Error Subscribing (Code 401/601)

I don't know if anyone else has been hit by this but posting this here just incase. When you go through the process of subscribing and after it registers the credit card (and takes out the authorisation fee), the game then states how much it will be and to hit next. At that point, a LOT of people are getting an error that there is no official response to yet.

Official Thread

The downside is that thread is from the 19th September to now with 54 pages. I have used two cards and tempted to try a third but each time I attempt it, it takes the fee out (temporary for up to a week).

The annoyance is using the same card on two accounts doesn't mean they both will renew. Marrra's account is now 3 months subscribed while mine has now gone inactive.

Update 1: We tried card #3 (Marrra's) and it failed as well.

Update 2: We tried calling the bank as per FC comment but no luck. They see nothing wrong at all on their end. I just hope it isn't as true as people are saying and that every attempt is 24 hours extra lock.

I've opted for something some other Australians are doing in the above thread I listed: Order a 60 day time card from game.co.uk. It ends up cheaper than the subscription fees (as they are Euro to AUD not Pound to AUD) and they email the code once the process goes through. Someone on the above thread replied and then edited their reply 20 mins later stating they are now in game.

I'm in that waiting phase now. 

I have to state it though that the credit card was declined by Game.co.uk and we had to paypal it instead. I would then say that the payment from Square Enix is having an issue with the Credit Card Companies themselves and we won't be doing it that way again. Instead, we'll do it via the time card method.

Update: I'm wondering how many people are now flocking to Game.co.uk since I saw it as it has been an hour. I got confirmation that the payment went through and to await the email of the code. Since it has been an hour, I think they may be inundated :P Time for bed and to check in the morning.

I had the same issue, what finally worked for me was putting in my credit card using internet explorer as my browser. I normally use Firefox with a 'NoScript" app and I had disabled the security for the app and would still get nothing but 601 rejects. Tried it in explorer (aka 'exploder' as I hate that program) and it worked. Might be worth a try for you.

I actually had tried that yesterday too. I use Chrome, so I tried IE with the security levels turned down, no luck.

I just woke up to the shock that Game.co.uk cancelled the order and it definitely wasn't due to money. I've sent them an email asking what went wrong.

EDIT: Through the thread above, people are finding out that via WebChat with SE that you cannot use the same credit card on more than one account.

That's because RMT sellers will buy a crapload of accounts using stolen credit card information.  To say that it creates a huge headache for the developer/publishers is an understatement.

Well, bummer, sorry to hear that you're having so much trouble, Jase.  Its very odd that you're having problems with that other website, it almost sounds like you've tripped fraud alerts on your credit cards, so its very puzzling that the bank says nothing is wrong on their end.  Personally, I'd get hold of a supervisor at the bank that controls your credit card and have them check into why your purchases are failing to complete.  If for anything, just to ensure that no requests have come through and been denied for whatever reasons, be it addressing, middle initial issues, etc.

I'm also surprised that you can't use Paypal to buy Crysta, then use the Crysta to pay for the subscription.  SE hints that they'd prefer people do it that way, so that no one has to risk exposing their credit card, its supposed to be a securer method of paying for subscriptions.  >_>

edit: read the thread and yea, because they have account restrictions for repeated failures, I'd try Paypal and Crysta, or see if you can't find a Crysta card at a local gaming shop, then use that after waiting a day or two for restrictions to clear.  I was tempted to go that route anyway, I have Paypal set up to use my credit card as preferred payment methods (versus bank account) and try to use them as much as possible.

Well, on the positive, we gave up on game.co.uk as for some reason it really didn't like us but got our key from another site. That one gave us the run around but only because I didn't do the phone key system properly to begin with and had to use ID instead.

Note to self though, don't be lazy changing a name on PayPal, it bites you eventually :P (re: Marrra)

Thank you all for the assistance, hopefully the aboves work for someone else perhaps in the same boat.

But for now..
