I usually find myself very patient with games a release, and let a lot slide. Maybe it is because I enjoy the game play so much but the complete oversight by SE blows my mind.  With a pre-order system how do you not know what kind of server capacity you need?  How do you not know to implement a que and afk kicking?  Again I understand it is the first week and there are things to be worked out but it blows my mind that I have been able to log in in the evening only twice in 4 days.  I know others have had it much worse and I feel for you, and I know other stay logged in to avoid having to fight the masses and I hate you...just kidding.  I would roll on another less populated server cause really it would only take a me a few nights to get back to where I am now but I don't want to leave all my old friends from Rift days.  Anyway just a rant before I go back to spamming 0-0 pause 0-0 pause 0-0 pause OH 12th in QUE, error 1017 0-0 pause.....

The catch with the preorder system though is Marrra and I got our copies a day before Early Access. I doubt we'd be the only ones who did it like that.

But I do agree, the launch has been rough but it is definitely a LOT better than it was. The only downside right now is the creation limitation. Otherwise I actually got into the game this morning before work and that is a first in the last 3 days.

Got up an hour early today to try an sneak in the game...maintenance time.  While bummed this is a good thing, I noticed the small patch and hopefully they will be making some good changes to ease the congestion.

The overflow zones from GW2 deserve to be stolen by everyone else making a MMORPG ever.  I suspect they are harder to implement then we would think.

Trion had similar issues when they released RIFT, with meteoric pre-order sales that went far beyond their expectations.  Its like Wal-Mart on Black Friday, trying to fit those hundreds of shoppers through those little doors and into a store that's designed to hold maybe a hundred concurrent shoppers, tops.

AFK timers do more to help their network congestion and server loads, than they are helpful to players.  The extra code costs time and money to develop and test, so unless they determine during the design phase, that idle players will be a problem to their network and server architecture, then they won't waste time with it.

My opinion is that they should have held a longer Open Beta stress test period.  They shut down too soon, knowing that they had issues and fixes that were not fully tested under stress.  A lot of us tried to warn them on the Beta forums, but they're stubborn about their Beta schedule.

They'll get it sorted, although it is a bit of deja vu x3 (previously RIFT and GW2).
