Time to revisit FC buffs?

Might be time to revisit our FC buffs given the changes in 2.1.

  • Heat of Battle: +5% XP from mob kills
  • Reduced Rates: Teleport is 20% cheaper

We were running Reduced Rates during the week (M-F), and Heat of Battle on the weekend (Sat-Sun).  Since the holidays started we've run Heat of Battle even more days per week.

What do folks think about FC buffs now that you've seen 2.1?

  • Are you playing your level 50, or leveling?
  • Are you killing lots of mobs to level?  For example, FATE grinding.
  • How much teleporting are you doing?
  • Are there other buffs you might prefer?  For example, reduced gear wear by 10% is popular with other FCs.

Comment below, and be sure to note which days you play the most.  This is one of those things where it's impossible to satisfy everyone -- so many different activities we all do.  As in the past, we will try to pick ones that benefit the most guildies on that day of the week.

I like reduced rates because we teleport so much.

I also like the one that helps our companions level.

I'm a fan of the one that helps us level since, well, I'm still leveling lol. Cheaper teleport races are also nice. Can't really say when I'm most active as it varies but when I do play it usually isn't until 8pm PST or later.

If you meet yourself on the testing track, don't make eye contact. Lab boys tell me that'll wipe out time. Entirely.

Thanks for posting Shmi.  Chris and I were discussing this yesterday and had both come to the conclusion that heat of battle is not the best use of the FC buff if you apply maths to the benefits!

With housing costs being so high, and the economy crashing, it is getting a little more difficult to make money in the game.  You can no longer sell HQ fish for 50k or cash in philosophy tomes to sell crafting mats for 30k.  Even raid treasure map sales are devaluing each day.

That said, in my opinion, the single most valuable buff we have is reduced teleports.  This is at a flat 20% regardless of player level. Whereas reduced repairs are beneficial to those at 50, but insignificant to lower level players as the scaling is fairly consistent, and then ramps up once you get darklight and beyond.

With the new content, players are much more likely to teleport to do dailies, gather for maps, complete story questlines and the like. This is going to be super expensive for those not 50, as it is one set fee regardless of level. For those of us who are 50 and wanting to accrue a few extra hundred thousand for housing, every time we port, our potential housing donation is lessened just getting to where we need to go to farm money!

The dungeon xp has been considerably increased for those levelling, so they would still be better off without Heat of Battle, than they were pre patch.  Dungeon roulette in particular gives an excellent bonus.  I got 158k the other day on my 48 sch for doing one level 20 ifrit!  Crazy, but nice!

We will go with what the majority feel is best, but if you want to go by factual maths, teleport reduction would help the guild the most, by saving us money each time we port, and allowing those of us paying for housing to put more into the collective pot.

Remember:  Heat of Battle only 5% per level vs Redcued rates 20% cheaper every time you port regardless of level.

Teleport is easily my favorite buff, but I mostly play at level 50.

In the long run since housing is a bit of a goal right now instead of EXP i vote reduced gear decay.

I play mostly late at night or early morning eastern time.  I mostly play on my level 50 class and prefer the reduced teleport fee..

I prefer the  teleport even if I've done leveling on every class in the game.  For the moment when it comes to bashing on things it is mostly with my L50 bard as I try to go through more of the story and move into end game stuff.  I think I just hit about the point where the story ended in 2.0 and now moving into what they added in 2.1.

Now what I hate initially with the roullette system is if you are new to a dungeon and want to watch the cut scences, but there are also people who just want to speed run through having done it before.  I actually missed two prime fights because of one idiot in an 8 man that would not wait for anyone.  So I started watching the very first part of the cut scene for the scene setup and usually that gave me enough to understand how the fight fit in the story.  Of course, I really do like a good story and sometimes there are some little twists or other interesting tidbits buried in those cutscenes.

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D

Reduced teleport fees for sure!  Other than that it does not matter to me.

I have put up reduced teleport fees for now, we will revisit it in the new year.  If anyone finds a nerd thread on the most economical buff, feel free to post!

My preference has always been Reduced Rates (even when I'm leveling!), but I also have no issues if members would still like to see Heat of Battle on occasion (or even Earth & Water/Helping Hand).

That being said, it would not be the end of the world to me if we're not running the most "efficient" buff possible every single day, so long as whatever active buffs that are chosen have been done so in the best interest of fun for the majority of our members. How we ultimately define said fun is up to everyone's replies both here, and in-game.

They're both insignificant bonuses:

+5% XP for kills = just a couple extra critters an hour.  If you are killing constantly for an hour, you'll earn a whopping extra 3 minutes worth of kills.  Pft.

-20% teleport costs - If players are worried about spending gil, then they should not be using the instant teleport system, so the +20% reduction won't really matter much over time.  The teleportation system is not designed to be the primary method of travel, that's why its designed to be a money sink and they have a mount + airship travel system that costs much less.

FFXIV's travel system design is very much like LOTRO's, except that instead of hour-long cooldowns on instant travel skills (LOTRO's milestones, housing, main towns), Yoshi wisely chose to go with high gil costs to provide an economy sink for the lazy who can't take an extra 5m to ride the chocobo to their destination for a fraction of the cost.

So TBH, I wouldn't worry about wasting time in trying to figure out which buff is best, they're both frufru.  However, you can count on the fact that most players are lazy and entitled, so the best bang for the buck will probably be the teleportation cost reduction buff.

I'm one for reduced teleport. I understand Sekk's comments but with Tmara and I bamf'ing around, we already pay less than others (since same fee no matter size of party) and anything less helps us out. If we were soloing, we'd walk places a little more than that though.

Anything that helps saving money is a thumbs up in my book of late.

Yea, the group design is great.  At least they gave us that.  LOTRO has something similar, but it requires a Hunter or store bought stuff.
