Silverwastes "Save our Shovels" materials raiser, Oct 17 @ 7:30pm PST

I'll be leading a Silverwastes event this Saturday, following the raid meeting.  This will be a last hurrah in the Silverwastes before HoT and a "materials raiser" for the guild.  Instead of the usual shovel train, we'll be saving those shovels to help build our guild halls.  (Silverwastes Shovels are need to upgrade the Mine, which is one of the first steps to unlocking the vast majority of guild hall improvements.)  

We'll do the usual events, Vinewrath, Pacman circuit so there should be plenty of personal loot too.  Personally I'm looking forward to stocking up on silky sand.  With HoT those "nothing" results when you click silky sand will give coarse sand, which is a new material needed in the Scribe craft.

I hope you can join me for the fun, and help us prepare for the guild halls.

I have several shovels that I will be happy to donate. To whom should I send them?

I will have to remember to save the sand. --> just looked at some of the recipes....as if cotton weren't expensive enough already.

You'll need to hang on to the shovels until HoT.  They are account-bound, but there's a new system called the Treasury coming in with Guild Halls that lets you donate account-bound materials right into the build menu for an upgrade.  I'm not 100% sure but it seemed like we'd be able to get to the treasury from the guild panel.

Anyway, for now I plan to stock up on shovels (and sand).  If it turns out that we have more than enough we can always bust out a shovel train later on. :)

Also, you can see there are plenty of other materials we'll need, and Fog has already been gathering some of the them using the missions on the home page of this website.   Most of those aren't account bound so they are a lot easier to round up.

I will be happy to have a place to use these shovels. Because I like the SW events much more than I like the trains, I have accumulated almost 100 shovels.  It is unfortunate that a lot of the materials shown in the screenshot put pressure on common crafted items. Why no need for leather? Hopefully that will be used in another manner. Do I understand correctly that siege equipment will no longer despawn? If so, that will help lessen the need for mithril and elderwood.

I don't actually know about the seige equipment but ArenaNet have been hinting that the value of crafting mats is going to go topsy turvy.  New ways to get some, salvaging changes, new places to use them (including Guild Halls).

For the Guild Halls, I think the most important thing to keep in mind is that we have a large guild with 100s of active members.  If we can manage to spread the donations out it shouldn't be too hard to create the guild hall we want.

PS -- the screenshots above are just an example of one of MANY things we'll be able to build for/in the guild hall.  I think we'll have to wait for launch to know how leather (for example) will be used.
