Hi all,

So I am level 106 and spent the majority of my leveling time in Highmountain and Azsuna. I play an Elemental Shaman (ASPAR) and I have been dying a lot. I am totally cool with that because I started playing WOW at launch so I have seen it all and remember those days and the faceroll days and the "AOE is so overpowered we clear dungeons in 3 pulls" days. And I am an ok player. I know my class and my talents....but the deaths keep coming.

Am I the only one? Is Legion more difficult? Are more people dying more often?

Any thoughts and feedback would be much appreciated!

The PVE is very vanilla.  I have died a few times.  Ironically, the dungeons are relatively easy.  I think I've had one party wipe in about 6 dungeons on LFG, and that's unheard of for a new Xpac.

Make sure you have your special weapon skill slotted.  Some people are missing that each artifact weapon has it's own unique spell or ability to slot on your action bar.  It's usually a very powerful spell and makes an impact on your rotation.

Being a shaman, you have some healing spells. Keep an eye on your health bar and heal yourself when you see it drop to about 70% or so. Sure, it might take away a bit of your dps, but it will help in the long run since you can't dps when you are dead. :)

I don't know what it's like being a shaman, as I have never gotten one above 62. But I do know that when leveling my druid, I would always be throwing out some healing spells on myself. But I focus more on survivability over pure "rawr damage smash!", which is why I level in protection spec on my paladin and warrior. Always make sure that you have your artifact weapon's power consumed (don't hoard the artifact power), and use your artifact's special ability often. Also, try to pull a bit less if possible. Unless of course you already are doing that. In that case, throw them healing spells on yourself.

Thankfully, I have only died 2x. Both from falling (one I was knocked off a ledge by a stone fury, the other I jumped and realized my bubble wasn't off CD, and I didn't quite reach the water). I am always throwing out healing on myself when I see my health drop below 80%. Being a draenei also helps with Gift of the Naaru.

I've been leveling as a resto shaman. It takes a bit longer, but I rarely die.  I keep flame shock up on the target and use lava burst whenever there is a charge. Lava surge (instacast lava burst) procs surprisingly often. throw up riptide, a healing totem or two, use healing surge/ healing wave when they proc and kite a lot. Rinse and repeat.

I haven't used elemental spec at all. It's so lackluster in my option after the changes. I was just looking through the ele tree and it seems that you only have one healing spell now and it doesn't seem to heal for much.  If you can use CC, use it. Hex lasts 1 min which is pretty epic.  Lightening Surge totem is awesome if you have that talent. Dont be afraid to throw out your elemental if you think you are in trouble.

With maelstrom, getting your rotation down is really important so that you can use abilities when you need to.

Have you tried Enhancement at all? I think its pretty fun. For just regular questing I like to use it because it does a ton of damage and requires no down time because healing surge is instant if you have the maelstrom for it.  I don't have and artifact power into my enhancement artifact with int rings/trinket and still do fine questing.

If you have any questions, I am usually on in the mornings, feel free to ask. =)

I just realized that I posted that on the husband's account. Im Ckemikal =)

I've been playing elemental shaman, and it is slower than I would like but I don't die. There's some good advice above. Don't hold off on using your elemental and ascendance for a special occasion, use them at will, unless you are planning to go after a rare; it's good to have them available then. If fire is down, throw out your earth, it's better than nothing.

When you are full maelstrom, be sure to use your earth shock; when you don't have ascendance up, use your artifact ability. I like to do flame shock, lava burst, artifact and then spam lightning until lava burst is back. Refresh flame shock when it drops.

I don't pull multiples unless i have no choice, and if I think I'm going to pull multiples I like to have ascendance at the ready. I also heal early and often; fights are slower but safer that way.

Hexing is good, I also use thunderstorm? to knock back and frost shock to slow them. You have two interrupts, use them on casters. I think the biggest difference I see with Legion is that fights are harder, so you have to use all the tools in your kit rather than just a couple of dps spells.

All this being said, I'm thinking about trying something different. Maybe I should explore enhancement like Ckemical suggests.

Thanks for all of the advice. I think my issue is exactly what Lilou alludes to and that is I do not use my entire toolkit and I need too. I use them all sparingly but need to use it all more often.

When I did the enhancement artifact line, I was destroying stuff. I know enhancement is better than elemental right now so I may try it and see.

Thanks again for the advice!

Legion monsters can be a bit tough. Now that I am 110, and so is everything else around me, they are even putting a hurt on my protection paladin. Monsters seem to get a bigger boost than you do at 110. So, be prepared for that. Healing spells are your friend, and it is best to use everything as often as possible. I am bad about this, and keep forgetting to use Ardent Defender.

Play whatever you like more. And don't be afraid to ask for help from guildies. Everything is scaled to that person's level for them only, so I am assuming there isn't any downsides to grouping with someone of a higher (or even lower) level than you. I am sure there would be someone(s) willing to help if you want it.
