Rift: Full Redownload - *final salute*

Oh well, 

Although I still have 2 months left on a one year subscription, I've decided to leave Rift for good after having already taken a 2+ month hiatus due to overexertion of my brain.  I had planned on coming back until GW2 came out but after attempting to log-in / update and the patcher stating I need to do a full redownload I have decided to part ways for good.  The decision wasn't easy but being on a DSL line way out in the country that at best does 50kbps/sec at times, I decided the time was right.  I do not wish to have another 3 day download.

However, some good news.

Wife and I both finally got teaching jobs at a same school in an actual city. Although, I'm only teaching part-time as I work towards my MA, we will finally been in a town and not 1.5 hours from everything. (1hr 40minutes to Walmart, McD's, etc etc).  

The town we're moving to is still a small community with that "everyone knows everyone" feel, but it's within 15 minutes of a larger city.  This excites us as it is a great opportunity for us and better opportunities for our son who will be 2 years old in June.  

So I would like to say a fond farewell to everyone I met / played with in Rift and I await to see folks again once GW2 releases!

Hey.... Good Luck with that move and the new jobs as well as working on the MA. My daughter just finished hers and it really took up a lot of her time with work and her kids. I can't wait to see everyone back in GW2.

Um if you haven't played in the last month that's not a full redownload. That's the new engine. They rebuilt it. It makes you download about 10 gigs but after that the streaming patcher let's you play while the game downloads patches. Its big but its worth it.

In fact this patch was built for players like you that have slower connections. This allows you to play the game while it patches in the future minimizing your down time. It also has many improvements. My low end pc plays the game great now and it's a duo core with a Nvidia 8600 GT in it.

Going to miss you. Good luck and have fun. Sometimes change and a break can help. I know burnout occurs as well as real life. Congrats on you both getting teaching jobs at the same school! That's awesome. I know you'll be a great teacher. You taught me a lot in Rift in a respectful manner with all my mistakes. LOL See you in GW2! Kittara

The new patcher actually downloads very little. It says 10GB at first, but what it does is ocnvert the files ALREADY on your PC to work with the new patch method. It doesn't download 10GB at all. If you have a very slow PC, it may indeed take awhile. But to give you an idea, start to finish, it was 5 minutes on mine. Likely similar on yours! In any event, the reasons we present for leaving an online time sink are often only the catalyst that brings forward our disenchantment, lack of interest, etc. that lies beneath. So, despite the patcher being a very fast issue to overcome, the rest likely remains for you. Good luck wherever your path takes you...and if it brings you back to us, well...we'll be here. Probably. :)

Aw RB... /cry. And I haven't seen you in the other game either. I've got 4 level 12-15s now in Coruscant/Drumond Kaas and nary a sign of you. But seriously the dl is pretty easy and you can play while it works in the background.

Grats on the job and here's to a reasonably easy move. I've moved a lot and that can be a time consuming headache in itself, let alone getting reconnected to the world at the new place. ::chuckles:: Oh and I'm with you on the out in the middle of nowhere DSL. At least mine will actually average 250KBs for downloads, sometimes better on good days. Though as everyone states, the new download method really helps even on the slow DL setups. Of course, with a move and getting ready for new jobs and going to grad school, I'm sure your summer is going to wind up pretty busy. See you in GW2!
