Iúil 2015
(July)

A Solemn Welcome

It is with very heartfelt pause that I find myself writing this month's Ceannard Notes. This past month we lost another long time Gaiscioch member and former Elder, Joanne Ekker many of you knew as Jexia. You likely remember her "Coffee Coffee Coffee" and Crifting runs in RIFT. In her final days she played ArcheAge with a few of you while she was fighting stage 4 throat cancer over the past 2 years.

Jexia was a loving woman that was hard not to fall in love with just by being in the room with her. She was the sweetest lady I've met and radiated light and kindness. She was the optimal example of what a Gaiscioch elder should be and strive to be. While we knew for some time that this was the most likely scenario, the reality of the situation never really hits you until it happens. When I first learned of her situation I just could not imagine Gaiscioch without her. She was one of those bright lights within the family. While I know she is gone it still feels like she’s here. I see her echo in so many of you and see how her kindness and compassion was contagious. So many of us are better people because she was in our lives. I want to take a moment to stop and remember her for the magnificent woman she was.

Then this Friday I learned that Steve Sarko who many of you know as Zudrot or Frugster.3265 passed away on Thursday. He was a chronic attendee at a lot of our events and even lead his son to join the family. Steve was a really kind man who spent a lot of his time helping others within the family. He played RIFT, GW2, and even some ESO over his almost 3 years with the family.

When I created Gaiscioch, I never imagined I would encounter situations like this. This is something that I doubt many Guild Leaders think about when they're creating their guild.  Mortality and the Human Connection we all share. How do we endure the loss of a family member? How do we go on and remember them for the happy memories we shared? First Roger, now Joanne and Steve and I know this certainly won't be the last time we must endure. The whole situation makes me appreciate the time I have with all of you and shows me just how each and every moment we share is precious.

Paying Tribute to Our Fallen Heros

I want to create a way that we can share stories and memories of people as well as post our parting words for a member.  I am creating a Fallen Heroes page on our site which will be where we can chronicle those who have left us too soon and are remembered forever. Additionally depending on how things work in Guild Wars 2 we will create a hall of heroes that will erect monuments to each of our fallen members. In a way that we can pay our respects and pay tribute to their memory. If this is possible, it will be the first and foremost thing we work on. From there all the extras can come to pass but this I feel is of the utmost importance and acts as a beacon for where Gaiscioch stands. People first and foremost.

Today it is two, who knows what the future holds. I want to build a lasting monument to their lives and memories. I hate the thought of losing any of you, however the reality of the situation is ever present. Our time together is limited and I hope to make the most of it with each and every one of you. You all are so special to me and the thought of any of you not being there one day saddens me. Lets remember those who we hold dear and keep them in our thoughts. For true immortality comes from remembrance.

July 2015 Gaiscioch Event Leaders Meeting

Sorry for the past few months of leader meetings. Life has been a bit chaotic with my daughter being here and traveling. I'm hoping we can get back on schedule this month and hold our monthly meeting on July 27th at 5PM Pacific. If you are interested in helping us plan our monthly scheduled event lineup please plan on being there if at all possible. I want to start planning some bigger events this fall and want to start brainstorming some ideas.

Gaiscioch Family Promotions:

I wanted to take a moment to say congratulations to a few members this month for accepting their next credo and stepping into a new role in our family.

War Council (Ard Tiarna)

The War Council is comprised of members who have stepped up to lead events and activities for the family. They have proven themselves on the battlefield and have collected 25 signatures of approval from their followers. They have accepted the Mark of Servitude credo and understand that Leadership is not a position of power, it is a position of service. They have committed themselves to hosting fun and friendly events for the community at large.

» LeslieoftheStars » Tigallo

Officers (Seaimpín)

The Gaiscioch Family officers act as a front line for questions and answers. These members have accepted the Mark of the Protector credo and have vowed to assist new members with familiarization and report any suspicious or unbecoming behavior to the eldership team.

» ElizabethInAustin » Foviel » Ludwig » Magicke

Veteran Members (Saighdear)

Veteran Members have proven their devotion to the family by participating in events and contributing to the family's success. They have been active more than 90 days and have continued to be contributing members to the family.

Guild Wars 2 News

July 2015 Guild Wars 2 Chapter Update

As expected we saw our typical June reduction in activity, however activity is slightly less of a drop than it was last year at this time. This could be due to the influx of new members and or the release of expansion news bringing more people back to the game. Regardless we're doing much better than last year at this time and activity seems to be stable.

Over the next few months I will be changing my regular event time and depending how and when the expansion hits we might see the return of the Great Tyrian Adventure in some new form this fall. First things first, Recon phase. I want to put together a small team (looking at you Leslie, Oldgoat, Gma, Aoibhean, Soren, Smitty and anyone else who wants to help) to scout out the most challenging fights and activities for large numbers of people. We'll need to find something large scale we can all do in 2 hours.

Oh my! Guild Upgrade Maximus!

Ok if you were not paying attention over the past month to Guild Wars 2 news announcements there has been some major movement on the Guild System front. While I can't possibly place everything in these notes what I can do is link their news posts and give you some highlights.

  • Cross-Guild Communication Incoming! (ESO style) - Once HoT launches, you will be able to choose the order of your Guilds and communicate with each by using /g1 - /g5. The /g chat will automatically go to the one you are representing. What does this mean for you? This means whether you're in a skilled PvP venture with KONG, in a roleplay event, or repping another guild, you will be able to see Gaiscioch and SORC chat. This should make matters a lot easier when coordinating and getting the word out on invasions and events. Remember how I asked everyone to be part of at least 1 other guild? Well now that really pays off. Our ripple will be vast. If you see someone on GSCH chat calling for help, I ask that you relay it to your other guild chats. This will help us call to arms and aid our WvW teams in maintaining control.
  • Guild Housing - With HoT, guilds are able to sign up to lay siege to Mordreth in the new expansion and secure territory for their house. By clearing and preventing recapture a guild is able to create a guild zone. Complete with upgradable buildings and personalization.
  • Unlimited Guild Missions - Come HoT, we will no longer be required to use influence to build missions to use. This will greatly change the dynamic of our weekly events. However it also means that anytime you want to get some friends together and do them you can. They can be triggered at any moment and you can use the portal in the guild hall to go directly to them. Additionally some of the missions have been placed within their own instance to allow for easier grouping without overflows.
  • Guild Hall Decorations: These will be purchasable from a vendor and also found throughout the world in various places such as the top of jumping puzzles, on boss creatures, etc. I have plans to make a mad dash to gather as many of these as possible and set aside an area of our Guild Hall to create a living memorial for our fallen Gaiscioch. Aside from that I plan to let you guys get creative and will be allowing you to place items throughout the building but will likely assign a few people to make sure nothing terrible happens visually ;P

Elder Scrolls Online News

July 2015 Elder Scrolls Online Chapter Update

Just like in Guild Wars 2 our typical summertime lull has made itself apparent. We've seen a slight decrease in numbers and active players as we expected and made note of last issue. Typically we see between at 15% and 30% reduction in activity during the months of June - September so don't be alarmed if numbers dip a bit. I suspect as Fall approaches and the next patch grows near we'll be seeing a slight increase in numbers.

The Siege War Livestream Coming to Elder Scrolls Online in August

I'm looking to return to leading events by bringing the Siege War to ESO every other Thursday night come August if anyone cares to join me. They will likely be between 5pm and 8pm PT and be focused in Cyrodiil. I may rotate them around between the vet campaigns and non vet campaigns to try to gain some followers in the process. It likely will be a mix of PvE and PvP. Be sure to read the August Ceannard Notes for all the details.

This Thursday’s livestream event will make ESO a regular visit while mixing in other siege based games to begin building a library of video footage from siege based games. If we get a pretty good following I may bring it back into game full time. I would not mind having one of our regular commanders take point in the livestream from time to time so if you would like to be the star of the show let me know when you can do it and I'll run shotgun with you. It would be nice to be able to videotape the action rather than have the action be focused on what I'm doing.

Gaiscioch Magazine News

July 2015 Gaiscioch Magazine Update

July marks the end of our Content Creation phase and the start of our Editorial Phase. At this point all stories should be in and placed in the Ready to Proof folder. Our Editors will proof read each story and move it to the Proofed Once folder where our Senior Editors will make a final pass through the stories. Editorial Deadline is July 15th and everything needs to be ready for production no later than the 15th. This month we will hold our Magazine Team meeting on the 6th at 5PM Pacific.

Looking for Online Magazine Production Assistant

I'm looking for 1 or 2 people who would be willing to work with me closely to import our magazine articles from Google Drive to the Gaiscioch Magazine site. Your role would be ensuring formatting remains the same for the text and working directly with me to schedule the articles to go out over the 3 month period the next magazine is in production. This is mostly a copy and paste job and I can work with you on how to format things. Once the articles are imported and scheduled I will go back through them and place all art and video as necessary. A multi-screen workspace is highly recommended so that you can compare magazine to online version with ease. This is a volunteer position.

July 2015 Livestream Schedule

This month marks our 4th month of streaming. We've seen some pretty good gains in viewers and we've even managed to be hosted by a few game developers while we were streaming. Once we pass 1,000 subscribers I plan to start doing some giveaways on the air. But we've still got a ways to go before we get to that level. Closing Notes

Be Safe, Make Memories

As the summer progresses and fourth of July rolls around it's important to remember to be safe. I know explosions are fun but they also cause fires and missing fingers. Be safe out there.

Go out there and make some memorable memories and embrace the time we share with each other.  I can not express this enough. In times like these it becomes painfully obvious that we don't nearly have enough time to share with one another. Thank you all for being part of my family, this place wouldn't be the same without each and every one of you.

Good notes, but I made the mistake of trying to read them on my laptop.  What's the minimum resolution should I have to avoid having to scroll side to side?

I was able to work around my laptop's too-small-resolution by copying the parts I wanted to read to Notepad.

Thank you Ben for always doing such an amazing job in taking care of our family.

I've been in a few guilds where we would say we are family and do things like we were a family but none of what we did ever matches what you have built here.

I am probably not the only one here who can say that the way each of us treat each other is sometimes better then even how our own family members treat us.  I know that seems a sorry state to be in but at the same time it's awesome because it gives everyone a chance to have a family and be accepted and cared about.

Though this is only a game this guild is much and I mean MUCH bigger then that.

We walk through our lives knowing that no matter what happens that someone here will care.  Someone here has been through it.  Someone here has time to offer advice, hugs, time and even meet outside the game internet and proceed in creating even more solid relationships.  They even have lead to our family having baby Gaisciochs.

and you Ben..... YOU are the heart of this family!!!!

Thank you so much to each one of you.

Sure seems like Gaiscioch's are going to be pretty busy this Summer and Fall. :)  I can't wait to meet up with you all.
