm where people feel actively engaged and then excited when their queue's pop? I am not sure if you can spvp and be in a queue for wvw...anybody know?

Regarding the queues, I believe we are at the point where people start to lose interest in GW2 and it is reflected in the queue time since most of the time there is now less frequently a queue in all borderlands but it happens when one of the major guilds bring their group to one of the borderlands.

One of the biggest problems with GW2 is the cap on players in WvW in my opinion. Because of the cap, we could essentially fill all of GSCH on all borderlands and the battlegrounds by ourselves. On a guild scale, we're not making any friends. On a personal scale, I feel my actions and presence in WvW doesn't even matter, since I know there could be countless people waiting any moment to take my place. The cap also makes battles in WvW such small in scale...compounded again by the render issue.

> I am not sure if you can spvp and be in a queue for wvw...anybody know? I've not done this myself, but several Google results state that this is possible. That's quite a good idea, if you're doing pickup games, since people jump in and out of those all the time. When your queue pops, you take it, and you're not really leaving anyone high and dry. I don't recommend doing jumping puzzles while you wait for the queue, though I've found that one of the best ways to get the queue to pop quickly is to be halfway done with one. :P Personally, I give up on WvW if I hit a queue for a family event. As far as I know, there are 166 people per side in each battleground. For a family event, up to 100 of those are GSCH, and are virtually guaranteed to stay the duration of the event. By sitting in the queue, I'm basically waiting for a family member to crash, or for one of the non-GSCH to get tired of winning and leave. I usually stay in the queue and RaidCall anyway, but I know that the odds are not in my favor, so I don't get my hopes up.

You can sPvP while in the WvW queue, I do it all the time. Typically if there's a queue for family night, I either sPvP or farm in Cursed Shores until it pops.

WvW maps are a revolving door, so map switching happens a lot, for a large variety of different reasons. I stay queued, there's no reason to leave it and the odds are good that you're not taking advantage of another family member's misfortune. We typically field about 20-40 for most events, and for Trinity night, maybe 60-70 based on what I hear when squad counts are called. edit: I also wanted to add, that on Fridays, its going to be packed regardless of whether or not GSCH has an event, so I recommend queuing at least an hour before event time. If you AFK while waiting know that the AFK timeout is greatly shortened while on a WvW map. WARNING: AFKing for extended periods of time while in a WvW map is an account suspension offense. Don't sweat a short AFK, but please don't stand at zone waypoint for an hour, hitting jump key every 5m to stay connected.

Ok, just to be extra clear. -We are allowed to enter other Borderlands while we wait for the queue to the scheduled event. -We are not allowed to hold a Commander tag nor stand out as a leader on the other borderlands during a scheduled event. Questions: These are hypothetical, but if interest in WvW keeps growing they are highly likely. -If a group of GSCH are not wanting to be part of the scheduled event, and have been playing as a pick up group on another borderland, are they allowed to represent GSCH (guild tag) on that borderland? If so, are they allowed to claim their own 'unscheduled event' on this borderland if there is more than 5 GSCH present? -If 10-15 GSCH are actively queued for the main event but on another borderland, are they allowed to run as a separate group from the other commanders on the field (assuming they are actively helping said commanders)? Example: all and only GSCH go attack Bluelake Tower as a distraction while the main force attacks GreenBriar Tower. If so, is a leader allowed to create a separate Raidcall channel to help organize these GSCH waiting for the main event? What if this GSCH group grows to 40+?

Question 1, yes people are free to represent gaiscioch and form groups on other maps and even claim objectives. I just ask that they do not pull away from people trying to group togehter for the main family event. I spent a ton of time writing a commanders guide last night. This is all covered there. Commanding in Guild Wars 2 - The Gaiscioch Way We have several raid call channels setup for wvw. your more than welcome to jump in and do your own thing. I just want to avoid having more than 1 scheduled WvW event on more than 1 borderlands. If GSCH has commanders on 2 or more maps it looks like we're hogging the battlefield which then leads to nasty posts and tarnished reputation. I want to avoid that at all costs.
