No way to remove stored payment information from the ESO website.

Has anyone discovered a way of removing stored payment information or cancelling an account from ESO?

I requested the balance of my 30 days of "included" game time without having to subscribe or pay for an additional 30-days of play and received no response. When I tried to remove the payment information I used to purchase the digital version from my account, I couldn't find anyway to do so.

This is a serious matter as it means that the companies running ESO are not allowing us to control our private financial information. What that means is that in order for you to stop your subscription, you'll have to buy 30-days of game time, switch your subscription method (providing they will allow you to) to game code, put in the game code to pay for 30-more days, and then not put a second 30-day code in at the end of that thirty days.  But, even if you do that, your previous payment data will still be stored on their server. I have not yet attempted to phone in to the support line to see about getting my payment information removed from their server ad it might be possible to do it that way, but I thought I should warn as many people as possible that you may find yourself not being able to unsubscribe from the game should you decide or need to and in order to protect your payment data, you might be forced to go to your credit card company to change your card number to protect it in case the information is stolen. If Amazon, Chase and Citibank--not to mention a number of other large companies with much larger resources than the ESO companies--can have their servers hacked and personal information stolen, then so can the ESO payment company.

In case you might be wondering why I do not just go ahead with subscribing--I am not entirely satisfied with the game. I do not like the interface or the movement conventions and I have continuing issues with not being able to put anything into the additional bank slots that I purchased with in-game gold and which the bank space notation says I have. I wanted to give the game a fair try-out using the entire 30-days of "included" game time only to find out that I have to pay another $15.00 to get that 30-days game time. Essentially, all we received when we purchased the client was eight days of game time with the digital edition or one-day with physical edition. What we really received was one month free, when we paid for at least one month. That is an entirely different thing that having purchased thirty days of game time with the client. I suspect that the subscription clause was buried in the user agreement, but who reads those? I guess I will from now on. Guess I won't be playing any more--I just hope there is some way of removing my personal payment data from their server so I don't have to change the number on my account.

There is definitely a 'Cancel Subscription' option in the 'Manage Subscription' section, which can be found at the bottom right of your 'Account Summary'. I would assume that this would remove your banking details as well, and will have an immediate effect. I'm not about to test it, because I don't really want to cancel it. You can also change your subscription method in this section, including changing your billing information.

And LordMelchom is right, it's similar to what hotels do here in Australia when you check-in. They take your card and charge a 'holding' amount to it which checks if the card is valid, it's reversed in a couple of days.

It's also not uncommon for subscription games to have you set it all up ready for rollover once your free month is up. It's usually part of the Terms & Conditions that it is your responsibility to cancel the subscription before its due date to avoid being charged should you no longer wish to subscribe.

This is from the Privacy Policy "We will retain your information for as long as permitted for legitimate business purposes. If you wish to cancel your account or request that we no longer use your information to provide you services contact us at privacy04@zenimax.com. We will retain and use your information as necessary to comply with our legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements." I would suggest that if you don't feel confident that they will remove your billing information from their systems when you cancel your subscription that you contact them and request that it be deleted fully.
