Keyboard problems

Hey all,

Well I had a blast playing this past weekend even if I couldnt play with the guild, however I did run into some problems with my keyboard. Namely that after I play awhile my ability to use my keyboard stops it's normal functions. Ie I cannot type or use numbers for abilities etc. Even outside the game my keyboard will not work correctly until i reboot my cpu and then  I am all good. However if i start up playing again my keyboard goes wonky again after 30 min. Any Idea on what to do? I did search the beta site but I did not see anything. Thanks

I've never heard of a keyboard going wonky after continued use. I'm assuming it doesn't do this with other applications, only FFXIV. Do you have a programmable keyboard? If so, it's possible your program is switching between certain modes (game and general, for example) and might be hanging in the process. If it's just a plain old keyboard, though, that one's a stumper.

Yep only with FFXIV and it's a plain old keyboard. Ah well thanks for trying!

I think I have a similar issue.  Last night my keyboard started acting strange -- mostly when I was typing.  I was getting double letters and then gaps in letters.  Also, my toon seemed to jerk when using the W key instead of autorun.  I thought it was my keyboard batteries, so I changed the batteries.  The new batteries fixed the problem until about an hour later when it started happening again.  I figured the problem was with my keyboard, but now I wonder if it is related to the game.

Could be a driver issue between the game and Windows, for sure - although it's not like that has changed even remotely recently. Maybe a localization issue? I didn't have any problems but I use a "gaming keyboard" - Logitech G15.

What brand keyboards do you guys have?

What version of Windows?  I have Window 7-64 and am using an old Microsoft ergonomic keyboard that uses the PS/2 connector.  Its using the Standard PS/2 Keyboard driver and I am not seeing any problems.

You can try going into Device Manager, uninstalling the Keyboard(s) and if it asks if you want to remove the driver, select "Yes".  Then reboot and let it use the default Microsoft drivers, see how that works for you during this coming weekend.

No matter what keyboard people use, or connection type (Ps/2, USB, etc) there will always be a standard Microsoft keyboard driver and your keyboard will operate with generic functions.

I would try doing what Sekkerhund suggests just to clean out the "brains" for the keyboard setup in the computer.

I have had no issues with my keyboard, but I'm using the one that came with the system (an ASUS) I bought and I'm even still using Windows Vista okay on this machine.  Haven't changed it because it is happily working and I don't mess with things that work.  LOL!

Don't mess with Mama Bear, I might hug you too tight. =D

I think I will try reloading the driver like you suggested.  I also just bought a gamepad that I may try to use.  I tried it on Friday, but it was too unfamiliar and my toon just stood there looking dumb.  I may try again.

Yea, I had a PS3 code as well, so installed the game on the Ps3 this weekend and tried it out to see what it was like, especially with a controller.  Needless to say, I never left the Inn Room and went back to the PC and my familiar mouse + keyboard controls.  :)

I like things simple.  I use a simple keyboard, 5 button mouse and I don't make tons of keybinds or any crap I have to memorize.  I have almost 20 MMO games installed, and on average, I might play 5-7 of them during a week.  Its tough enough trying to keep track of the varying game mechanics, much less having to remember a ton of different keybinds and macros.

Well I did delete the driver of the keyboard but I may have found the problem; my G600. While tooling around on the internet this AM one of my dogs stepped through some cpu wires and almost took my mouse with him. I saved my mouse but pushed some random buttons on it in the process of keeping it on my desk and it KO'd my keyboard. And so I rebooted my CPU and it worked. So should I delete the drivers from my g600 or what? Thanks again for the help

Do the same: uninstall the Logitech drivers and reinstall new ones. Make sure you grab the latest download from Logitech's website.

More likely is that the G600 has a button set to lock down ALT or CTRL or some macro is getting stalled, since the Logitech software allows you to configure as such. You could comb through the settings for your mouse, but it might just be quicker to reset it entirely.
