Tutorial: Treasure Chest Hunting - What to look for

heya guys!

Okies.. So first off, I want to say that this tutorial may contain possible spoilers if you have the maps from preorder...I thought it might be helpful to show those who haven't gone treasure hunting screenshots of what they are looking for. I know with my first map in beta, I had no idea what to look for as I followed the map.. would there be an X on the ground? a sign? would I be able to move a rock? I am one of those players who does not like to spoil my surprise in-game with guides and such.. as half the fun is figuring it out! so with little to go on but the actual map I found myself randomly clicking all over Tamriel. Hopefully this guide will help others avoid that frustration.

Here is a stonefalls treasure map from preorder...  (reading further will spoil your hunt if you're after this)...

Of course you are going to match the map using significant background images. What caught my eye here was the tree and waterfall. It wasn't an exact match but the landmarks were close enough for me to look about.

All the maps that I've solved have ended in the same way... there is a pile / mound of dirt at the end where you'll dig.. This is what you're keeping an eye out for.

If this was a single player game any help would be a spoiler but as a roll play game it stands to reason friends and family would have something to say about anything that matters to you (or your character)!

You didn't name the location and give detailed instructions on how to get there and I'm left wondering how do you dig. :)

Actually I don't remember :P  The best thing I got from a chest so far was a blue quality two-handed mace. I think that I was about level ten, so it was quite nice for a few levels :)

On actually digging the chest up, you'll be able to use your default interaction key ('E' for most).

blue weapon = not too shabby. Was there any gold?

my experience so far:

• Bleakrock : green and white
• Bal foyen: green and white
• Stonefalls: green and white
• Deshaan: 2 blue (so happy didn't check for green and white)

I've had mainly green drops from my Treasure Maps, with gold - 3-4 greens and some gold.

I've found the gear useful because I'm not crafting armour and weaps, so this is an easy-ish way to get better gear until I'm able to trade for it.

Anyone ever get a treasure map (not from CE) ? From weekend beta until now, I never get any treasure map. I did get several motifs though.

Botak, I found one in a drawer somewhere (at least I think that's where I picked it up, it's all kind of a blur now - I really should note these things down!).

I have gotten three or four in drops and loot.. but I am slow leveling because I search every drawer and sack for provisions :P

I have gotten 3 treasure maps for Stonefall which did not come with the pre-order - just as loot from chests and from a desk I think.

I have only found one of the piles of dirt and it was by accident since I had the map in my inventory.  Before I nteracted with the pile of dirt I reopened the treasure map and looked around.  I would never have found this spot except out of pure luck.  I recognized nothing on the map from what I was looking at around the dirt pile.

I did get a blue bow for which I jumped for joy as it is my main weapon and much better than the one I crafted for myself - and some gold.
