All the sites noted above help - the wiki and the interactive map at gw2timer.com is where I got most of my information.
There are at total of 55 ranger pets in GW2. My ranger list for a ranger that has not opened PoF yet, is 50 pets long.
There are four pets you will not be able to tame without Hall of Monument (HoM) points from playing the original GW. These are:
- Black Moa - rank 15 HoM
- Rainbow Jellyfish - rank 20 HoM
- White Raven - rank 25 HoM
- Blackwidow Spider - rank 30 HoM
HoT Maps only:
- Bristleback
- Smokescale
- Electric Wyvern
- Fire Wyvern
- Tiger
PoF Maps only:
- Cheetah
- Sand Lion
- Fanged Iboga
- Jacaranda
- Rock Gazelle
Southsun Cove only:
- Reef Drake - noted as he is the only ranger pet that has the cove as his only home
All other mobs can be found throughout the original Tyrian maps and in multiple locations. Some are found only in higher level zones and some are less common than others, but they are not restricted to one map and do not need an expansion for.
The following list is what we managed to find in cities and in the first two zones for each racial area on our test run this past Saturday, 11/18. I may have missed something but the following is what I am sure of.
- Eagle
- Raven
- Fern Hound
- Krytan Drakehond
- Pink Moa
- Pig
- Siamoth
- Warthog
- Jungle Spider
- Arctodus
- Brown Bear
- Murellow
- Polar Bear
- Lashtail Devourer
- Whiptail Devourer
- Ice Drake
- Marsh Drake
- River Drake
- Jungle Stalker
- Snow Leopard
- Armor Fish
- Blue Jellyfish
- Shark
On 12/2 we will be starting with Snowden Drifts, the last of the low zones (It's the 2nd zone out for Norn in level). I'll be working on how we track into the higher zones for pets - mostly 30+ in level and we may even get into the 70+ stuff depending on who has zones open. We WILL RUN through zones not opened to everyone so there will be minor map opening at times where we'll traipse over waypoints and POIs in our path only to a pet. And we shall see how long it takes to do what I thoroughly researched versus alt tabbing to the map at gw2timer - it only took an hour for the zones I did mark down for the test event.
Thanks to everyone that helped with the test run and hopefully by 12/2 I'll have a tag for you all to follow because some people are just not direction oriented and I'm not expecting you to be. And I know blue dots do not show up as well on snowy maps. ;) Most of the time it worked though I think I lost Maxina majorly once near the end and some of you learned to speak up better about having the map not open which helped us work out the kinks.
