Thinking About Hopping In... Thoughts?

So, I've played GW2 for a bit (not recently, but more closer to the launch) and I grew slightly tired of it. I don't think it was the game, per se, but I do think it was because I played so much of it. However, I seen a friend playing some high-level content of RIFT just the other day and I really liked what I seen. He started talking about all of the different souls, and how the Storm Legion xpac was going to be huge and awesome. So, I thought I might give it a try. However, I don't have many friends that play RIFT. I was wondering, is this a good time to jump into RIFT? Should I wait until Storm Legion? And, if I were to join up, would anyone be willing to create new characters so we could experience the early levels together? Thanks for any input. :)

I would personally think this is a good time to join, since it will give you some time to get used to the souls and lvl up to 50 before the lvl cap is raised. I would check the Rift website and see if they have any bargins for purchasing the expansion and the vanilla game if that is what you are interested in doing. I think they also have a Rift Lite thingy where you can experience the first 20 lvls or something for free, not sure about the details on that.

Rift allows you to "mentor" your level...my fiance just started playing and I temporarily "mentored" my level down to his so we could do some questing together. So it doesn't require rolling a new character to keep you company :-) Just ask in guild chat if you want a quest buddy...I for one would be happy to help for a bit. Also I'm sure some ppl have alts at various levels they might be willing to drag out of storage for a bit...

Faeblight. When you get in, type /join Tuatha and ask for an invite to the Rift guild, and someone will invite you.

Hello there! I played Rift right when it launched then I got distracted by other things. I hopped back in when Rift Lite came out and played till level 20 for free. I have since subbed and am almost level 50. I must say I love this game. In my opinion it's the evolution of what WoW started. (please don't flame me for saying that, lol) It's a mature game, with awesome visuals. Raids and dungeons are expertly done and never get boring. Most of all, the community has been helpful and all around fun. There is A LOT to do in this game and a lot of rewards for sticking with it. The ex pack looks to be awesome as well. The player housing is something that will add a whole new level of immersion and something new to obsess over. If you decide to play add me to your friends list and I would love to mentor with you and throw you healz when you need them.

So I ended up hopping in last night, partly decided for me by Arena.net with my false account ban. So until that's cleared up I thought I'd give Rift a try and see how I like it. Which role are people usually looking for the most? I usually play a healer because I like it, but also because in most MMO's it's easy to get in a group. I think the Tactician looks cool but I see there's no healer role for Rogue. How does the Rogue Tank role hold up? I would hate to choose a calling that can only DPS.

None of the callings are limited to just dps, everyone has options: warrior- tank, dps, support (I think) cleric- tank, dps, support (I think), heal mage- dps, support, heal rogue- tank, dps, support I see tanks and healers pretty frequently asked for in groups. It's a good idea to have more than one role though, like for a cleric having a heal, support, and dps spec, for example. The more flexible you can be the more you can do! Play what's fun for you, and there'll be places for you to do stuff at max level. If you have questions about anything in-game, I have tons of random Rift info in my brain, feel free to ask :) Hope you enjoy the game!

No callings can just dps. Since you are interested in Rogue they make good tanks, can do very good dps both AE and ST in range or melee, and can support as a bard (which is no slouch in providing constant raid heals.

Thanks for the responses. I didn't mean "just dps" like they don't have the option to do something else, just that maybe their tank soul isn't as good as a Warrior tank and therefore no one really uses it. That's more what I was looking for. But it sounds like it's not that way. I'll have to stick with my rogue. It sounds like the Tactician is also going to add a good support/raid healing aspect.
