okay this game has just become very VERY infuriating. I've done all I can think of and I cannot stop it from causing my graphic card to stop canceling my video display. it was going just fine till recently, then it started to act up every few moments, now I can't even log into the game with out it causing my video to stop displaying. and this is the ONLY game it does it with. has ANYONE here had this issue? how did you fix it. how long did it last. I'm starting to feel like I wasted 50$ for a program that only lasted me about a month

Have you tried unintelligible your video drivers and reinstalling them? No idea pushed out a bad patch a couple weeks ago and has recently released the fixed version.  Might be worth a try if you haven't already.

I had the same issue with my old system, every now and then it would black screen and tell me that the display drivers had stopped working. Then it would go back to normal. Make sure your drivers are at least up to date. Also make sure you meet minimum system requirements and if not I suggest an updated computer.

The good news is that its not the game, resource sucking hog that it is.

The bad news, is that if its causing your video to stop displaying, depending on the error (if one is visible), its something with your system, regardless of whether or not it happens just with GW2.

Unfortunately, even with knowing specific information (which you didn't give) its a complete pain to troubleshoot, so I'm not going to bother taking wild shots in the dark beyond the following, because there are hundreds of possible variables, from hardware failure, viruses, improper file security permissions to driver issues, overclocking or file corruption... that this could easily become a 50 page thread just trying everything.

GW2 is almost like a benchmark testing program, its going to push any computer system to its limits, more so than most other games and programs, so it doesn't surprise me that issues with something that might be failing will appear to only affect GW2, especially if its hardware.

It could even be something as simple as your Power Supply beginning to fail, symptoms are similar to what you describe.  You can find more information via Google or Bing searches.  If you're running nVidia, make sure you upgrade to the current drivers, first, though.  There is a rendering issue with previous drivers that can sometimes cause a driver crash at the kernel level.

That's all I have, so good luck.

read through that whole thread, and it's not limited to my XFX 7770 card. did multiple stress tests on my graphic card and it handled everything that the tests through at it and the temp never went above 47*C . and I still get that stupid blank screen the second I try getting into the game to play. I log in, choose a character and as just as it finishes loading, I hear my Graphic Card fan rev up and poof, blank screen every single time. -.-

I read through many of the posts and the XFX 7770 was common among several of the posts which is why I suspected it was the cause.  I'm thinking maybe look for an older driver for the card, the newest driver might have broke its compatibility with GW2. It sounds like the card isn't receiving enough power even though you have a perfectly appropriate power supply. It seems software based either way, whether the driver or the game

On a side note, this is more like a double check but do you have a power cable from your power supply connected to the top of your card?

If your card has a power slot, then yes, you should.  Otherwise it won't receive the power it needs to do all of the processing it needs to do.  A lot of times the cards will still run under a normal load, but some may give you a warning if you have the manufacturer's drivers installed (and not the Microsoft drivers from Windows update or that get installed automatically by Windows).

well I'm thinking it's a software problem too. I'm just not sure from were. my card has MORE then enough power going to it sense it's been plugged into the power supply sense I built the darn thing. I had an older version of the drivers when this started, 13.9 of AMD Catalyst Control center. I upgraded to 13.12 and it didn't resolve it. I tried under clocking over clocking. na-da, I can play Rift and Final Fantasy at ultra high graphics with no problem. all my cables are connected firmly. I've tried all of the suggestions from that thread and nothing has worked. I have no idea why it's only Guild Wars 2 that's giving me this trouble.

Corsair is a good brand of PSU and you have plenty of wattage.  I know nothing of AMD brand GFX, sorry, I have no other suggestions other than remove all OC's, SweetFX-ish enhancements, revert to older drivers, etc.

As example: some older nVidia cards had problems with the past few drivers and the Mozilla browsers (Chrome, Firefox and actually IE8+), which resulted in a very similar driver crash @ the kernel level and nVidia was trying to find a fix and think they got it fixed it w/this last release.

So, I dunno.  Its not always best to run the latest drivers for video cards, despite what you read and hear, in case of the nVidia issue, we had to revert to drivers almost 8 months old just to maintain stability when browsing.  >_>

Have you recently plugged anything into any outlet in your house on the same circuit as your computer that draws a lot of power ?  Or possibly have too many things plugged into that circuit that might be robbing the power your PSU needs.  I had this happen to me once.  The way you can check is turn off the breaker in your home that your computer is on, and see what else turns off.  If you have too big of a load on the circuit, you may not be getting enough power.  Another thing to check is make sure the Nvidia settings are default on the Nvidia control panel graphics settings.  There could be something enabled there that doesn't play nice with Gw2
