Death of a Video Card

Fog and a few others heard me having fun with this last week.  Well, it finally gave up entirely.  It works fine if you can get it started.  Unfortunately whatever fried does not fire it up correctly or make the VGA Port give the initial signal.  Anyway, have a new one order with same port setup to go with my monitor and card slot.  It is actually a minor upgrade from the one I had.

I should not be stuck with this 2005 model of slowness laptop come Friday some time.  Until then you won't see me anywhere.  May or may not hop on vent since it is this laptop I use for that.

If I get it early and installed by some great miracle I would be up for the Thursday night idea Fog posted about for the PTS Conquest.  Though don't count on me, unfortunately.

Well, I did get the new video card and I was sure due to the deal of cleaning things up that it had to be the card. Well, the new card does the same thing and I can't even make it install the drivers and stuff right. So something on the motherboard is not making the computer talk to the video card slot. I can use a real low grade VGA built on the motherboard, but it sure isn't running a game. ;P Since I don't have the diagnostic tools to finish this job, it is off to someone who can. Hopefully it won't cost me an arm and a leg. I already spent enough money fixing other things, as well, this week. HA!

One thing I can suggest, is checking that your power supply voltage matches or exceeds the card's requirement. Mine, for instance, requires a 750 watt power supply, so I bought a 850w to be safe. If you don't have enough power it won't get chatty with the motherboard :)

Sadly it doesn't talk to the old card right either! It's like, "There is a slot for a graphics card on this motherboard? Really?" The old card did not even require an extra power plug in and there is enough for the new one from what little info they gave me. At least the pdf file told me more than the little setup booklet that is in ONLY 22 languages! HA! The company for my computer and actually the old and new cards as well helped out as much as they could. It did help me get the computer to at least let me install the drivers and utilities for the new card. But they are at a point where they would have to see it to diagnose it. Considering they are far away and there is a good place locally where I can diagnose it for 20 bucks and have that waived if I have them fix it. I talked to them today but they were closing early for the holiday, so making an appointment next week with them. I can at least surf the web and do email until it is fixed on here faster than the old clunker laptop that is relegated to my Vent comp. ;) I tried Rift this morning with the onboard graphics - HA! I had to put it on the lowest settings so it would even keep up with 40wpm typing. At least I got to bust on Lillan before I logged. I should go try the old Guild Wars just for something to do when not wanting to read or whatever. I've already climbed up a shaky ladder to thread a line through a pulley on our flagpole. That was 'fun'.

so u got urselv a new gpu and it still doesnt work right?and everything is connected to the mainboard as it should, power connector all in?do u have the option in bios on automatic?^do the fans work on the gpu ?no beeping or what so ever when ever ur start ut pc?did u try another pci express slot(if u have another one ofc)

Figured it out when pulling it back out to check some things ..... The dang power cord was not plugged in all the way! Go me and MS impacted hands. I'm like, "DUH! The clip needs to be hooked in to say it is all the way there." Wasn't sure I would get it either considering my hands are not good for such things anymore. Though after getting it running, I tried Rift and managed to crash Rift to the point something else messed up with the graphics settings. Seems alt-tabbing out flips things out now when it did not do that before when in full screen mode. Anyway, enough with my rustiness on PC stuff and the idiosyncrasies that never seem to end with system changes. I's got things fixed so I can play now!

yeah some games dont like to alt tab also try get always the latest drivers for ur card
