My Journey To RIFT

By: Lothrich

OK, I found the blog button it's all over now! LOL.

Brief Background:
I played WoW on and off (mostly on) for about 3 years. I played a HPally and Resto Druid for most of that time. The mechanics of the classes evolved overtime and with all the hate for pallys I decided to just stick with my druid. Remember when you could run Kara with nothing but pallys? lol. Wrath of the Lich King came out and it was fun but it was pretty easy. I played that entire time up until Cata. By that time I was burnt out and lost complete interest in WoW. So onto DC Universe Online I went! DCUO was a great game but had very little content after the level cap which is 30 and the production team was absolutely garbage. By the 5th month SOE fired everyone that was in charge. This unfortunately was too little too late and I bailed shortly thereafter.

So here I was in between MMOs and everything that I tried I didn’t like, LOTRO, EVE, etc. etc. I had stayed away from RIFT purposely because everywhere I read the authors always had the phrase “wow clone” somewhere in their article. This was a major turn off because I have seen that movie and it was enjoyable but predictable. But eventually I did some of my own research and decided that the game didn’t look to bad and was going to give it a try. So I went out and bought the collector’s edition.

RIFT Thoughts: It has a lot of the same elements that I liked about WoW except for one thing in particular that I think sets it apart from WoW and that is the character classes. I love the multiple load outs the different souls to choose from and the fact that anyone can fill a particular role with the right soul combinations. I am now just finishing my first month of play with RIFT and I have a Level 17 Mage, 30 Rogue and 16 Warrior. So far I am digging the rogue more than the others but I am not entirely giving up on leveling something else up. Unlike WoW I am not power leveling glazing over on quests like I in WoW. Instead I am taking my time and learning the lore and the little quirks with the game and I am enjoying it!
