3rd Faction in RIFT coming soon? - Please Read

Getting Started on the PTS Shard

Now, if by chance 1.9 or 2.0 bring an optional 3rd faction. The plan is to move both rooms of our house into 1 on the new faction. I know this is going to cause some heartache and I know we'll be saying goodbye to a lot of friends who decide they want to stay Guardian or Defiant, however if we are to survive in RIFT we will need to stabalize our house under one roof. The split faction approach was initially to create community events for both sides but has been such a success we've flourished to be the biggest guild on each side of the ball. This however has spread us real thin. 

I really want to see our family thrive in RIFT and it is with the elders support that if given the chance we will be moving everyone under 1 roof on the new faction IF it is put into game. 

If what we get is what I suggested months ago to Trion it will be a faction of people that believe both the defiants and guardians are wrong, that the only way we stop our destruction is by pulling our resources together and working as one. A Revolution as such which splinters off a group of people who want to restore Telara to one nation even if it means overthrowing the Guardians and Defiants. I just hope they give us a cool name ;).

Anyways I just wanted to put this out there before the rumor mill starts blowing things up and throwing the truth out the window.

They'll need to implement this sooner rather than later in my opinion. Offer some kind of incentive for people to come back once they've finished with Diablo 3 and Guild Wars 2.

I think thats why it's sounding like the 1.9 patch and not the 2.0 patch. They know they need to do something drastic to counter the population drop that is guaranteed from those 2 titles.

Hmm. I'm not too crazy about moving to a different faction. it'd probably wind up me moving only some of my characters and leaving the rest of mine on guardian faction.

That's kinda what we expect Flarewind, but if the peace of mind of the family we need to have a house united.

I am so excited about the third faction and bring the whole family together!!! AWSOME

Might help me get some interest in the game. Right now I can take it or leave it. I get on now and then but mostly to fill marketplace orders and I did have time to do crifting again last week. I did mess with a lower level Defiant for a few hours this week. My sub is good through August 15th - longer than I thought it was. =) So going to play it by ear and see if by then if I want to resub. I really like doing things with the family, but can't seem to find enough desire to be a regular on the game at the moment. So hopefully this gives a change of pace that helps that.

I'm looking forward to a change. I've found that it's getting more and more difficult to get in game. My d-side char has maxed out most factions and my g-side isn't that far behind and I started working it not that long ago. Kittara

A new third faction sounds fantastic. Good chance to unify this gaming community. I have some questions: Are they going to implement faction change? most people have invested a lot of time on their 50 lvl characters. Rerolling could prove be "painful". Are they going to release new races for the new faction or use current ones? Anyways, I'm not sure what impact a third faction could bring on gameplay and story aspects of RIFT.

we'll know more soon everything atm is smoke and mirrors until theres official notes we wont know how it all works.

This news kinda seems interesting. I hope it is a way for everyone to join all the same faction :) I decided to once again install the PTS.. It was weird seeing all the old equipment from back when I stopped playing (a couple months after launch) I can;t even find that equipment on venders it seems heheh

I kinda like these new ideas. It's going to be interesting to read the lore and story lines. I think this will be a great move for the family.....moving all under one umbrella, so to speak.....

well my guess is we choose a new faith and be reborn in a new faction body ;-) re-rolling and losing all gear, notoriety, PA lvls and crafts is not an option for me...

It's early, I know -- but this seems to me like it will simply result in one large faction on most servers *IF* they allow current character conversions. From this thread, Faeblight seems headed there already! I doubt that Gaiscioch is unique in having a significant number of opposing faction characters. How many times have you been looking for someone to do something with ... and wondered if we could just group with our Defiant guild? I'd think most large guilds are alike in this way. PVE is all too frequently about finding people to group with ... raid with ... etc. High rank PVPers who already know many of their skilled opponents would be strongly tempted to form larger elite PVP guilds. IMHO, this seems destined to give a strong benefit for those in the "third faction." Of course, that assumes there's some conversion of existing characters into the new faction. I'd think Trion will go that route, electing not to spend much in the way of development/graphic resources to create a third faction quest line that duplicates the others for levels 1 - 50. Those resources are needed elsewhere! If I'm wrong, well ... it will be an extreme choice to move any guild to the third faction, forcing a new grind for all members that want to remain in such guilds. It's all speculation, of course. Time will tell. Eventually!

According to http://community.riftgame.com/en/2012/05/14/introducing-conquest-test-the-latest-in-rift-pvp-on-thursday-517/ , it would seem that both Defiant and Guardian are going to be inconsequential, resulting in the three factions: The Dominion(the ram), the Oathsworn (the lion) and the Nightfall (the raven). So since there's not one single new faction, which would we be joining? I feel like they'll only use these factions for pvp purposes, and leave the regular pve areas as is.

I have been absent since July and the birth of my daughter, tossing around resubbing to Rift, or waiting for GW2. A third faction might sway me back to Rift. I feel so out of touch with the guild and game, i may just make a new toon.

Raven would be the best lore wise.

I think we should have Thursdays event on the test server

Barring the chaos that work has been lately, I'll be there.

"Three faction PvP and the essence of open world combat will soon storm upon the shores of the Public Test Shard" Further reading makes this seem like a big WF - reminding me of the RvR in DAoC (3 factions, open world(ish), resources, control points etc) Highly doubt (from reading) they will actually ADD a 3rd faction to the PVE side of things any time soon. just my $0.02

Guess we will figure it out soon enough. I obviously overplayed during the winter because I've got too much of the PvE figured out and each class seems easier to play despite trying ones not my play-style. I really never aspired to have the bestest gear or hard core raider though I love the end game content. I will only do it with family when my rather random but open schedule has me there. =) Heh, I don't even aspire to the world event stuff - it's like more bling to me, but I know people that love it. Different strokes after all. And I gave up on warfronts due to not needing to deal with what I kept getting with attitudes. If I wanted to deal with that I would willingly take my nieces when they need naps and WON'T! I just hope this is something that helps the family in general in the game. It needs a breath of life because I'm not the only one in the family slowing down on play here, let alone stopped for awhile.
