Gaiscioch Community Notes Issue 8, 2018

Cead Mile Failte!

Happy Birthday GmaFog! For those that didn't know my Ma, GmaFog is about to embark on a real world adventure to Rwanda. Everyone be sure to wish her luck. She won't be running any events while she is overseas as she won’t have access to the internet, but she will be here in spirit and return full of stories of her adventures. It's a great way to spend her birthday month and we're all proud of her for making the commitment to make this missions trip happen.

August is a big month for us as we begin laying out the plans for both the Season 5 of the Great Tyrian Adventure, our big Annual Guild Wars 2 event, as well as ramping up for this years Extra Life Charity Event. Be sure to check out news on both of these items below.

No Gathering for Foghladha at PAX West This Year

It breaks my heart to announce that I will be unable to attend PAX West this year. It seems my calendars were not agreeable this year and I've been double booked. If people still want to get together without me that would be awesome to keep the tradition alive, however I won't be able to make it out for this one. Next year we'll do something big I promise as Soren will be making the trip out too and I can't let our crazy Canadians who drive for 4 days just to be there down. It's the first time in about 7 years that I won't be able to make it so i'm a bit heart broken, but I will definitely be there next year even if I gotta take time off to make it happen.

Extra Life 2018 Plans & Schedule

Last year's Extra Life Event went off tremendously. We had lots of people watching, lots of people playing and raised a good amount of cash for the Children's Miracle Network. This year we're going to expand our party to Friday making it a 3 day Livestream Event that you can pick and choose which parts you want to attend.

For those that are not familiar with the event. The Extra Life Charity Event is put on every fall as a Game-a-Thon to raise money for the Children's Miracle Network. We have participated in the event as a community for 8 years and have raised over $38,000. This year we aim to raise another $5,000 with a 3 day livestream event.

Festivities will kick off at 3PM PT on Friday November 2nd and run through Sunday at 3PM PT. Games will include Guild Wars 2, Elder Scrolls Online, and several others from our social adventure lineup.

If you would like to help us raise money for the Children's Miracle Network be sure to sign up for our team at: and then be sure to add your Extra Life Participant ID to the charity tab on to earn contribution points for your fundraising.

Thank You June 2019 Patreons!

As always I can not express my gratitude enough to all of those that have supported the community through Patreon, Twitch and YouTube. Your contributions have gone a long way into allowing us to grow and provide us with tools to streamline our operation.

I wanted to take a moment to say congratulations to a few members this month for accepting their next credo and stepping into a new role in our family.

Legends of the Family (Laoch)

Among the most devoted in the community are the Legends. They have devoted more than two years of their lives to playing along side the family and have shown their devotion and commitment to our families beliefs and best practices. They encourage the new, teach the learning and support the community. These are the most trusted advisors to the elder council and occasionally they will request feedback, ideas and perspectives to help guide the future of the community. Above all else, Legends are shining examples of what all Gaiscioch members should strive to be. This role can be obtained by both leaders and followers and is the pinnacle of ones Gaiscioch career.

Chapter 4:
Guild Wars 2

Great Tyrian Adventure Season 5 Preparations

We're moving forward with our Great Tyrian Adventure plans for this October. Our first order of business is restocking the prize vault. We're looking for Yellow Weapon Skins, Ascended Insignias and Inscriptions, Exotic Weapons, Boxes of Exotic Armor, and of course Precursors or Legendaries that you’re willing to donate. We are also going to need 3 volunteers to help us create the targeted 3 legendaries for the prize pool as well as some volunteers to help create a few other rare weapon prizes.

We will hold our first meeting of the new season on August 4th at 2PM PT on Discord. Be sure to mark your calendars.

Sanctum of Rall is Full

So…. What started as a couple guilds coming over to Sanctum of Rall before the new WvW Alliance system goes live, has turned into a massive amount of people flocking to our server. On reset night triple digit queues have been seen and usually at least 2 battlefields have queues throughout the day. ArenaNet stopped the surge by locking our server to transfers.

The good news is we're blowing the competition out of the water. The bad news is there's almost always queues. I'm certain over the next few weeks it will sort itself out but in the meantime it might be a bit of a challenge to get on the battlefield so plan to attend events early.

Lastly, the site has been reactivated and updated. You can now import your api key to sync your account with the site. It will pull your characters, fractal level, crafting skills, wvw rank and statistics, and pvp win loss and rank. Then you can see how you stack up against the competition in the leaderboard section.

Elder Scrolls Online

Adventures with Foghladha Returning in September

Due to extremely low turnout during the summer I've pulled my events off the calendar for the month of August but plan to relaunch them come September as the kids go back to school and the parents get to play again. Thinking of shaking it up a bit with new content every week.

This September, the first week of the month will be an exploration event venturing to Craglorn for our zone exploration event. The second week will roam the AvA Battlefield closing Dolmans, exploring delves, and capturing the odd objective. The third week we will head to the Imperial City for a bit of exploration and boss hunting. For the final week of the month we will be running a skirmish squad looking to cause back line havok in full on warfare. I'm working on diversifying our events to bring you to new places that you may not have been while exposing us to a light amount of siege warfare.

Historical Chapter 3:

Rift Remains Open to Members, But No Longer Recruiting

Over the last month, the last of our event leaders said goodbye and with this, we are placing RIFT in the Historical Chapter category allowing existing members and new members to our community to enjoy it as they see fit, however we are placing Rift on Maintenance mode and will no longer be actively using the looking for guild tool to bring new people into the community. Rift Prime drove a hot knife through our already spread thin community and we simply don't have the population to sustain a healthy event calendar. Our leaders have tried to host events with shrinking turnouts. In the end, low population has driven them to find more active shores.

At this point, if you wish to journey to other more active guilds, we encourage you to find someplace that suits your desires. Remember that once your a Gaiscioch, you're always a Gaiscioch. All you need to do is login and click off the chapters you want to play with in the future. Also Gaiscioch doesn't have to be the in game guild to participate with the community. You can continue being an active part of the community even wearing another guild tag.

Historical Chapter 2:
Warhammer Online

Warhammer Continues Tier 1 for Another Month

The summer time has hit us full swing and most of our Warhammer Community is out entertaining their kids. Population has been real thin the past month and we continue to make a difference on the Tier 1 battlefield. We will plan to remain in Tier 1 for the month of August. We also secured ourselves an alliance with Zaxxed and a few smaller guilds. I'm hoping that once school starts back up in Sept we'll see a return of players and we can continue to keep this party rollin. If we continue to see a decline we will place this one in maintenance mode and leave it open for anyone that wants to keep playing. We've been having a blast in Tier 1 the past few weeks. We're still getting a healthy flow of new players joining the community which is good.

I really hoped that come the fall we could return to Tier 4 in a big way, but with so few playing I really don't want to commit to those plans. I want to know people have my back if we go to Tier 4. I can't do it without you guys. Tier 4 PuG's are a whole other monster. Tier 1 is still malleable and can be taught, tier 4 is stubborn and set in their ways. WIthout some trusted allies to support the vision, things won't work.

To Arms! Join us in Gloria Victis

Alas, one of the games I have worked with is finally in a place where I want to share it with others. Nearly 5 years ago Black Eye Games put out a self run crowdfunding campaign for a new four faction themed after real world nations with no magic and straight true to medieval combat. I quickly became embedded with the team and flushed out a huge 21 page document outlining the perfect guild system. Years have passed, the map has grown, new factions have been added (now at 3) and the gameplay has drastically improved.

My best description of Gloria Victis is a combination of Dark Age of Camelot and Mount and Blade. You spend some time gathering supplies to craft and upgrade fortifications, but you spend more time fighting both humans and NPCs. There are safe areas where you can play without fear of being attacked that are surrounded by safe-lite areas where you don't have to worry about being looted. Outside of those areas you can be looted within a limit. Players earn loot credits for capturing objectives and killing players. When you are killed by an enemy player they have a 30 second window to loot you and spend their loot credits. The thing is if they loot you, their loot credits go down and they might not be able to loot the next guy who has that glowing sword he wants. So you really need to choose what you loot and when because it may bite you in the keister.

We have formed up the Tuatha guild as a home for any who want to play and Radiologikal and myself are able to make bags to help alleviate your storage woes. Join us every Sunday at 11AM PT for Gloria Victis on Weekend Warriors.

A New Kind of Siege Warfare in Rend

Launching into early access on July 31st, Rend is a new siege warfare game with a spin. It features both pvp and pve sieges. In the vein of Fortnite you have a base to defend and you must build up fortifications to protect it from waves of relentless foes. In addition, it has a 3 faction siege warfare mechanic built into the game. Choose from the armies of the militaristic Order, enlightened Revenant, and mysterious Conclave as they wage war in an ongoing struggle to survive. Choose your allegiance wisely: your brothers and sisters will prove pivotal in your journey towards ascension.

Rend is a team-based survival game set in the fabled universe of Nordic myth. This epic fantasy world is a harsh domain where the strong ascend as gods. You must choose from three rival factions, combine forces to build your team’s stronghold, and battle foes and brutal creatures. Together, you will endure the dangers of Rend’s treacherous landscapes to discover valuable resources and powerful artifacts. With the game’s deep talent trees and skill systems, you’ll have the freedom to choose how you want to fight for your team’s victory. When a cycle ends, one faction will be declared the winner… but the end is only the beginning. Victorious players will receive rewards they can use in subsequent cycles as they ascend to legendary heights as heroes.

I will be hosting Rend events in August on Saturdays at 11AM PT. Rend will be a buy-to-play game like Guild Wars 2 with a starting price of $29.99 during Early Access. You can see how far on their development roadmap they are at: If you're on the fence, be sure to watch my livestream on August 4th at 11AM PT to see if it's a game you might enjoy. If you've been burned by Early Access games in the past, please do due diligence to make sure it is in a state that you wish to play. Our good friend Evan "Scapes" Beerman is the head of the community on this one and remembers us well from our days working with him at Trion. There's a good possibility we may end up getting some things to give away.

If the game is fun and we decide to keep playing it past it's first month of early access, we will rotate it in our weekly Sunday Weekend Warriors livestream. Being I haven't ever had the chance to play and all I’ve seen is trailer footage, I have no way of telling if it's going to sink or swim. I just hope for my friend’s sake that it does well.

Magazine Meeting August 11th at 3PM

Gaiscioch Magazine is actively looking for writers. We need people who like games enough to write about them. This is a great opportunity to support the community while building a portfolio of journalistic quality. Our articles are averaging over 1,000 reads for traditional articles and over 10,000 reads for guides and walkthroughs. It's also a way you can earn those Artisan points which go into your Family Honor Point and Family Vault Credit totals. Most importantly, we're running out of writers and if we don't find more soon there won't be much of a magazine left. We need your help. I can even hook you up with games sometimes for reviewing.
