How exactly do stats work? I know they change from class to class, but what about job to job? Will Paladin stats be based off of the stats in Gladiator and conj? Or will it have its own stats?

If you are asking about the 31 stats points you "spend" on your character sheet as you level up to 50, these are shared by both the base class and the job(s) that derive from it. So stats "bought" for gladiator also show up on paladin. Possibly, there are more stats that are added or shifted when you slot the job crystal for Paladin.
More tricky: stats "bought" for arcanist also show up for Summoner and Scholar -- which raises the question: MND or INT or something else? It's a min-max kind of thing, however. 31 points is only a few percent of what you'll have at level 50, and we don't even know if there's a soft or hard cap per stat.
So only the points of the "main" class for a job carry over (the class that requires the highest level for the job)? So conjurer and glad points dont carry over to paladin, just gladiator?
Here's some napkin math I did on another forum:
Base stats at 50 for the primary stat of the class/job are around the 230 mark on average. You get 30 points to allocate by level 50. That brings the base + bonus stat to around 260 on average. That's an 11.5% increase in stats. The actual difference that makes to your dps/hps is far less than 12%, but this varies by class and I have yet to see any spreadsheets for any classes on how much their primary stat affects overall output. Let's just say its half the stat gain, so 6%.
Well 6% that could be pretty significant. Maybe not life or death significant but noticeable none the less. But we aren't accounting for gear. At level 50, your basic gear nets you at least +100 to whatever your primary stat. It's usually closer to 130, if not higher after you shuffle stuff around and trim out the proper gear. So lets go with 130. That means that your base + gear put your primary stat at about 360 at level 50. The 30 bonus points now only amount to 8.3% of your total stats, bringing that generous output estimation down to about 4%.
So at level 50, with what will likely be mostly quest gear with a smattering of dungeon drops, those 30 bonus attribute points - under generous assumptions - account for 4% of your total output. As you get better gear, that number gets less and less significant.
And of course none of that takes into account the fact that you'll likely want to spread your points out anyway to gain either HP or MP, or both no matter what role you are playing.
Thanks Aalwein, good stuff.
Call me lazy, but I've been avoiding spending points for now. We know so little about stat caps (if any) at 50, and how much effort it will take to grind out 10,000 GC seals for a reset scroll.
I honestly forget about them. But I would wager a guess its safe to dump them all into your primary stat for at least the first 15 points. In all honesty, there just isn't enough points to really make a noticeable impact on your performance, so it's probably safe to dump them all into one stat or split them between your main stat and vitality or piety, depending on if you are DoW or DoM.
Yeah, I've been afraid to spend any of those points on my toon. Partially due to a fear of commitment, and also becuase I don't want to fiddle with them and have to get some sort of respec when I find out I did the wrong thing!
There is a reset button on the stat allocation window. I don't know how it works or if there's a cost, but I did see the reset option.
We're very used to F2P style games, where it costs extra to reset stats. FFXIV will have no micro-store, so I'm not sure how they'll handle the little things like this. I imagine, based on their other designs, that stat allocation will be something that we can fiddle around with. The stats are just enough to "customize" our characters, but not enough to make any difference in "gimpage" or "OP-ness" for a character.
Sekkerhund, Lakshmi stated in her post it is 10K GC seals for a reset scroll, which is a LOT of seals. Let alone I know you will want to spend seals on other things, too. We'll have to see if this is truly the case and cost still with live, but looks like GC seals will be the way to get these things.
Missed that. Hm.
