So apparently BG bought a couple more guilds from other servers. I guess not having the top point tick on weekends and only winning 90% of the matches was bumming them out. Recruiting more wvw guilds at this point seems like it does more harm than good. Not sure if they noticed but you can't take objectives and get ranks unless an opposing server takes them from you first. Good luck getting those achievements done when all 4 borderlands are 100% owned.
I agree with this sentiment. They are overpopulating themselves, and eventually I believe they will break. Queue times must be horrible, even though "supposedly" they work together to let guilds on to the maps for coverage. Imagine being a pug on that server and being told you are not allowed to queue because such and such a guild has priority... Anyway, give it awhile. in the WvW meeting I sat in this week SoR commanders made it clear we're okay with not being able to keep the maps queued at all hours, and we'd rather focus on fighting hard and having fun. They even addressed some of the BS that people are doing such as yelling at others to tag down for no good reason, etc.
We are the underdog of T1. BG and JQ both have numbers on us, this is known. Its also known that 1 Rallian is worth 2 of them, so take pride in that. They have to, we regularly take on superior numbers and win.
Love the Sanctum of Rall and the family, and those discouraging moments are followed by great moments of winning against the odds.
This practice has been going on since the wvw started with several of the servers.There was even talk about SOR paying for people to transfer to this server to help with low coverage times. No sure if we did or not but it would not surprise me if we did. We have always been the underdog in this game. I would be more concern if they did not feel this was necessary (they afraid of us). Let the other servers do what they think they need to do. Jq and BG have both imploded once since the game began they can not maintain the high pressures on the guilds. I know that we have the right plan fight hard, if it is RED ITS DEAD! and most of all have fun.

The thing i just don't understand is the whole practice of guild recruitment is self-defeating once you hit critical mass. BG must be the most populous server, at least with regard to wvw players. If you already have ridiculous queue times, why would you want MORE competition for wvw spots? Whats the point of dominating wvw if you can never get in? I honestly hope that the loot from the achievement chest is really good, but does not differ significantly between ranks. That might encourage some BG guilds to move to T2 servers. I know I would be angry if SoR took 1st place but I was unable to get the achieves done in time.
Honestly, to me Blackgate cannot sustain this tactic of WvW guild recruitment. At some point it is going to backfire on them and the entire server will implode. It has happened with other Tier 1 servers before and if history ever teaches us anything, not learning from our past is cause for the same issue to happen again in the future.
I'm really not upset that we are the underdog in WvW. As long as I'm out in WvW with friends and having a good time (yay for the 'RED IT'S DEAD' view) I don't care which servers we are fighting or how outnumbered we can end up being as long as we all keep a positive outlook and just have a fun time.
As to SoR buying guilds, we have not, from everything I can tell. Its been discussed, and we do of course recruit guilds, but we don't have anything such as the taxes/raffle/fundraiser BG or JQ have. BG recently paid 7000 gold to fund the server transfer of Za Drots (The Russian guild some of you may have heard of, stated from a BG player himself). There is just no funding source on SoR like that, and when discussed about staring one, it was quickly shot down in WvW meeting.
Correction, Prissy informed me that in the past SoR had done funded transfers, I guess its just more recently that it has been shot down in the weekly WvW meeting.
As others have stated - it will cycle on them - as it already has in the past. Guilds will get bored and leave since they can't get in - players will leave from smaller guilds since they can't get in to PUGs and the queues are too long - so they will transfer to lesser populated servers. When you blow up a balloon beyond capacity it - POPS. One thing about SOR is our consistency- and as Prissy said... having fun!
Last thing I want is a bunch of mercs stealing my kills. What your seeing out there is not bg getting more guilds. Its sor throwing in the towel as soon as we get behind. A commander last night said "not like it matters this week weve already lost". We lost in 48 hours? What happened to the other 120 hours. The problem we are facing is not being out numbered. Its having the tenacity to get back out there and fight fast and hard for as long as we can. Quitting after 24 hours is not going to win any wars.
Yes, I saw that - it was sad and with that attitude we won't even stay in 2nd place. We did have some awesome fights last night though - even being outnumbered... Gaiscioch held their own! You can never have too many bags drop :)
Yea, I've seen that negative quitter attitude in WvW lately and it just pisses me off that people give up that quickly. But then I run with all of you guys during the Gaiscioch WvW events and have fun even if we are greatly outnumbered.
To me this is the same as buying gold to stay on top as a player. Myself ,I have never done that and ever will. I like being the winner as much as the next guy but ya know what. I likke being the winner with what I worked for and earned not what I bought.
We (GSCH) consistantlly go out outnumbered in wvw and create havoc. We have some great commanders with some first class tactics and we show it.Thats more fun than buying first place and I play this game for fun. Being first all the time would probablly be boring anyways. We would be against people with the attitude of the guy Fog was talking about and wind up with no competition in wvw.
Some people hate to lose and must be on the winning team , saw that in warhammer , where order was losing and guilds on multiple servers said they were gona quit , sooo many dest rerolled and soon order was winning , then all new people that joined the game saw who was winning and all rolled order thus making the problem worse .
There were a couple of servers where dest was on top but 80 % of them were order dominated after jan 2009 . Fast forward to 20012 most servers were closed due to people leaving the game because of balance and population imbalance , back in 2008, 09 and 10 you had to rank up your city to gt quests etc and it took on average 3 days to rank up from 1 to 5 however soon as dest city hit 4 order sacked it back down to a 1 .
Issue would have corrected itself had people rerolled or played old dest toon but most didn`t ,
I stayed dest all thru 2008, 2009, 2010 and in 2011 started playing my old order toons i shelfed in 2008 to play dest since they were losing , in 2011 started playing order to help them since they were now losing on every server ..
Playing the under dog is always the most fun , theres never a shortage of people to fight, and it`s great win you beat a superior force due to better tactics etc , sadly most can`t see that and flock to the winning team and wonder why there`s no one to fight after the other team takes their ball and goes home .
I'd hate to be on BG right now. Pride of being #1 takes a back seat to being able to participate and have fun.
On the bright side with so many fair weather players on the loosing weeks the queues arent bad and we can all play together.
BG has the right to pay for other guilds to come to their server. I don't like the practice but, hey if that's what they think they have to do to win, shrug. I would rather have the groups that we do, out having fun, taking nothing but supply camps if that is all that is available, causing them some headaches. The only difference in placing 1st or 2nd in the season is the number of bags you get at the end. I believe 1st gets three, 2nd gets two and third gets one.
I don't see much honor or bragging rights if you have to pay to get guilds to join your server. It is kind of an empty victory if you ask me! I love running our small groups in the morning, seeing BG run from us when they don't have us vastly outnumbered! It shows me how much they (BG) fear our guild/server. They know we can outfight their hammer train, because we know how to defeat it. The upcoming class balance in December will also negate a lot of their hammer train effectiveness from what I see. I am excited to see how it actually changes the tide of battle.
All I would say is keep your chin up, we are doing great for the number of people we have day to day. As long as we learn from every encounter we can only get better. As you all level your characters, and are able to equip them with more exotic and ascended gear the more effective we will become.
As Fog said above, que times are down dramatically in the mornings at least, and we are able to select more than one battleground.

I guess we have to accept that because GW2 is a micro-transaction business, there will be lots of things that make sense from a business perspective but not from a game balance perspective.
Anyone know how long gueues are in BG? That would be interesting to know.
There are still queues - but I've been getting in in under 30 minutes - sometimes as quick as 5 mins. They aren't like what they were in week one. AND - honestly I know Gaiscioch is still having fun out there.
I also don't understand the micro transaction remark... even games that don't have this allow people to pay for transferring servers - has been around for a long, long time. It has happened in other games that don't have in-game stores so I don't think their micro transaction business is hurting WvWvW and to have them not allow server transfers would be against what most games do. Servers intent on winning at PvP/AvA/WvWvW will seek out guilds to transfer in regardless of the game - recruitment goes on months in advance of release. It is what it is.
I, for one - just as many others have stated, am thankful SOR is just what it is. We'll have far more fun "our" way and our server was built on having fun... and you know what? We're still a top tier server :) ... I just can't want us to be any different. In the beginning we were all happy being in the top half and to me this shows that having fun can be rewarding - and we "casual" players can kick butt.

I do want to state that I know we have hardcore players in our guild and on our server - regardless of how you define it. Our guild is just too big and we have such a diversity of players - same with our server. But BG has always been a hardcore server while SOR is not even if many players might want us to be. That is why we don't pay guilds to transfer in. AND again, I am happy with what we are.
I know it would be impossible to pull off, at least for very long, but I have a hilarious idea for some payback for BG if they buy yet more guilds in advance of Season 2. Imagine if we could organize a server-wide boycott of BG. Can you imagine the howls of protest and frustration from BG if on reset night of season 2 SoR completely stayed out of wvw? It would be perfect if we could convince the other server facing BG to also boycott. BG would have absolutely nothing to do. Too funny.

It would be incredible. I think it would make a huge statement of SoR solidarity. Just to get the entire server on board, if only for a couple hours, would be an achievement.
Honestly, I feel the only way to fix the balance issue in wvw is to form a kind of alliance system where groups of servers team up to take on the other alliances. For example, the 24 US servers could be collapsed into 6 alliances of 4 servers each with the members determined by average wvw population. Obviously, there would need to be overflow wvw maps because the total alliance population would be much higher than an individual server's population. That should give all wvw'ers a chance to play in well populated matches while being relatively fair and balanced. I'm sure that conflicts with anets business model, but just had to throw it out there.
Yea, LordMelchom, you are correct and it isn't even from the actual start of the season but the server rewards were locked in a week or two before the seasons started.
