Very interesting.  The server stats will not be right for JP and EU as they are not really included in the sample respondents (since Reddit is not aimed at them specifically).  Other than that, it looks good.

Quick question.... is there anywhere for me to go to learn all there is about these classes and their abilities - what I have heard is there is a way to morph yourself into a class by taking two classes - or some such thing... so what I am mainly interested is the combinations that make "what end"....  I might level a second class or even a first class if the end class is what I am striving for but I am having a hard time finding a list of these - I haven't been able to play it at all and I'm waiting for Phase 4 as are a lot of you.  I strive not to be typical :)  (I've looked on the Wiki and the official site but I must be missing something).

I play an engy in GW2 as they were fairly much not too common when it launched since they were a tad difficult to level and had some unusual mechanics with their toolkits.  I don't like one or two buttons and prefer a wide array of skills to cycle through... so any input from all of you that have played would be much appreciated.  Thanks.

Morgiana, there are a few stickied threads here in this forum that will help answer your questions. If I can summarize: you choose a Class when starting. You can switch Class just by equipping a different weapon (once you get to level 10 or 15 in the first one you choose). So if you try a Class and don't like it, you can swap to something else. In a very basic sense, Classes are for soloing, as they will be generally good at lots of stuff - and you can mix (some) abilities from one class into another.

Once you get your Class to level 30 (and a specific secondary class to 15 - detailed in the sticky posts here) you can do a Job quest which awards you a Job - which can be thought of as a specialized, group-based role. You can always switch back to any Class (or any Job you have) anytime you're not in combat. So there is a great deal of flexibility in your character, and you don't (necessarily) have to roll alternate toons to try different classes or jobs out.

I find it interesting that 50% of players identify with either Hardcore or Casual as their playstyle in that survey so far.

I did see the one thread but couldn't help but wonder to myself - "Is that all of them?"   I just say this since every combination isn't shown - such as Arcanist/Archer or combining two magic lines.   But I shall continue to look though the rest of the threads.   (and I like large - kept me from wearing my bifocals :)  )

You can only combine certain classes by doing a soul quest.  Once completed you have access to the advanced job.

For example conjurer 30 plus gladiator 15 = white mage.

There is not a way to combine 'any'two classes, they are all preset.

LOL!  I'm not sure what he meant by it either, but a commercial in the states for Swanson's broth comes to mind.  Everything tastes better with Swanson's.

back to the original question, I know the stickied thread about classes and what combine helped me a lot.  Now the awesome thing is you can learn everything on one toon over time and just by switching weapons you get the appropriate skills available.  I know I'm going to do archer and conjurer to head for bard as my primary.  I'm definitely doing all the crafting stuff too in this game.  That alone will keep me busy for awhile even with all the free time I have.  =)  I might actually even try for a tank set up in this game, since I'm finding I like in your face styles when my hands work.  ;)

The other thing I like in this game is the well done lore to go with everything.  I love stories!  And the environs throughout.

Ack, I missed the "(Select all that apply)" line.  That changes my interpretation quite significantly.  With most players selecting one or the other, and a select special few selecting both.

Thanks Hex - I was hoping some hadn't yet been "discovered" but who knows what the future might hold.  Not sure what combination I will come up with :)

I call BS, many more will roll Arcanist because its new and because it "appears" at the moment to provide the most flexibility as far as Job options. Although that will not be the case as more jobs are released which has already been confirmed.

The picture of the class/job combos is from 1.0, i've seen lots of stuff indicating it will be different.

Can you link to the stuff you have seen that will be different please? I am interested, have not seen it yet.

In going through all the fan sites and wiki's out there I did see a quote from Yoshida where he stated there would be more specialized  jobs branching off such as the Scholar/Summoner does from the Arcanist even after launch but I didn't see any updated pictures.  So I would be interested also if there is an update.

@Morigana that will more than likely be well after launch and when the internal core of the game reaches a solid balance and stability....they are very careful to do everything right with this game and will be releasing content very slowly and steadily as it's perfectly prepared :D
