ESO B2P Summary / Thoughts

By: TernieLaBiscuit

I'm not transcribing verbatim, but rather watching the ESO Live Special Edition and commenting on sections as they cover the material.

The first 10 minutes was a video of something. What that was, I don't know, but two guys were fighting, the winner walked off then a chick stabbed the loser like it was her finishing move or something.

Then comes the reasoning as to why the subscription fee is being removed. It really comes down to the console editions being released. No one was going to pay for a monthly sub on a console, in addition to a sub on a game. I think that's partially why the console release was delayed a year. They are calling ESO Plus a way to get "premium" access to content.

Anyone wanting to play on console will get everything up to 1.6 included with their purchase. IF you are a member of ESO Plus, then you will also get the DLC and other premium updates.

The game as it currently is will stay as it is. It's not being taken away from. The game you are playing today is what you will be able to play when the games goes B2P.

Types of DLC announced include new areas. Orsinium, a mostly snowy area was shown. Clockwork City, a new Dwemer-esque area. Mephala's Realm, a very Daedric appearing area, wtih scary spiny scorpions, even scarier Daedra Spiders, and frightening Atronach monsters. Abah's Landing, which looks like something out of Alik'r Desert.

These new zones will not be for leveling, it will just be a new area to play with any level friend you may have. New stories and new areas to explore, which you can buy separately or as part of the ESO Plus.

Well, I like that there's a variety of mounts, pets and costumes that you are able to choose from with the Crown Store. (All purchase will be applied to the account -- NOT character, and will not count towards inventory space)

Costumes include Blacksmith, Chef, Wedding Dress, Stealty Rogues bundle pack, Woodland Scouts costume bundle, Draugr Polymorph costumes, Royal Court Jester costume, Tribal Shamans costume bundle, Armored Knights costume bundle, Black and Maroon dress costume.

Mounts include Banded Guar Charger mount, Dapple Gray Palfrey horse mount, White Mane Horse mount, Tessellated Guar mount, Piebald Destrier horse mount.

Pets include Alik'r Dune-Hound dog pet, Striped Senche-Panther pet, Striated Pony Guar pet.

Convenience items include health, stamina and magicka potions (not as good as player crafted potions). Repair kits and soul gem packs will also be available, and will be no different (or any better) than what you can get in game.

"The philosophy of the Crown store is for customization, NOT a pay to win system. The game is still going to be the best place to get the best gear."

The press release officially states they are not "Free to Play," which is actually true. They're going Buy to Play, meaning you get access to additions to the game in different ways. In the panel, it was said there would be multiple ways to gain access to DLC, so whether that means buying with Crown points is an option, outright buying DLC is an option, I don't know.

Incentives to keep subscribing, according to the panel include: They believe in a membership service. ESO Plus is a way for people to be a preferred member. You will get 1500 Crowns every month, in game bonuses 10% XP, 10% faster crafting research times, 10% more gold acquisition for quests. You will also have access to all DLC as an ESO Plus member. Instead of getting a "loot crate" every month, the Crown points are a way to customize what you want with your monthly stipend. This system is catered more to those who don't have a lot of time to play.

For the current subscribers, you get a "running start" in the Tamriel Unlimited perks system. Current subscribers will get 100 Crowns for every month you have subscribed, 500 Crowns for purchasing the game, and 1500 crowns for every 30 days post March 17th of subscription that you will get. Crowns and items in the shop CANNOT be traded player to player, or for gold.

ALL OF THIS CONTENT SHOULD BE ON PTS NEXT WEEK. The main game will be as it is right now until March 17th, then update 6 will be implemented some time after that.

Past this point, most of the talk was about how the game will work on consoles. For those who care, you are able to transfer your PC account to a console. No exact date for account transfer has been verified at this time. HOWEVER, the console version servers will NOT be playable with the PC version servers. You will play with specific console players only (whether you choose XBox One or PS4). Betas for console will happen, and before the launch date. It's expected to be a large beta, sometime in April.

One big difference was the story of the tutorial. It shows Lyris getting trapped by pinion anchors, then getting sucked into a portal. Then, The Prophet shows up and the story continues from there.

The pickpocketing and fences were touched on a bit, showing how the Justice system will work. NPCs will be able to be killed. (I hope that I get to kill bards. I'm sick.... SICK of hearing Red Diamond). Just as in Skyrim, if you are caught, you can either pay your bounty, get arrested or kill the hunter (which will raise your bounty).

One other thing of note, the game rating as changed to M for Mature, or PEGI 18 for those overseas.

After this point, questions were being answered, and I updated the sections based on the information given from the answers.

I'm disappointed that there isn't a Camel mount yet, or a Wamasu. I hope that those show up at some point. I'd also like to see pets of animals that roam around show up. I hope that this helps the PC community gain some players, and I hope that the excessive LAG on Cyrodiil servers is addressed as well.
