I know someone asked about ranger builds a while back so I am providing this link to Koroshi's youtube ranger build video. I love Koroshi's builds and also run a variant of his engineer build.
My ranger build is very similar to this and I found it is extremely hard to bring down. Since I rarely roam, I swap out axe for shortbow, and also use entangle for my ultra instead of rampage as one.
I recently started running this build. It takes a lot of getting used to your main/off-hand combos. One key is remembering that you have evades on both weapon sets. The other is to make sure you are using your shout everytime it's off cooldown so you can get that regen/swiftness.
One quirk to using the shortest cooldown shout "Guard" is that it will cause your pet to go to the target area when you use the skill. I haven't had the best luck with trying to negate that immediately with pressing F1. So instead I've found that a quick F3->F1 works more effectively.
Another quirk is that this is a condi build and it makes it very difficult to spike down stealth thieves/mesmers. The trick is using the Krytan hounds immob and then you can nuke condi's.
