Templar PVP Healer.

I think I'm at my wits end for coming up with a build I like. I've looked over a few builds I could find that looked promising, but they all seemed to be to magicka intessive to be able to cast reliable heals. 2-3 casts and I'm out of Magicka (though I'm not 50+, but still annoying).

I like my PVE build, but what my PVE build lacks that I would like to have for my PVP build is higher survivability.  Most of the builds I've seen do this, but they sacrifice their second bar to become basically a PVP melee tank and I don't want to do that.  Also with the way our guild plays in AvA most builds I've seen for PVP just won't work.

To give you an Idea this is the build I tried tonight and within an hr I just was completely unhappy with it and wanted to log out of the game. PVP build

So anyone have any thoughts on where to start so I can actually like my Templar healer in PVP? I think this is one of the problems I'm having in this game. Right now I'm not enjoying any of my builds in PVP other than my NB gank/solo roamer set up. But it's not great for group or even large group play.

At the end of each heavy attack with the restro staff, you gain 10% magicka back.  The way I do it is  keep a target that I regen magicka between each cast that uses magicka.

I try to stay above 50% and will only go under in case of panic and in panic I use the heal ultimate that is morphed into REMEMBRANCE to give the damage reduction during the cast.

I use 5 heavy/2 light armor for added survival.

I know how the resto staff works. The problem isn't when nothing is going on.... it's when all hell breaks loose and you go out of Magicka in 3 casts. There is no time to sit there and channel a 2 sec attack 3-4 times just to get enough magicka to cast 1 spell.

So after looking at the ESO calculator a bit I came up with this build. It's more or less kinda the same concept as the one above, but I don't see how I can keep survivability while still being mostly a ranged healer.  Possible PVP set up.

I put a few axtra points to show what else I had in my arsenal to help give me and others ideas on how to set up this PVP healer. Also I read what Myst said about healing in the other post and tried to implement some of those same ideas in this build even though he was talking more about PVE, I feel he still gave valid advice over all.

I haven't played too much in AvA due to lack of free time lately, so I'm pretty low level, but the biggest thing I found to help survivability is paying attention.  I was able to get out of hot spots and hide around corners for a second to avoid being hit and then dodging out and setting heals down.

You have to be pre-emptive and judicious with your healing.  This game is not a button spam fest for healing.  I set down my AOE ground target heal in doorways when walls/doors go down or where I see enemy red circles set down.  I start a long casting time heal when I am in a safe spot but those nearby are really hurt or even start the spell when I see that shortly the enemy will be amongst us so it goes off just as people are getting hurt.

Save the instant magicka suckers for emergencies and keep magicka from getting to low.  It is very rare that you can just stand in one place.  Of course casting the ultimate you have to, but otherwise I'm typically running from place to place.  I don't use stamina for anything but dodging and running.

BTW I am a pure light cloth wearer so no  heavy armor for protection (well I have one piece on just to get heavy armor skill up).

I do a lot of ava healing and I realise not everyone plays the same so bare this in mind this is only what I've seen and personal style..

Breath of Life : I love this skill, its hard on mana but you can cast it without having to target anything,  you don't even need to be facing the right way, they just need to be in range

Lingering Ritual: a good self heal, very poor for your group...  most of the time the range on it isn't big enough to really help and when you channel you start moving real slow making you prime target....

Extended Ritual: I like the choice with this one, a good dot heal plus negative effect removal...  what I like is that it is very easy for allies to see and to jump in the circle if they need health

Repentance: you might want to consider this skill,  doesn't seem like much but when the bodies start stacking up its and easy heal and gets you stam for either sprint, dodge or block

Healing Springs: can be harder to use but when you are either in a keep or helping siege's, its a good area heal plus magika return,  drop this with extended ritual and you get pretty high healing dots that can keep a group going...

now I know you are running a magika build,  but I would sugest adding more stam skill on your off hand,  this will alow you to keep going even if you magika is low and alloys your magika to build up

Invasion and Power Slam: these are 2 powerfull shield skill that can either allow you to escape or even kill your opponent, mix Repentance on that skill bar and you can regen you stam as you find bodies

now if you run alot of magika you might want to look in the mage guild line, the have nice skiils in there that can be mix with some good passives.

and well on a personal experience as a healer, if your group starts falling like flies, its not your fault, its just the your opponent is hitting to hard, and no much you can do even with all your heals going...

either way hope this helps out, if you want to talk more about build, or even how efficient some of the skills are in ava just send me a whisper in game, i'll be glad to help out

I would add that Unstoppable makes a great skill for a healer, your not using stam much so burning it to ignore knockdown and disable is great. Another option for burning stam is retreating maneuvers to give your group speed and and disable immunity.

I'm not max level with either of my Templars (max level is 34) so take this with a grain of salt ;)

I noticed that you don't have any of the Restoration Staff's healing skills. I find that they're a really nice complement to the Templar skills – Templar heals are more burst, while the Resto Staff has some nice hots.

In particular I find Grand Healing/Healing Springs and Regeneration/Mutagen/Rapid Regeneration work well as light baseline heals, particularly if there's light, widespread damage. Plus Healing Springs (which is a Grand Healing morph) gives you Magicka back for each person healed in the area.

I go 5 Light/2 Heavy for the Magicka regen, with the Heavy usually my Chest + Legs or Feet (mostly for the aesthic value as I like the look better than robes).

I change up my bars a lot on the Templar, but generally it looks something like

Mutagen - for a simple HoT with a handy secondary effect

Breath of Life - for burst heals

Combat Prayer - small AoE heal, group mitigation and damage buff

Purifying Ritual - cleanse and a small HoT

Unstoppable - self mitigation and cc resistance

Remembrance - AoE healing nuke

If you layer the HoTs and resist the urge to spam you can achieve quite a bit without going out of Magicka. Combat Prayer and Unstoppable will put you and nearby team mates over the armour and spell resistance soft caps to save on some heals. Hold block when mobility is not needed to get the Resto magicka return passive going and limit your own incoming damage. Also, get used to swapping abilities on the fly. Different battles or even stages of the same battle will require other abilities from time to time.

Thanks guys, it gave a me a few things to think about and I'm more eager to try out what I came up with for PvP. I'm going to put all my builds in one post so I'll just post what my PvP build is going to be over there. Make sure you guys check it out and tell me what you like or don't like in the build and any more suggestions. And Doreth thanks a bunch for breaking each ability I had with that second build I posted as a thought. I think most of my problems I'm having with the Templar in AvA is the fact I'm not in my VR's and the bolster system in this game really makes me wonder what they where thinking. They really penalize you for being sub 50 in this game for pvp I feel and I think that is where a lot of my frustrations are stemming from.
