Greetings Everyone,

With the launch of every game we go through an adjustment period. It usually shows weaknesses in our structure and tools that can then be fixed and adjusted. No amount of preparation can ever allow us to predict how legions of people will use a tool.

One our website there have been many updates over the last few weeks. I wanted to take a moment to share a few of them.

Guild Wars 2 Profile Setup

When I first launched this I called it the Guild Wars 2 Account Setup, which kinda implied that we had some magical plugin that talked with Guild Wars 2. People would put their ArenaNet ID in and viola in a few minutes to an hour an invite would arrive. The original was a 4 step process which pretty much walked you through the whole thing anyways regardless. So we simplified it and renamed the console Guild Wars 2 Profile Setup.

Now users have 1 button to click which will walk them through setting their ArenaNet ID, Their Playstyle Preference, and adding their characters to the site. After they fill out the form their ArenaNet ID get's added to the Invite List that is displayed to the Elders and we invite you to where the site tells us to. If your Saighdear or above it tells us to invite you to Anu, if your under it tells us Gaiscioch. Once the Elder Invites you you'll get a message on your Command Center telling you, you have an invite pending.

Now the unfortunate part is we have no way of telling when you accept this invite as there's no actual bridge to the game system to tell us hey bob is now a member. So that message will stay on your command center until said bridge appears.

The Command Center

The Old Mini Profile as obvious as it was was getting confused with the actual player profile. So we decided to rename it and make it a bit more obvious and user friendly. We plan to add more neat features to this over time but for now all the crucial information you need is on this Command Center. Make it your best friend, add him to facebook, and make sure to bring chocolates when he's mad at you. He'll love you for it.

Structure Changes

Ahhh it's the panic button topic. I know a lot of people hate it when I do this but data doesn't lie. Every time we launch into a new game someone manages to find a way to prove our Structure out of date, confusing, and just not sufficient for the number of people we have on board. This is a good thing. It keeps us healthy, keeps us strong, and ensures that the Gaiscioch Way does not get lost in the mix. Unfortunately every time I do this people flip a gasket and rage all over me. That's to be expected. When I signed on to lead this family I know that when I make a decision it is mine alone and I burden the consequences no matter how vocal they are. Don't blame anyone but me for this if your going to blame someone. This sucks I know but in the long run it will be a distant memory. So Lets get to the critical stuff first.

Warlord Ranks... Yeah both of them

If you did not find yourself utterly confused by these then you must have an IQ in the 300 range... ;). We had 2 different things labeled Warlords. The Leadership Ranks in the family we're labeled Warlords a long time ago after some of our leaders who are no longer here took this a whole different direction as in "I am the boss listen to me when I''m talking to you!." So with the leadership title being mistaken as some god granted gift to man we had to rename it to something better suited for what they actually are. The Warlords were Event Leaders. They are people who focus their time on leading activities for the family. Originally we thought Activity Leaders sounded good but then the more we pondered it the more it sounded like kindergarten teachers or something. So to Celtic Mythology and Society we turned and that's when we found that Warlords or War Leaders as the celts called them were part of the War Council of Celtic Society. So now we've changed the Warlord Ranks in our Structure to War Council, which is usually comprised of Warlords.

So the second Warlord Rank was the suffix you earn from leading activities for the family. These are based off your victory points which differ from objective to objective based on how many people are required to take it. These will remain the Warlord Ranks and earning them will earn you a Suffix and once you've reached the Hall of Warlords (Rank 5) you'll be able to attend our monthly Warlord Meetings.

Active Member Time Requirements

It's become painfully obvious that people that have 1 month of Gaiscioch Experience behind their belt are just not ready and prepared for life as a Gaiscioch. The time required is just too short for them to adapt to the Gaisioch Way. Over the past month we've seen a lot of people ascend to the Saighdear rank and still have little to no understanding of who we are, what we do, and how we should behave. To counter this we've adjusted the length of time requirement for several ranks.

Updated Ranks:

  • Freiceadan moved to 30 Days from 14 Days
  • Saighdear moved to 90 Days from 30 Days
  • Gaisgeach moved to 180 Days from 90 Days
  • Seaimpín moved to 270 Days from 180 Days
  • Laoch moved to 360 Days from 270 Days.
  • Ard Tiarna moved to 450 Days from 360  Days.

The Remaining Ranks have been left untouched. It is our hopes that this will slow the progression enough that we see people better accept what it means to be a Gaiscioch better and that we can continue to promote our positive reputation in all things that we do.

Leadership Console

I know this has been a major point of friction, confusion, and he said she said. This largely again was my fault. I knew WvW was coming and I didn't break it out onto it's one Console. Well now I've simplified it quire a bit. This should cut back on confusion quite a bit and help ease the growing tension surrounding these objectives.

The Leadership Console is broken into 3 Types of Events:

  • Instanced Adventures - For Dungeons and Instanced Scripted Content
  • Instanced PvP Conquests - For WvW, sPvP, RIFT Conquest, and Warfronts
  • Open-World Campaigns - For Open-World PvE Activities.

Each Console will only allow you to claim objectives that are claimable in that style of gameplay. This should cut back on the improper use of the leadership console and simplify things for those trying to learn. On the Plus side this change allows me to finally build our Fame (PvE) and Glory (PvP) system that will measure a players PvE vs PvP involvement and give us some idea of where the family is spending the majority of their time. Most likely resulting in some badges on their profile and maybe some sort of Fame Rank or Glory Rank for fun.

Guild Wars 2 Active Roster Requirements

We are rapidly nearing 1,500 members which is our cap in Guild Wars 2 and to avoid colliding with it full force we've taken some measures to ensure that if we are to be 1,500 people playing Guild Wars 2 we will be 1,500 active participants of Sanctum of Rall. We've put into place 2 policies on our Family Policies Page. At this point we have no Alliance system and the 3 guilds we fill isolate us from each other. The website and RaidCall are the only links we have at this point so it is crucial to our survival that we make use of them.

  • 45 Days Gaiscioch Website Inactivity - Being there is no way to tell in game how long someone has been away we must go off how often you log into the website. Being you must do so to claim participation, participate in discussion and view the families event calendar this is an essential part of Guild Wars 2 membership. If a user does not visit the website in 45 days they will be removed from the Active Duty roster. At the point at which they return and relog into the website an invitation to rejoin the family in game will be sent. At no time does this removal from the Active Duty roster effect their standing or rank in the family. We understand people go away from game and welcome you to do so without risk of losing your hard work.
  • Sanctum of Rall Residents Only - Members who transfer off of Sanctum of Rall or do not call Sanctum of Rall will be removed. We are extreamly limited in space so we want to only reserve our namesake for those that can and will participate in our community events. Those on other servers can not do so and also pose a security risk.

In Closing

It's my hopes that we're working towards a slightly less confusing and more user friendly system and I understand if some of you may be upset with these changes. I assure you that these changes are necessary for the preservation of our family. I will continue making tweeks here and there as I receive more data.

Next up to be overhauled is our Calendar / Events system. I have already made a iCal plugin that will allow you to sync your calendar to your mobile phones, Google Calendar, iCalendar, and Outlook that I plan to enable once I have made a few changes to how our Calendar works. This should help keep people in touch and hopefully keep them in the loop on schedule changes and what not.

If you have any questions or comments please feel free to voice them, but realize, hostile messages are best sent in private. We aren't going to let people tear down the family publicly. This isn't their fault, it's my fault.

Please attend the Rift 101 and GW2 101 classes this Friday at 6 pm server. We will cover these items in detail and be answering questions you have about the website. This event is a joint Rift and GW2 activity, so it will be held in RaidCall only. If you don't have RaidCall, this would be a good time to get it. Ask in either game's guild chat if you need help with it.

I wholeheartedly support this change and perhaps I would go one step further and increase the Fellowship/Contribution requirements threshold. The reason for my suggestion with the increase in the Fellowship points is that (at least in my case) it's very easy to achieve the minimum requirement for the rank promotion, one night of WvW nets me a MINIMUM of 250 Fellowship points, with 3 or more WvW events a week that's over 750 points per week, without counting Dungeon running and Crafting. Well, my days active did not reflect my actual activity, but it didn't matter much because I only had 8 days to go and it would have taken at least that long to earn the fellowship for my next step. Now however, it seems I will be waiting another 3 months. Oh well, someone is always on the cusp when such changes are made. It just stings a bit more when that is the case.

I think the changes are great. Several of the items addressed were things that I had thought about before such as the quick progression up the ranks. Learning a new way of thinking about a guild and games takes time. Thank you to Fog and the rest of the council and event leaders for all your hard work

I agree with the time requirments for promotion. We have a lot of new people here and understanding the Gaiscioch way takes time, and we all make mistakes and learn from them. I'm not concerned about ranks, I just want to be part events and helping out the guild anyway I can. Keep up the great work Fog and all the Elders.

I have had no reason until now to make a post or to reply to one. I am not a real new member, nor by some of the time spent in Gaiscioch a very old member. I have no real ambition of becoming a high ranked officer in this guild, so I am not real concerned about time being needed to advance, knowing that sooner or later, no matter how much time I am in Gaiscioch I will be making a choice to either take a Credo or Not to, so as to hold myself in the position, that I can feel that I can help my fellow guildmates and still feel comfortable at whatever rank that I wish to maintain myself at. While my current rank does allow me access to the Officer chat Channel, out of respect for the time and all other requirements needed for the Officer rank of Seaimpin and above, I choose not to, because in my opinion, I have not earned that right compared to those that have put the Time in that is needed to advance to Seaimpin or above. Now all that being said, I am concerned, and to be honest surprised though, that the rank of Elder requires No time requirements in Gaiscioch, according to Gaiscioch Family Structure, under the Membership Tab. I can understand about the time and points needed to become members, officers, and members of the War Council. But I can not understand the lack of time needed, since becoming an Elder is up to a 100% vote of the Elder Council, in what looks to be one of the most important roles (if not the most important) in Gaiscioch. IMHO there should be a certain amount of time required in Gaiscioch to be eligible to be voted in by the Elder Council, again Not the points needed that are required by members, officers and members of the War Council, Just time. That time requirement would make sure that the Gaiscioch member being considered to be voted in by the Elder Council, has put in the time, to know about Gaiscioch and has Not only a firm understanding of the guild rules and conduct, but is also not only known by the Elder Council but also to their guild mates as someone that has the experience and Time in Gaiscioch to deal with issues that may come up, in the course of their duties. This is not a question of Integrity on the Elder Council's part what so ever and their choice of who is voted in or not as an Elder. And if an Elder (or the Elder Council) and Fog thinks that way, Fog and the Elder Council has my sincerest apologies. Just an honest question of, with every other Rank needing ( points And at the very least Time) why is one of the most important ( again if not the most important ) positions in Gaiscioch requires no time commitment, that I can find. Again my apologies to the Officers, War Council, Elders and Fog, if I have offended. Moksoon Gaisgeach na Fhiaigh

Hey Moks, your question is a valid one however the eldership is comprised of a certain psycological profile. The evaluation process is quite lengthy and its not a position people can "earn". We look for members the day they join that embody what it means to be a gaiscioch. I can't go into exacts otherwse people will "front" a personality that is not their own. What I can tell you is anyone that "wants" to be an elder will never become an elder. This is not a position of power and control. Its a position of sacrifice and assistance. Every one of our elders did not ask to become an elder. They were asked to become one and even with hessitation they rose to do what the family needed of them. That said it is very very very unlikely we would bring someone into the eldership that did not have a lengthy time investment in our family. Spartan was the least time "officially" spent with the family when he became one but what I can tell you is he was a huge part of our family in our "knitting club" who spent a good 6 months off the books wit our family before he was ever able to claim his first point of contribution. He spent almost all of his time helping people get their hall of monuments unlocks and later when I convinced him to join rift he spent his time helping lowbies and running people through dungeons. He was with us for over 8 months before we finally brought him up the the eldership. An elder must be selfless and willing to do the right thing for the family even if its no benificial to them. There's no place for egos there. I know some people want to help make this family better and soon you'll be able to do that in our monthly round tables. Every one of us makes the family who we are. When you log on with our tag above your head your writing our story. If you help people the will forever remember being helped by a gaiscioch. If you troll someone they will forever think of us as a bunch of trolls. You don't need to be an elder to make something happen in this family. The elders just keep it running, you bring the life into it. Sorry if this was all lumped together trying to type it all on a tiny phone keyboard. Can't wait for my samsung galaxy note II to show up :).

I was curious as to why I had been removed from the guild on GW2, but now seeing this post, I completely understand. I'm not on that often anymore just because of how sporadic things have been lately for me, and I would rather that another family member who wants to be in the GW2 Gaiscioch trio of guilds have my spot. However, I would love to still run along side with you guys during events, even if I may not have the Gaiscioch guild tag.

One of the issues, is having the Anu guild, with all of the higher ranks in it. A lot of people feel that the other two guilds are the recruit guilds, so they want to move ASAP into what they consider to be the "real" Gaisioch Family guild. You wonder about what neat guild events you're missing out on, especially when you look at the list of activities to claim, and realize that most of what is listed, you've never heard about. Sure there's the website and Raidcall, but all of the external tools are a bit overwhelming, even to someone familiar with the operations of Gaiscioch. Sadly, GW2 helps to promote this type of view, with their "overflow" system. You get stuck into overflow zone, with the leftovers from other servers, and when that "ready to enter" button pops, you're thinking "I can finally join my server!". Its like a separation anxiety type of thing. Without an alliance system, and 500 member caps, there's just no way to fix any of these issues. But, having the Anu guild, where all of the higher ranks and main members are, does help promote a feeling of "overflow "separation. TBH, even though I understand the logistics and design of why things are the way they are now, I kind of feel that way, as well and feel a pressure to try to gain points quickly, so I can join Anu. I feel a bit guilty about it, but ... I have to be honest and point it out.

I can only speak for myself. As of right now, I am 78 FHP and 32 days from Saighdear, and, presumably, joining Gaiscioch Na Anu (hopefully also learning how to pronounce that word). I'm currently in the Gaiscioch with the funny I (which I affectionately refer to as "con acento"), which I guess is "GSCH Overflow 2". In the time I've been with Gaiscioch, I can honestly say I've not once felt left out or marginalized by not being in Na Anu. I regularly run with members of all three guilds. They always have a /cheer and a /salute to spare when we run into each other out in the world. Thanks to RaidCall, I don't even miss out when other guilds are forming up dungeon teams or spinning up for WvW. The Elders even stop in a few times per day to keep an eye on things. I think the members of this guild do an admirable job remaining cohesive given the limits on guilds in this game.

The hard part Sekkerhund is the division of eldership per room of the house. The Reason we stuck the 3+ Month people in Anu is because they should know how to behave. We have very little eldership presence in Anu and expect that any Anu will behave as a Gaiscioch Should. Our Eldership is split between the 2 new player rooms. The main part of the family is actually the 2 entry ways. The Veterans know they need to use the site and raidcall for events and use them every day. If your not in the Guild Wars 2 lobby in raidcall you likely wont hear any groups being formed. Thats our makeshift alliance chat. The 2 entryways are where most of our elders live whenever they are on. Trust me it's a pain but trying to spread ourselves out too much will cause even more problems. There are plenty of Lorgair's in the Entry rooms and i've tried to get the warlords in all 3 so they can announce larger events. But really you need to at least listen in on RaidCall and use RaidCall chat if you want to find groups and get in them. Believe it or not the Entry Way's have a lot more going on than the vets. It's a case of the grass is greener. I have veterans wanting to go back to the entry way too. Fact is they are 3 rooms divided and balanced by population. If there wasn't a limit we woundn't have this problem. I want to keep our recruits under watchful eye so we can weed out the bad ones as best as we can. Originally I wanted only 1 recruitment room but being it filled up in 2 hours after launch a second one was needed. We can't do 4 as the guild system only lets you join 3.

Well, what I'm trying to convey isn't really an issue with "missing out", its more complicated, and I'm not sure if I'm doing well in typing it out. Its more regarding a recruit's exposure to tenured and experienced Gaiscioch members, that there would be in a "single guild" game like RIFT, versus being segregated into a couple of recruit guilds, with the experienced members in the "main guild". So, I'm not surprised that there is a problem with members reaching the Saighdear ranks and finding they are not ready for life as a Gaiscioch. Members in the recruit guilds just don't have exposure to the experienced members. Sure, there are a couple of Elders, but its not the same, if that makes sense.

I've been with the family for a bit over a year now. I've have never seen Fog do anything selfish. The amount of time you give to us is beyond amazing Fog. Thank you so much for everything you do. Thank you too for all the Elders and their heartfelt giving they do all the time. I love you all :)
