Mad Max, Fury Road.

Just saw the trailer for the new Mad Max movie, Fury Road. I have to admit, I've really got my hopes up for this.  I wasn't too much of a fan of Thunder Dome, but here's hoping it's as bad ass, as The Road Warrior.  The Road Warrior has to be one of my most favorite Sci-Fi movies of all time. At the very least in the top ten of my list.  Here's hoping Fury road comes close to it.

It really reminds me of what made the second movie so good.  I don't think they will ever be able to make one similar to the original without rebooting the whole series but if they can make a good post-apocalyptic movie based on The Road Warrior I'll be happy.  There hasn't been enough post-apocalyptic movies, lets hope they do some justice to the genre.

It appears to have the right ingredients for me - that is interesting characters - at least from the brief characterizations presented... as long as it isn't full of gratuitous nudity and sex - it would be a great film for my grandsons and me next summer - action, chases, crashes... and it isn't that they (who will be 15 by then) won't like the nudity and sex, but it embarrasses granny to watch it with them sitting next to me.  :)

I usually like post apocalyptic movies and TV shows - depicting how a civilization without civilization reverts to the primal state since the primal being is in all of us.  It is only order which keeps it restrained and that doesn't always work out  :(

Thanks for the link....

That's exactly why I like settings like this too.  It doesn't generally matter what the cause of the apocalypse was (zombies/plague/nukes etc) all of these kinds of settings are about the breakdown of society, frayed sanity, descent into chaos that ensues when humans are forced to compete for necessary resources and the trials and tribulations of those that try to maintain some form of virtuous social order without losing themselves to chaos.

I'm very excited about this as well.  Here's hoping it's rated R.  Not for nothing, but Mad Max is adult fantasy.   Let's hope it stays that way and doesn't get cheapened for more people in the theater seats.

Humans are (and always have been) social creatures. We need other humans to survive (and I don't just mean breeding to continue the species) most post-apocalyptic fiction relies too much on Hobbes and doesn't take into account the human need for social interaction. Society wouldn't dissolve into nothingness, it'd change to meet the current needs of humanity. As much as I hate to give Revolution any credit for doing anything right, the idea that smaller states would form where our current mega-states stand (states as in nation states, not what most Americans think if as states). I've always thought the level of "apocalypsiness" in the Mad Max films was a little extreme, I'm more on the Fallout level "apocalypsiness" as believable. But hey, it should be a fun ride anyway. =)

I'd love to see some movie adaptations of S. M. Stirling's Emberverse series. The relatively recent NBC TV series, Revolution, had very similar plotlines, but was cancelled after just 2 seasons.
