Dev Blog Article

From the 18th October to 1st November, FFXIV ARR will have it's first Halloween event!

Pasting above link's contents below!

---

Greetings, everyone!
It's Bayohne here, back with some spooooky news to share!

I don't know if you've noticed it, but it feels like the atmosphere around the city-states has really started to change. It feels very foreboding, like something is just not quite right...

Ul'dah looks a little different, right? There's something I can't quite put my finger on.

Oh wait a second. It's October!
You know what that means!?
"All Saints' Wake" will soon descend upon Eorzea!

Looks like Gridania has started to change, too.

Limsa Lominsa is all set to go.

Disappointingly brief.  I think I finished in under an hour, I wasn't even trying to rush it.  All I got was a couple pieces of "food" and two ghost costumes that are disappointingly redundant in appearance.  I actually had to wear and remove them a couple of times to notice the slight differences.  Of course, those also won't store in the Armoire in your Inn rooms.

That said, the quest's story rocked, the decorations are off-the-hook and they really did a nice job on dressing up the main towns.  Its a fantastic effort, I'd rate it as one of the best in-game celebrations that I've seen in an MMO, from a lore and visual viewpoint.  I'm just disappointed in the lack of activities and the briefness of the one quest they gave us.

Did I miss that they're going to bring more next week or something?  :(

No, I believe it is that brief. It was a disappointment but the plus side was there was no grinding like you would in World of Warcraft. Someone posted on the official forums with ideas because apparently FFXI's seasonal events were more than this was and hence to take some pages from that as well as GW2.

Maybe they are more focused on fixing and implementing more important stuff and just kind of threw what we got together for at least some thing? Thinking it's better then nothing? I don't know, just grasping at straws and I have no idea why I'm defending them lol.

No, I agree with you actually. I think that was what I was thinking in the back of my head as their Patch 2.1 must be a huge strain on them. Not only is it the first major patch but it is the first major patch since FFXIV 1.0 was shut down.

A lot of games have just one or two people assigned to seasonal events, one does the art and the other does the quest planning, writing and scripting.  Often its just one, because the art dept doesn't have much to do and are finished well ahead of other projects, so they bang out some art for the event and might even help the event writer if they need.

So in a lot of games, expansions (or monthly content like RIFT has) are independent of events.  It really depends on each individual dev shop and how they assign their staffing duties.
