Cross-Platform Play (playing one account on PC and PS3)

So, I downloaded the PS3 software this past weekend, since its the Release client and I had a PS3 code for the Final Beta.  I wanted to see if I could play Veronika on both PC and PS3.  Short answer: Yes, I was able to.  It just required linking my PS3 account to my Squeenix account, then activating the PS3 Final Beta service for the account.

Now that pre-order codes are redeemable and accounts can be configured for Release, I decided to test to see if my account was ready to go on both platforms.

I have a PC-Windows Digital CE code.  I redeemed it, all went well, updated my PC launcher, verified the "wait for early start" message and whatnot.

Then I hopped on my PS3, let it update the launcher and I logged in with the same account that I use for PC, which should already have been linked with my PS3 account (as stated above), but instead of the "wait for early start", I got the "no valid or active service account" screen.

Hmm.

I'd heard that PS3 purchasers will be able to also play on a PC client, but no one has ever been clear on the 180° of that.  There is a higher price for PS3, so I don't know if that has anything to do with the inability to cross-platform if you purchase a PC code or not.

I'm going to look into this over the next few weeks, see if I can't find out why and if they'll ever "sell" a PS3 service account link for PC purchasers, but if anyone has any other information on this, feel welcome to post it.

I'm a little disappointed, because I have a huge Plasma HDTV and it would be nice to go sit on the couch and get away from my computer desk, but its not a critical OMGTEHWURLDENDZ! issue for me.  It might be a good reason to go buy a CE box for the PS3 though, I wanted one but couldn't afford it for now, but later I can.

So if anyone has been wondering, too: Nope, if you buy a PC code, you cannot go jump on your PS3 and play, at this time.

PC users can play on the PS3 if they buy the game for the PS3.

My story is a little different, I'm a 1.0 CE account holder (non-legacy), so I know I'm getting a Free CE for PC but I also own a PS3 and I know that I read in their FAQ that if I want the 30 days that come with a new copy, I would need to get a PS3 version and link that copy to my service account that has the PC version.

Yesterday all went dandy (up to a point), I logged into my PSN account and redeemed my Early Access code, downloaded the game and logged in and made sure that PS3(PSN) was linked to my Square Enix account with the PC version (I didn't create a new service account, I just added the service to my existing account), everything was great on the PS3 side, unfortunately the PC side of things, I got the same message that you got but on the Windows Client.

Now my reasoning is that I only have access to EA on the PS3 and come Launch day, they'll give me access to PS3 and PC but for now I can only log on to the PS3.

I know your situation is different, but look at the bright side, you can still get a PS3 copy for $39.99 and get a $10 Credit if you get it through Amazon.com (I think that offer is still up), so that makes the game $29.99 and Yoshi-P has said those that have the PS3 version will get a free upgrade to the PS4 version when it becomes available.

I have an extra PS3 Early Access code if you want to at least be able to play on both sides during Early Access (BTW the code that I have is an European code, which needs a EU PSN account)

I played on both pc and ps3 in phase 4 beta on the same character too. I liked it but the thing that stops me buying ps3 version right now is that I would want to also buy a keyboard for the ps3. Do you guy use a keyboard or just the screen thingy whatever it is called to talk in game?

Will a normal usb keyboard work on the ps3 for chatting in game?

ETA: nvm I asked the google, and yay don't I don't need to buy a special keyboard (can you tell I am a complete noob when it comes to consoles? hehe)

Yea, I have a keyboard that I use on my PS3.  A while back I bought a 4 port hub that serves as a DVD remote, as well as port expansion.  Makes it a LOT easier to type in passwords and whatnot.

While true, I can get a PS3 copy for $30, I already bought a PC copy of the digital CE for $37.  If I'm going to get another copy, I'd rather get the hard copy Collectors Edition for the PS3.

The cost of the PS3 CE is $79.99, so basically I'd be paying almost that between the two "cheap versions", but not having the hard copy goodies.  I got the bargain CE because that's all I could afford, things are pretty rough for me right now, so $37 gets me the game + a few goodies, otherwise I'd had to pass.

Later when I have more cash to spend, I can get the PS3 CE hard copy, plus the fact that it will flip over to the PS4 version for free works out pretty well.
