Aunvyrae's Templar Builds.

So Yeah I know I made a post already about Templar PVP builds, but that was more out of frustration to find something better than what I was coming up for PVP. This is going to be my over all build section for various stages in PVE and PVP and Group content. So with out making this post any longer I'll jump right in.

I want to first start with saying that out of all the classes in the game the Templar drew me in far more than the other classes for a healing role. So these projections of builds are by no means finished in any regards. They are what I'm looking at for the moment in what research I've done and what my experiences are telling me. Also, I'd like to give thanks to the many builds I've rummaged through on both Tamriel Foundry and the ESO forums. They gave me a lot of insight to what people are running with. Also I like to give a special thanks to those in this family that have given me insight through your various posts in my thread and others on these forums.

Races

as always, any race can do, But the top 3 choices I would pick are Breton, Altmer, and Dunmer. Now the only reason I put Dunmer up there is because of their fire resist for going Vampire. Breton and Altmer are by far better choices for Templar healing.

Stat Points.

For my stat points I went all health, Mainly because of PVP and I'm a Vamp. But if I wasn't going to be either of these I would lean towards a 20 Magicka and 29 health set up just to make sure I cap magicka.

Gear, Enchants, Traits and Mundus Stones.

  • PVP Healing - I'll most likely be going with a 2 heavy/5 light set up for this. This will add some mitigation to my self and also make Unstoppable last slightly longer. Roots and Snares are the first step to a death for a healer.
  • PVE Healing - With out a doubt I'll be going 7 light on this one.
  • Leveling - While leveling I'll be running a mix of heavy, light, and Medium to level all 3 armor types. The reason for doing this is because I want to be prepared for any role when Craglorn releases. I would rather just be full heals, but from what I can gather this may not always be possible.
  • PVE DPS - 7 Medium armor. it's a must no questions. it just works better.

Traits and Set Bonuses.

  • Healing - For your traits you want to go Infused (enchant strength increase) on your major pieces (Chest, head, and legs) and Divines (Increase Mundus stone effects) on minor pieces (Shoulders, gloves, boots, and belt). Set bonuses I'll be running is Seducers (spell reduction) and Mara's Gift (3pc spell resist, 5 pc spell reduction). To get the 5 piece bonus on Mara's gift both Restoration staves need to also have the set bonus. Try and get a set of VR jewelry set of Warlocks. It's not great, but it's better than our other options.
  • PVP - For traits you are going to use the same set up for for your armor. Set bonuses on armor with be Seducers (magicak cost reduction), Whitestrikes (absorb shield when less than 30%), and Magnus (chance to negate spell cost). Reason we aren't using Mara's Gift is because it will only be active while we have the resto staff active. So for the other time it's wasted and adds little bonus. So when the staff is active you'll only have 3 set bonuses active while in your SnB survival mode you'll have 4. Again you'll want to run the Warlock Jewelry set.
  • DPS - For your traits you will be going for Infused again on your major pieces and divines on your minor if you use the tower. If you decide to go with Shadow then use infused on all pieces. Set bonuses with be The Night Mother (on crit armor reduction for 5 sec) and Torug's Pact (3pc 100 armor, 5 pc reduces weapon enchantment internal CD 1 sec). For your weapons you will be using the charged (reduce weapon enchant CD by 30%) trait on them all. The reason why we are not using weighted is on DW there really isn't a reason to with blinding flurry, and it doesn't work on the bow. For some reason attack speed increases are not affecting 2 handed weapons.

Mundus Stones.

  • Healing Mundus Stones - There are 3 good choices here, Mage (magicka boost), Atranoch (Magicka Regen), and The Ritual (Healing increase). If you are soft capped in both Magicka and Magicka Regen then Ritual will be your choice.
  • Tanking Mundus Stone - Lord (Health boost) would be my first choice. If you are short on hitting caps with armor and spell resist then The Lover or The Lady would more than likely be better choices assuming that you can't reach soft caps with activated abilities in combat.
  • DPS Mundus Stones - The Tower (Stamina boost) is most likely my first choice now with the changes to my PVE DPS build. Shadow (Crit Damage Boost) would be my Second choice if using daggers other wise Thief would be better for those using Axes or Swords (when ever they fix it).

Enchants.

For the enchant section there is going to be a lot of information.

  • Light and Heavy armor I would go with a full magicka set up. It's going to be the driving force of almost every thing you do as a healer and if you need to a Magicka based tank.
  • Jewelry will depend on your current stats. For healing I would go for a mix of regen and spell reduction. I found it to be the best mix to help me sustain heals. Another option, as stated by Meagh, is spell damage on your enchants. It's more than viable with my healing set up. Balance is spamable if need be, but be careful it can get you in trouble. For tanking I'd go with Health jewelry with either Stamina regen or health regen. And for DPS you want Stamina and all out weapon damage. I made the build to have enough stamina regen abilities to it that it's not needed on your Jewelry.
  • DPS All Stamina for more DPS. Reason being is that light/heavy attacks make up about 30% (rough estimate) of your DPS. All that scales with stamina.
  • Weapons - I'm going to try and make this a bit more readable and organized. Healing- you want both healing staves with absorb magicka. These is par for the course in both PVE and PVP builds. Tanking- best bet would be to get the shielding proc enchant and either a bash or health enchant for you shield. DPS - For DPS we want fire enchants. After reading some testing down on TF it looks like Fire is the clear winner for DPS. I will do my own testing once I get all the passives and skill line complete to confirm this.

The builds.

I'm going to be linking a lot of builds. Only the first build (PVP set up) will have all points spent in every thing you will need for all set ups. The builds that follow will be only for each individual role they fill so you can see what I'm thinking for each set up. The reason why I'm doing this is so you can see just how many points you are going to need to copy everyone of my set ups for most situations.

  • So on to PVP. After being frustrated with the AvA recently I asked the family for some help with coming up with a better set up that I might enjoy. This is the set up that I came up with, thanks to Doreth on his insight on each ability and his experiences in PvP to get me on this track. I feel this makes a strong healer with the tools to help survive those moments you get focused. Also I noticed in this build I have Repentance picked up instead of Radiant Aura which is what I prefer in my other builds. I'll most likely be sticking to Radiant Aura even for PVP since it's another group wide utility that could be used to even help the scroll carrier on the run.
  • In PVE I'll be aiming to use this set up. I feel this has enough utility to it and strength to main heal group content. This set up will allow you to have all the tools needed for a Main healer as well as being able to throw some DPS if heals are not needed. Your utility spells can be swapped out as you feel the need for. In this build your Utility spells are Radiant Aura, Circle of Protection, and Siphon Spirit. I feel everyone in a group should have at least 1 or 2 damage abilities they can use.
  • Dw/Bow DPS I'm thinking of this set up. After testing my 2H DPS build I was becoming more and more disappointed in it. It just didn't perform they way I wanted. It had some really nice abilities and synergized well with some of the Templar passives. But it's main bonus is burst and then you where kinda just sitting there wondering what to do. So I went back to the drawing board and decided to do this build. It uses the Sustainability of a DW build that I feel is more needed for boss fights in PVE and well as a ranged DPS/Utility bar for those times where Melee = death. This is still a Stamina build. To play this you cast purifying light on the boss then use toppling charge to move in. Once in you will lead of with Blood craze followed by a Heavy attack then Blinding flurry followed by a heavy attack and repeat steps as needed. When boss gets to the execute range (25%) use Whirling blades>Heavy attack>whirling blades. Also if you get low on Stamina switch bars and pop radiant Aura for a 80% stam increase for the party, also can be used if your tank is low on Stamina. Other option if you don't want to switch bars is use Whirling blades to get some stamina back. For the Bow bar this is more of your ranged AOE and utility bar. It has a ranged interrupt if needed and as well as an escape tool to help get out of bad stuff.

Leveling Builds.

So yeah I'm going to make a new section just for leveling to give some tips and advice for leveling. Now this will all be based off of my experiences in VR content so it will work and could apply if you want to for sub 50 leveling.

  • Vampire 1h/Shield Build. So in this build you'll want to run a 5 heavy 2 light armor set up with all magicka enchants. Get lots of Spell reduction on your jewelry if you can because this build guzzles magicka like it's going out of style. For traits if you want you can go with a Divines/infused mix or go with reinforced. I went with reinforced since I don't have any nifty armor boosting abilities. Now to play this set up you want to cast Dampen Magic first, Then shield charge. This allows both shields to stack giving you a good amount of initial mitigation especially from those pesky fire casters. Now after that you want to hit your main target with pierce armor then cast Sweeping Strikes followed by a bash. Then cast Blazing Shields and hold your block key, when Blazing Shields explodes do Sweeping Strikes again then finish off what's left with shield bash (don't bother with using light/heavy attacks, bash is better.... till the nerf).
  • non-Vampire 1H/Shield Build. The same strategy applies as above. You are just switching out your ultimate with Solar Prison. Another option that I didn't put on the ESOHead link is Shield Barrier (Barrier morph in the support line). If I remember correctly this will put a barrier around you as well. This could give you more survivability when facing tough fights.
  • Vampire 2H Leveling Build. So, this build I just love. it can take a beating and it does decent damage. Not only that but it's fun. Set will be 5 Heavy and 2 Light all with Magicka enchants. Traits are Reinforced on heavy pieces and infused on light. When playing this build you will be using both Stamina and Magicka, but Magicka will be your main damage dealing pull. So how to play this set up, you want to Charge in on a target, then hit Vampires Bane followed with Brawler, a light attack (don't wait for the animation to finish we are going to use the animation exploit), followed by Sweeping Strikes, light attack, Brawler, Sweeping Strikes, refresh Vampires bane, and continue till dead. if you start to get low on Magicka stop using your Magicka attacks and just Cycle with a Brawler and Heavy attack. We don't want to run our reserves down just encase we need a heal. Also, if you are fighting a boss or tough pack Charge, brawler, then hit Vampire Swarm. This will keep you up in health so you can just Sweeping Strikes your heart out.
  • Non-Vampire 2H leveling Build. The overall play style and set up is the same as above. The only difference is the choices of Ultimate abilities. If you are high enough in the Fighter's Guild I'd go with Flawless Dawnbreaker. If not then go with Solar Prison.

So the 2H leveling build I'll leave up for people to see what I was playing with and talking about from above update to the PVE DPS build. I found it inefficient past VR1 rank content and found the SnB leveling build to be far superior (especially since I can take 3 mobs at 2 VR ranks higher than me with it).

So yeah lots of information and ideas. I have not finalized my tanking set up and want to get a bit more information before deciding on a tanking build. I'd rather avoid it all together on this character since I never really planned to tank with her. But what you plan and what transpires is often at ends with each other. Anyway I hope you all enjoyed my post and gave you some ideas on what you might want to do. I also welcome critiques so I can strengthen the builds even farther. Especially those who are more experienced with veteran content and have tried Craglorn.

for your pvp I would switch rapid manouver over,  you can actually cast that and still heal so keep you off snares and roots,  and it is often use when pushing into a keep, so you will want to have that with your heals...  and since its a stam skill it doesn't effect how many heals you throw out

Yeah I was thinking about swapping Radiant Aura with Rapid Maneuvers. This way I have anti-snares/roots on both bars and since in large scale I'll be mainly healing it would be better for the push as you said.

nice post! lots of good info and thoughts. One of the things i started to do is use spell damage jewlry to increase my damage / healing direclty whenever magicka won't be an issue (for trash mobs / solo questing).  The increased dps helps. - M.

Does Spell damage enchants increase healing? I've played games before where if it said spell damage it didn't boost healing at all. So I'm now curious. I might get a couple trash jewelry pieces and test this out.

from what I know it does,  can't confirm this though..  but from what I know your healing spells do use you spell crit chance to give you crit heals, so I can see how spell dmg will help bost your healing

have you had a chance to run your pvp build in AvA yet,  wondering how you are fairing with it

Yeah I ran it this last Tuesday, works great. I just need to get to 50+ so I can deal with the lack of magicka. It's way more efficient than what I was using previously.

Yeah I know spell crit does, but didn't know about spell damage. I'll be testing it out as soon as I can find some pieces that aren't enchanted. I'm waiting for them to fix Mage Light so I can put into my PVE build for the extra crit. Right now it's not working with healing spells other than regeneration plus morphs.

Added Leveling section based on some testing in VR content. I have to say this is starting be a great set up and lots of fun even through the dreaded VR grind. So far I'm having little issues taking on packs of 3 mobs at once. I think I even was able to take down a pack of 6 a couple times. Both leveling builds are sturdy and should give enough options to fit anyone's play style.

like the use of the shield in you lvling build, mixed with the  blazing shield is nice,  good way to play an even mix of stam and magika

I am doing a dps build using dual wield and Aedric spear. I need to find the Atranoch Mundus stone though. Once I feel like working n my crafting I will mostly stack Magika regen. As of right now I am putting all my points into health.

My secondary weapon swap will be a form of sword and board mostly for interrupts or in case I need to tank a mob from time to time.

personally as a healer,  and this goes mostly for dungeon healing...  the only max healthers should be the tank...  a lot of our heals are base on who has the lowest hp percentage...  so if you health bar goes down my heals will be going to you, and since you have so much hp it take a lot of my heals to bring you back up,  heals that often should be going to a tank or someone else....

now im not saying you can't...  just telling you if you plan on doing a lot of dungeons, your healer might not like you :)

I build with PvP in mind. And everything I have read thus far says you should put all your points into health and then your other stats come from your armor. And as you see, my non-dps seconday is a tank build.

which is better overall templars have low magik regen , so is it better to use magik reduced jewlery or magik regen jewelry ? or a mix  like 2 reduce 1 regen etc .

guess for the jewellery think you can do it either way....  think the important thing is to balance off what you need with either food or drink, mundus stone.... I have all 3 piece as health regen because my magika regen is already maxed

I use a combination of Both magicka Regen and Magicka reduction then I eat Magicka and health boosting food. I might change my food to regen if at VR 10 my stats are easier to cap out. But I've found that magicka reduction is better than regen in most cases since there is no cap for the reduction stat.

for your 2h dps build you have 4 high stam use ablities , you might consider swapping out maybe stampede for  temp charge like focused charge etc  so not so many rely on stam and  if you are low you can`t do any damage  a mix of say 2 or 3 stam and 2 or 3 magic cost to balance out usage so you don`t run out of 1 and have to many attacks you can`t do on your bar .

Spell Damage affects your class heals but won't affect heals coming from the Restoration Staff line (they are based on the Weapon Damage of your Resto Staff).

For jewelry right now I like Warlock neck/ring/ring.  It gives Max Magicka from the Arcane trait, Magicka Regen from the enchant, and the fantastic Magicka Flood set bonus.

The absolute best ocd min/max rings would probably be potion cooldown reduction.  Reducing your Potion cooldown from 30s to 15s and popping the best potions (Magicka, Spell Damage, Spell Crit) on cooldown will give back more than any other ring enchant - at the cost of burning through twice as many potions.

Yeah that's what I'm running is the Warlock set. I was thinking maybe the pvp set would be good, but they are aimed more for physical DPS than any thing. Stamina builds seem to be able to benefit from them a lot.

Yeah Spell damage is a viable option for rings/neck with a Templar healer vs other healers, but imo Warlock will give you the best bang for your buck right now unless as you said you feel like you want to chug potions and quite frankly I do that already on my Sorc. Rather not do it on my healer as well.

Myst, I'm kinda surprised you didn't comment on my builds like you normally do. I expected you to be the first one to say something since you play almost exclusively a Templar.
