Cead Mile Failte

Fall Approaches, filled with heat waves, football, and barbeques. The summer time is coming to a close and things around camp Gaiscioch will soon start returning to normal. We're in the final month of the summer lull. Over the next few months we'll be settling back into our fall event lineup and we'll see a lot of friendly faces returning to the community. There are a few topics that are time sensitive, so I'll cover those first.

Gaiscioch Family News

PAX Prime Gaiscioch Celebration New Time!

Join us at Fado's Irish Pub for a pint on August 30th at 9PM PT.  We had to push the party back an hour due to a schedule conflict.  So far the head count is between 10 and 20 people depending on how many of the "I'll try to make it" show up. If it's your first time at Fado's, the prices are in the $10-$20 per plate range, however they have several appetisers and a ton of beer on tap. I highly recommend the Corned Beef and Cabbage. Best i've ever had. Be ready to take a family picture while we're there and you'll have a chance to peek at our family album and sign our guestbook :D.

Grab a bite, share a pint,
Tell a tale, sing in gael,
Make a friend, before night's end.

Call to Arms
Shards Online

My good friend Derek Brinkmann has approached me about helping with an upcoming stress test. I need to summon an army. I will have an undetermined number of Alpha keys to be able to pass out to players willing to help on September 12-13th. This is a 2 day alpha test and we'll need to put in a few hours that weekend and send in some reports and feedback. This is not a play before you buy type thing. It's a lets help build a closer bond with game developers type thing so in the future doors of opportunity like this one open. Remember the only reason people like Cryss from Aeria, David Bass (formerly) of Carbide, Derek Brinkmann, Matt Firor, and Scott Hartsman have called on us in the past is because of the work and reputation we have shown when they worked with us previously. I am aiming for at least 50 Gaiscioch in the waiting.

Please let me know if you can participate by replying to:

Gaiscioch Family Summit Livestream

Join us on September 5th at 5PM Pacific for the monthly Gaiscioch Family Summit. If you have questions, concerns, ideas, or just want to share something cool you're working on please bring it to the monthly summit. Topics we will include: what we saw at PAX Prime, Extra Life 2015, Guild Wars 2's Big Announcement, Elder Scrolls Online's Imperial City, and upcoming events.

Additionally, I will be giving an overview of how chapters are both opened and closed and what is required for each of these to happen. I will discuss our plans for the near future in regards to our current chapters.

Be sure to tune in live on and join us on GameVox to participate. Catch the recap on YouTube if you are unable to attend.

Extra Life 2015

This year's Extra Life event is rapidly approaching and it's time to get registered and start fundraising. This year we have a few plans for in game events. Some of your favorite commanders will be filling the calendar with events over the course of the weekend.

If you're looking for something with a little variety, I am planning to host a 24-hour event split over 2 days  in multiple games. We will be playing 12 different games over the course of this event. Our current lineup includes:

  • Allods Online
  • Rift
  • Archeage [10+]
  • Vindictus
  • Warface
  • Wildstar
  • Guild Wars 2
  • Elder Scrolls Online [10+]
  • Tera
  • Neverwinter [20+]
  • Aion
  • Skyforge

Anyone and everyone is welcome to come out and join the GSCH guilds and group up for the stream. In several of these games we'll form up raids and go take on some big uglies. That crab in ArcheAge is going down!

The Evolution of the Elder Role

For years we've kept 1 Elder per active 100 people. As our population has reduced since we began playing games that limit population we've decided to up this to 1 Elder per 50 people. This gives us more coverage per elder and keeps our current elder team intact.

Additionally I have decided to add some focus to our eldership team. I have outlined several focuses where Elders can help keep the family running smoothly and relieve some of the burden from the select few who have been trying to carry the whole thing. The various roles include but are not limited to:

  • Roster Managers - To process invites / removals
  • Marketplace Manager - To approve new recipes, add new ingredients and plan new developments.
  • New Player Development - Introducing new players to the Gaiscioch Way and being a positive light in the world.
  • Social Media Managers - To aid in managing Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and provide support for livestreams.
  • Reputation Managers - To help monitor forums, social media, and in game communication to make notes of positive and negative feedback and help build a plan to address it.
  • Proofreaders - To help proofread content for newsletters & website.
  • Server Relations Manager - To act as a liaison between Gaiscioch & server communities.
  • R&D - To help research new title, build relationships with development teams, and identify trouble areas in potential titles.
  • Family Historian - To help chronicle the history of our family, share the Gaiscioch story to others, and teach new members about our families ways.
  • Resource Manager - Help manage vaults, data entry, and process prizes for contests.
  • Public Relations - Assist in family meetings, post constructively on public forums, and help manage the image of Gaiscioch. These members will be very public facing.

These new focused roles will allow us to spread the load across all of the elders and ensure that each elder is contributing to the overall success of the family. I will be building out some tools to help each of these roles streamline processes and gain the ability to help me keep things updated and current. In preparation for these new systems we decided to bring on 2 new elders with specific specializations.

Welcoming 2 New Elders to the Team

  • Verve will be joining our Elder Scrolls Online Eldership team to help me manage the adventures in the game to keep them updated with all of the new content getting introduced into the game. His dungeon running expertise has been a godsend over the past year and lead me to promote him as a family commander for ESO. After watching him for several months we've decided to bring him onto the team to assist with the management of that side of the house.

  • Smitty has been nominated and selected to join the Guild Wars 2 team to assist Soren and I with promoting Gaiscioch over social media channels, livestreams, and participate in public appearances. He will also be joining the new player integration team, making sure all of our new players understand how things work.

Guild Wars 2 News

The Raid Bomb is About to Drop

Yes, Raiding in Guild Wars 2 was being discussed on the official forums since a little over a year ago. Tidbits of teaser information has lead us to believe the big Raid word is about to drop this weekend. Be sure to tune in Saturday, August 29, at 10:30 a.m. Pacific Time for a special livestream presentation as ArenaNet reveals "Challenging Group Content" that will define your endgame experience in the expansion.

Be sure to check out:

Heart of Thorns Release Date?

This week marks the one conference a year where ArenaNet has home field advantage. Over history this is a very big conference for them. I would not be surprised to see a date drop at PAX Prime.

New Family Commanders for September 2015

This month we'll be welcoming JayRF and GmaFog/Humble Misty to the Family Commander lineup. There are several up and coming commanders we plan to work with in the future and we'll likely see a couple more added next month. Both JayRF and GmaFog have been hosting events open to the public for our family and have acted as a Gaiscioch Commander should. As always our commanders are hand picked based on leadership ability, compassion, and most importantly patience. These two have shown these traits in bulk over the past few months and we are proud to welcome them to the team.

Elder Scrolls Online News

At The Gates of the Imperial City

Here comes the Imperial City! The moment we've been waiting for, for quite a while, is finally here. My Thursday events will likely focus on getting us inside and exploring the depths of the Imperial City. Looking forward to sharing those adventures with you.

The Little Bird Returns

Rumors travel fast, so I wanted to take a moment to set some of your minds at ease. Yes, we are below 250 members, and yes it's going to get increasingly more difficult to keep the members we have as it will be harder to find groups, tougher to connect with the few that still play, and even more difficult to make an impact in the world on a public level. That said, there are no plans to close the Elder Scrolls Online branch at this time.

The horizon looks bleak for new chapter potentials. Nothing is even remotely close to being ready to go live and certainly nothing available has the demand we currently have for Elder Scrolls Online. I have faith that through the fall and winter we will see those numbers climb back over the 250 mark just like it did previously. This is not the first time we dropped below 250.

We will not close the ESO chapter unless there is something else drawing more of our members attention and has cleared our rigorous evaluation process. At the soonest you're looking at late 2016 early 2017. Which means we have a whole year ahead of ourselves to see where ESO goes.

I am confident that my eldership team, commanders, and community that has brought ESO alive will keep this going for the next year. Yes, the game is struggling, but the community is tight knit and there is more kindness floating around our ESO chapter than any group i've ever had the pleasure of being a part of.

There is no reason to close this chapter just yet, and I will not act too hastily when I know outright regardless of what game we play, the months of May - September always go down in population. Pulling the cord now would be premature and unfair to the people who had to stop playing over the summer. We will do what we can to keep this ball rolling forward for as long as the audience wants us to.

I believe we will see a rise in population come October. As people return from their summer vacations and kids go back to school our rooms will fill once again. There's no need to panic just yet :).
