So, two days ago I came up with an idea. I had a Sunrise, and I wanted a Twilight as well, but I had no inclination to grind for a third legendary (the second being FSP). So I figured: why not get a player to send me their unbound Twilight, I'll unlock the skin, and then forge it with my Sunrise to make Eternity! I mail them the Eternity as compensation for their Twilight, and everyone profits!
In theory, brilliant. In practice...
Two days of getting downvoted/trolled/banned on GW2 subreddits and being trolled/abused in LA, my patience was running thin and my hope running out. I understand that trusting someone with your Twilight is a big step, but there's no reason to be rude and hostile to someone merely offering a service. I offered as much reasoning and collateral as I could to ensure that interested players could be assured of my legitimacy, and I got a few interested parties who were going to think it over. (As of this morning, one pm'ed me, but I was unable to complete the deal due to what happened last night.)
Last night, a player excitedly whispered me saying he wanted to do it, and how would it go down, etc. At first he wanted me to mail him the Eternity, at which point he would send me the Twilight, and I told him what the plan was and that I needed his Twilight to make the Eternity. He hurriedly agreed, ignoring my offers of collateral and mailing me the Twilight. I was touched by his trust.
But all was not as it seemed...
I did exactly as promised, taking screenshots along the way, and mailed him back the Eternity. Here's where it got interesting: after mailing him the Eternity, two GM's (including him) tagged up on either side of me and informed me that the trade had been with Anet, and they were testing to see if I was legitimate. They asked if I wanted my Twilight back (I think one was confused about which GS I started with, and meant to offer me my Sunrise) so I could continue to offer my trade, but I told them that I hadn't had many interested parties and was largely just getting abuse, so I didn't think anyone would take me up on it. This left them with the problem of the Eternity, which they couldn't very well just delete since I sacrificed my Sunrise to make it, but clearly had no interest in keeping. So they asked who I would like them to send it to, and NO ONE on my friend's list was online. Not my wife, not my long-time friends from GW1, not even my boss. So I asked in GC who wanted a free Eternity from Anet, and as you'd expect, no one took it seriously. But Jedibarbie was the first to respond, so she got it. Congrats, Jedibarbie! The devs stayed in map a little time to clear my name, and I uploaded the screenshots to Imgur.
All in all, an interesting night.
