All crafts on one character, or alts?

I know Jerich addressed this in his guide, but I'm still undecided.  Beyond the basics -- hassle (swapping toons) and cost (swapping crafts) issues -- how does this choice impact my ability to craft the cool end game gear later on?

Here are a couple of scenarios:

  1. I play my warrior exclusively, and get world map completion on her.  (This is my short term plan in any case.)
  2. A few months from now I fall in love with a different class and decide to craft one of the legendaries for it.  But I don't want to do the world completion thing all over again.

How does the all-on-one vs. alts choice affect me in these scenarios?  Do we even know enough about crafted exotics and legendaries yet to answer this?

thanks! ~Shmi

I wish I could answer this for what you need, but all I can offer is my advice. I plan to also have one character for world completion. And the others as other crafters. Just in case I realize down the road I need something, and there isn't anyone who can get it for me. I feel that with 5 character slots, you can do all 10 crafts and have them spread out. I just don't think you can focus on more than one at a time. Im doing 2 with my main. And I get so far with the Leathercrafting, that I don't have any fine crafting stuff for my Huntsman. So I will be getting to 400 in Leatherworking before completing my Huntsman. I don't know if that will take me longer. Its just, what I see working for me now.

Well, from the standpoint of character slots. Every character that you craft to high levels on is pretty much locked in place for name, looks, and class. So I think splitting the crafts up is best if you have some legacy characters that only make sense as one class in this game; while having all crafts on one character makes the most sense if you're not sure which other classes you are going to play.

What is the "world completion thing", and what does it get you that is helpful for high end crafting?

@Dargron - World map completion is completing the exploration for all zones. You'll see 100% on your map in the upper left when you get it. Apparently this rewards 2 account-bound "Gifts of Exploration". It's still just speculation but some folks wonder if these are a required component for crafting Legendaries.

Great question, Shmi. I've been debating this same thing myself. (Right now, I'm leaning towards only getting two professions on each character.) After doing a bit of research, I believe that the items you need to craft are not soulbound (so you could make them on any alt). *However,* I'm not 100% sure about this.

Was a post about this on the official forums, you need the 100% map completion for the items for the legendaries but the gifts are account bound. any of your toons can make them. I believe.

Nice to know I'm on the right track towards a legendary. Progress is slow, but I've been steadily working my way through completing every map (so far up to 52% map completion). I'm likewise torn on whether to put all crafts on one character or split them between alts. However, with the way mats are dropping for me, I figure it'll be at least a few more weeks before I max out my current two crafts and get to the point of needing to make a final decision.
