The Origins & Self-naming Of The Bloodshyrke Of Gaiscioch

By: Bloodshryke

To know me it may help you to know some history about how I selected my name after being returned to Telara by the divines.

For context it helps to know my passions from before my original death. I was a student of nature, and birds prey specifically.

The Shrike is the family name for a population of several related species of birds, and that of the largest genus, Lanius, is derived from the Latin word for "butcher", and some shrikes were also known as "butcher birds" because of their feeding habits.

Shrikes are medium-sized birds with grey, brown, or black and white plumage. Their beaks are hooked, like that of a bird of prey, reflecting their predatory nature, and their calls are strident. Shrikes are also territorial, and these territories are defended. They make regular use of exposed perch sites, where they adopt a conspicuous upright stance. These sites are used in order to watch for prey and to advertise their presence to rivals.

Shrikes are perhaps most known for their habit of impaling the bodies of their prey on thorns.

The Blooshryke of Gaiscioch will be ever-vigilant, ready to defend our territories against all incursions, including those of faith, and will stand ready to impale all foes with the projected thorns of my bow.
