Ranged classes suggestions for first character?

Just read in a post by the Dev Team that they are monitoring the servers this weekend and if all goes well they plan on resuming digital sales in all regions. So I'm thinking that means on Monday we can buy it but personally hoping that maybe Sunday they start up digital sales again.  So as I get ready I was looking at my first character and was looking for some input from those of you already in game. I enjoy ranged and I also enjoy healing. But I tend to end up solo'ing a lot of times so it needs to be a good solo character as well.  First and foremost good at ranged solo'ing but if it's also a class that can heal then that's even better.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

Arcanist sounds perfect for you. They're ranged, but they have a pet, so you're not getting beat on (much). They have a heal, though they are officially classified as a DPS. When you get them to 30, you can get the job of Summoner, which is more of the same, or Scholar, which is a healer type that uses a pet to help heal.

They're very similar to Warlocks in WoW - they use Damage over Time (DoT) spells and the pet to kill stuff. Around level 18 they get a regen for their pet so they can pretty much defeat any tough mob that doesn't do any sort of insta kill. They are crazy (awesome) soloers.

Sounds like an Arcanist.  Ranged caster with pet.  Eventually they can lead to two jobs, Scholar and Summoner.  They can heal and raise too.

Arcanist sounds perfect. Use to love my Warlock in WoW.  Thanks for the input :)

I agree, Arcanist's are awesome but if you like a challenge. lv a CNJ to lv10 then switch over to THM this way you way you have a Healing spell and protection spell available to you. and once you learn the mana management for THM, your power soars to new heights. and ofcource once you learn how, you can summon your Chocobo as a tanking pet which will help in higher level areas
