Impressions PvE vs PvP servers - Note to Players, Both have lots of PvP

There's a lot of misunderstanding going about and I feel that perhaps I can shed some light on it. I've been playing a while now on both styles of servers. Both servers types have PvP. And no im not talking about Warfronts.

My PvE Server Experience
At level 15 I swam my way to the island with the tower on it which links Freemarch to Silverwood. I ventured over to the hostile territory to see just what PvP would be like on the PvE servers. Within 5 minutes of arriving in hostile territory I had my first fight with a couple Defiants. Attacking Defiant footholds and villages flag you PvP instantly. You can heal guardian shardstones and guardian invasion forces. Any of these actions flags you PvP. In the higher levels opening rifts in hostile territory flags you as well, taking hostile camps flags you PvP. I have spent most of my time on a PvE server flagged PvP not by triggering my PvP flag but by actions I've taken. I have found that on the PvE servers the fights almost always are close to my own level...

The Evolution of MMO

There's been a lot of debate over whether RIFT: Planes of Telara and Guild Wars 2 are "Next-Gen". Many have ruled them out completely claiming their carbon copy MMO's. We'll lets take a closer look at these two upcoming titles and see what's under the hood.PUSH vs PULL METHODOLOGYIn WoW, DAOC, EQ, WAR, Etc. The main system is built on the idea of a world which a player lives in. You play a side story in bigger picture. When you log off nothing changes, nobody misses you, the world is the same as when you were logged in.In GW2 & RIFT: they have innovated this concept and placed the Player first making the game the world that exists around the player. With these 2 games the MMO world gains cause and effect for the first time. IF players do not stop RIFTs they will spawn invasions that will take over every square inch of the map. Your efforts directly effect the world around you. In GW2 you see a wagon train getting ambushed, you can help ambush it or you can save them. Depending on what you do changes the overall picture...

oRvR Leadership Series: Commanding the Public Group (PuG) Part 3: Thinking in Multiple

The biggest misconception with Public Groups is that they lack organization and unity. Typically this is assumed and is largely due to the frequent lack of leadership in the battlefield. Taking your 24 man enterprise warband and turning it into a 100+ man warforce is no easy task. Without help you will suffer from some of the age old problems that so many PuG herders before you have fallen victim too.

1. Un-Unified Leadership
With each warband being led by someone you don't know and have no lasting relationship with you never know if they will have your back. Often times when you need them the most they wont be there for you. Your idea of where to attack first wont be theirs. Each warlord will think their way is the best way and nobody will get anything done because each of the warbands are doing their own thing.

2. Bad Communication
The warbands will be relatively clueless to what''s going on in each others warbands or even what their doing and when. Without a channel of communication coordinating your war effort will be like trying to change the weather...

oRvR Leadership Series: Commanding the Public Group (PuG) Part 2: Harnessing The Public Warforce

Stepping into the helm of a PuG or Public Warforce can be a bit daunting at times. You frequently will be repeating orders, moving members around the groups, finding yourself standing alone, and often times going blue in the face trying to get people to follow your lead. Most of these things can be reduced but it is important to remember your at the helm of a PuG not a premade.

PuG’s will only listen when its convenient, or when there is a clear objective that meets their goals. Half of your force will follow your lead the other half will do what they think is best for the group ignoring your commands and doing their own thing. You’ll find people queuing for scenarios, flying to zones you are not in, and getting lost all throughout the land. Where’s the appeal in this you ask?

The PuG craves leadership. They wait for someone to step into the leadership position and show them the way to maximize their gain and enjoyment levels. To become a successful leader you need to understand the various types of players you will come across:

The Buzzkill
This player is the worse kind...

oRvR Leadership Series: Commanding the Public Group (PuG) Part 1: Group Chemistry

Leading Public Groups reminds me a lot of playing and coaching football. In youth football every season brings new players, new faces, first time players, long time player, skillful, and the tragically skilless. In High School the players typically are the same group of guys every year with a couple new faces thrown in the mix. College it's the same crew every year with a couple of hot heads fresh out of high school to screw up the chemistry. Now of all the time I spent playing tackle football I would never compare any of it to leading a Public Group. That is what I'd refer to as a Premade.

Now once college ended for me and I started getting more serious about life, business, and my career I started playing flag football instead in hopes I'd preserve my knees long enough to toss the ball around with my kids. This is where I discovered the love for Pickup games. Each Saturday we'd go out to the field and have a bunch of guys and gals show up. Each week was a total random group of people...

oRvR Leadership Series: Weapons of WAR Part 3: Orchestrating the Battlefield

In the past two parts of my oRvR Leadership series we discussed Morale Control and Using Greed as a weapon. In part three we look at combining these essential skills into conducting the warfront. The warzone is your symphony and the battle will be your masterpiece. You can be the best and lead a flawless victory every time however there is a Golden rule I teach everyone that follows my lead. "Never beat an opponent so bad they don''t want to play you." There is nothing worse than having an empty battlefield.

By becoming a oRvR Leader and taking the reigns of the public warforce you start by building a reputation. Some people lead by barking orders and floundering around like child in a toy store. Some lead by calm and collected design. Regardless of how you lead. Your success is based off Memories. Much like a product brands itself to claim brand recognition. The second your name hits the chat log you need to have memories of victories past flood the minds of your troops. Obedient troops are direct result of your success on the battlefield and how many positive memories you have given them...

oRvR Leadership Series: Weapons of WAR Part 2: Greed, Destroyer of Societies

From the time were born to the time we die there is one thing that drives human kind... Acceptance. A child looks to his parents for acceptance in the form of love and nurturing. A student looks to his peers for acceptance. A professional looks to his industry for acceptance through through their success. Lastly the elderly look for acceptance into the afterlife. No matter the stage of life the one think all people seek is acceptance.

Now for some being accepted means having the best toys, the most money and the most fame. For some its being the outspoken one being brave enough to say whats on their mind regardless of the consequence. In traditional MMO's you will find the biggest form of acceptance that controls the majority of the populous is in the form of Experience, Renown, Influence, Loot, or Gold. A typical player in the game is chasing numbers. They often forget to look beyond the foreseeable future for the long term goal. This is your exploit. The jinx in your enemies armor...

oRvR Leadership Series: Weapons of WAR Part 1: Morale Control of Friend and Foe

Through my journeys as a oRvR Warlord I have learned a lot from the battles at hand. Out of all the weapons I've wielded there is only 1 that determines the outcome of a battle. Morale. With every victory the morale will rise. With every defeat the morale will sink. In my time I have found that every loss will cost you 20% of your warforce. Each victory will bring 10% to you. Giving your troops victories essential to maintaining a controllable force.

When you find yourself against a foe too great to overcome with your numbers at hand the appropriate response is to move faster than they move. Become the mouse who leads the cat to his demise. You then lead your opponent by the reigns forcing them to counter each of your actions. Instead of throwing yourself at their feet and waiting for your demise try attacking objectives in opposite sides of a region or even in another territory. Stretch their forces out. Each time you capture an objective their forces will start arguing among themselves...

    The Gaiscioch Trinity Formation
The Gaiscioch Trinity was brought to life shortly after the launch of Warhammer Online as a means to organize the chaotic public group (PuG) warfare and move across the field in an organized fashion as one unified force rather than a mindless zerg. The base principle of the Trinity is to turn PuG into Premade by lacing each warband with Alliance / Extended Alliance members on Ventrilo thus creating enough green dots on the minimap to lead the rest of the warband in the right direction...
