Delianath, The Young Blade

By: Lothien

Delianath didn't always dream of being a warrior. When he was very young he enjoyed long walks at the peaceful forests of Ellyrion where he was born and dreamed of being a poet to sing the beauty that surrounded him. Then the war came, and he was urged by his grandfather -- a swordmaster himself -- to take up arms to defend his lands and people.
Delianath cried for a whole night at the idea of breaking his grandfather's good heart by refusing to give his life to path of the warriors. But when the sun rose from the east he walked, red tired eyes cast on the horizon, to the house of the his grandfather and begged to start his apprenticeship.

When he first saw Eirean at the training camps, and remembered of the little beautiful girl she used to be when they first met, he understood that war was changing everyone, and maybe that was the way the Gods wished it to be. Then, out of silent love for his grandfather and for his unconfessed childhood love Eirean, he gave himself completely to the path of the warrior.

Since his first battle Delianath used to throw himself fearlesly into the first ranks, slashing the enemy left and right and trying to open a crack on the enemy formations. He fears not for his life, as he knows he is merely a part of something much bigger. He is a spark of the will of Asuryan.

He promised himself that if he lives after this war is over, he will confess his love for Eirean. Delianath knows something of war and death, and knew peace, beauty and poetry, but understands very little of the hearts of women. But this is not of great importance now, for the war rages and his only true friends are his blade and pavise.
