Question About Limit Breaks

In Duty Finder Groups is there a community standard for who uses the limit break once it's charged?

I was healing Tam-Tara last night and the bar sat full for a long time. I told the dps in chat to feel free to use it on the bosses but no one ever did. I finally used it to heal just because I wanted to see what it did.

In the groups I have been in someone usually says at the start that they want to use it, especially more at end game where a particular class needs to use it to dps something or heals get tough for whatever reason.  I guess you just chat to the group and decide.

For me, as a tank, I like it when the limit break is saved for me to use (50% damage reduction for 10s) or when a Thurm uses it during boss fights to kill adds (huge targeted AoE damage).  Mostly healers wont need it if they're half decent, and I havent seen too many dragoons to use it as a nice single target burst.

Usually going to be a LNC, PUG, or THM (or their equivalent jobs, of course) that use the limit break. People want the burst damage versus tank survivability or extra heals. Of course, you should always adjust to the group - if you have a tank that takes a lot of damage on boss fights obviously extra damage isn't so useful when the tank is dead.

Full party groups are different in raids, however; situational use of LB is important. For example, during Ifirit HM people want to save the triple LB for a BLM aoe nuke on the spikes. Coil raids might want it saved for WHM aoe rez.

The only guarantee you've got really is that a Bard will never use the LB, lol!

Not true! I've used that limit break on my bard to save the group from a wipe on level 50 content.lol

Thanks for the advice, I just hated seeing it go to waste.

Everquest 2 and LOTRO have similar mechanics.  AFAICR, the DPS options are usually the most popular with this mechanic, because its aggro-free DPS.  The faster a critter dies, the less mitigation and replenishment is needed.

I assume that FFXIV's mechanic will be similar.
