Halvor's Call To WAR

By: Halvorr

Halvorr Grimbolsson, son of Grimbol Mordinsson, son of Mordin Dorinsson, son of Dorin Alriksson, son of Alrik Kazransson, etc, etc, etc...

Born in Wissenburg, Wissenland. Halvorr quickly grew tired of the lands of man, and ventured back toward the mountains. He eventually found a home in Ekrund among his fellow dwarfs. Halvorr received word that greenskins were running rampant in the tunnels under the dwarf hold there. He remembered what great joy and excitement he had gotten from thumping snotlings as a child, and quickly joined the ranks of the Ironbreakers. He quickly found that the job was not only very rewarding, but that he had a natural aptitude for it as well.

Halvorr was quick to stand out amongst his fellow Ironbreakers, and made a name for himself as being one of the best of the new group of recruits. Halvorr's dedicated service made him popular with the longbeards, and kept his pockets filled with gold. Much of which was then spent drinking ale with his kinsmen.

With the well earned respect of the longbeards Halvorr was recommended to help escort a diplomatic mission to the Empire. A young Runepriest named Davrik would soon be traveling to the Empire on a diplomatic trade mission, and needed protection to ensure his safe arrival. The greenskin menace was continuing to gain in numbers, and not many could be spared for the escort. Halvorr and another Ironbreaker were offered the honor. Although, he had no desire to leave the mountain he had shed blood to protect, his sense of duty and honor kept him from declining.

The long journey to Altdorf was frustrating for Halvorr. They had encountered several bands of greenskins along the way and had to evade them without being noticed. All the sneaking around seemed cowardly however two Ironbreakers and a Runepriest were no match for a typical band of Orcs and Gobbos. All the evading of roving bands of greenskins added weeks to their journey. Soon their ample supplies grew thin. Even the Ale had run dry. In true Dwarf fashion the trio pushed on.

Upon entering the Empire they left the bands of greenskins behind, and were able to restock some of their supplies at various patches of what manlings called civilization. It was obvious why the empire wanted Dwarf weapons and armor after seeing was being peddled by empire craftsman.

One evening, the green light of the chaos moon shined down upon a small inn. Inside the three Dwarfs relaxed smoking their pipes and drinking what manlings claimed was ale. suddenly there erupted a cacophony of bestial noise from a source unknown. From the view out the tavern door, sleepy pheasants emerged terrified from their shacks. Men at arms donned their armor, and weapons, making their way in the direction of the disturbance. The dwarfs quick to make up for the avoidance of battles previous, dropped their steins of ale and rushed out of the inn. Joining the fray, they discovered what horror had been the source of the commotion. All about them, creatures half beast and half man rampaged through the small village causing death and destruction. The two Ironbreakers wasted no time in drawing the attention of the beastmen away from the villagers. Meanwhile the runepriest began to heal the wounded warriors. Halvorr easily drew the attention of several of the beastmen. Easily parrying their blows. The beastmen were so enraged toward Halvorr they didn't notice the men at arms surround them. The men at arms made short work of the beastmen with the help of Halvorr, Bokar, and Davrik. The tide of battle quickly turned to favor the village. Even the unarmed villagers ran to grab pitchforks, and makeshift weapons to join the fight.
